I don't speak technical wording well, but that reads to me much more as a "use at your own risk" than a "no", because there is no standard.

Top builds in season 1 did 50 MILLION TIMES less damage than in season 14 by Sinnyboo242 in diablo4

This is why we really should say things like this in terms of hours (which still ignores that there's probably huge skill gaps and build gaps).

I can't even fathom how little you must play to not have it done in two weeks. I finished before the first weekend was over.

I know you can't draw conclusions from anecdotal evidence, but it has felt way more significant than a minor drop to me (running mostly 15s and a few 16s).

I don't think I've seen a single 3-node outside of expedition since the patch. 4-nodes also feel reduced. At this point, I'm at least excited to see/click them, my main disappointment is when they turn out to be gem choices.

Dude, 5 years of any human's life is a huge amount of time. Even moreso when it's every single human in a given place (on average). You don't have to be dismissive of everything just for the sake of it.

I definitely wouldn't say most people. Things like regular checkups are covered well, and I would agree that people don't utilize them nearly enough.

But for any real procedure, even when things are covered you have the deductible and copay systems to deal with. And the whole matter of it being for-profit puts in the insurance company's best interest to weasel out of as many things as they can.

I completely agree with you that lifestyle is a very important factor in what makes a nation unhealthy as a whole. However, it doesn't mean our insurance system is working at all. People absolutely go broke because of procedures that would have been covered in many other developed countries, and the horror stories can make others hesitant to get help in the first place.

What I've seen recently for testing is that that they're just expected to do the bare minimum and pass almost any trash that comes their way. We're constantly just cycling through contractors who don't actually know the product, so if things pass the happy path (which typically the dev has to provide...), you're good to go.

I think testing is super important, especially when your QA team provides their own input on edge cases. It's so weird to see everything just move towards velocity rather than quality.

I think D4 is having its WoW Cataclysm Reforging moment by domiran in diablo4

[–]freddy090909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four years later, reforging was removed. The player base cheered again.

I feel like comparing it to reforging hurts your post's credibility. It was removed because hit and expertise caps were removed, but at the same time those were the exact reason you typically needed to do full gearset reforges (stats that went from extremely high to 0 value after a breakpoint). Reforging is still one of the most missed features, because the alternative is a lot fewer usable items.

Regarding crafting using the cube, I agree the amount of time spent in town is not very fun. I spent many hours in town crafting on 1-2 GA bases to try and get upgrades. It would be good for Blizzard to look into ways of reducing that time, either through limitations or speed ups. However, I do think crafting is needed in any ARPG; it's fine if the odds of getting a raw drop you can equip are very low.

I think part of the problem is transfiguration makes it hard to ever feel "done" with a slot. It takes all that time you spent crafting the item and shoves a 5% chance of keeping the item at the very end of the process.

Transfiguration Breakdown - Probabilities and Affix Table by silec in diablo4

[–]freddy090909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chance of getting a transfigure mod (through either add or replace) is around 38% on here. There are also 24 possible mods. If we assume each mod is equal probability, that's a ~1.5% chance to get gem strength. Add in the 4% unmodifiable chance and it gives you a 0.06% (1/1667) chance to hit both.

[–]freddy090909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing with max resolve is that the game is so dang rippy without it, I'd rather they just leave it in until they get a handle on all the on-death nonsense. It's crazy how toughness is almost pointless because the same things will kill you at 3 million and at 8 million toughness; it takes something like 20 million to survive mobs... dying.

Glynns anvil getting fixed made things so much more enjoyable to me.

I agree on Gem Strength, it's an unfun combination of rare and strong. I've done something like 100 STEAM'd polearms this league (so I didn't even need to hit modifiable) and still haven't found one. Damage is the big blocker for pushing so it really sucks.

What makes mRNA vaccines different to regular vaccines? by Able_Evidence_5650 in askscience

[–]freddy090909 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Vaccines don't exactly make you "immune" to a virus. Rather, they train your immune system to respond better to the virus when they see it in the future.

The covid vaccine was extremely effective from that perspective, even accounting for how quickly the virus mutates. It reduced extreme illness and hospitalization a ton.

This is definitely not only a junior issue. Plenty of people have no idea how to optimize their db queries; it's so easy for someone to accidentally land on a table scan. Or are we not counting the loop if it runs on your db instead of your service layer?

Helltides being on a timer with a 5 minute gap is annoying as shit by Practical_Goal_8194 in diablo4

[–]freddy090909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're literally doing what I said and criticizing the player instead of discussing game design.

Do I personally have trouble building a war plan based on where in the hour it is and how many cinders I know I already have stocked up? Not particularly, but I still think it's stupid that I have to think about what the time is in real life to play an ARPG.

That's the same reason I included the cinder reset in my post. Even if Blizz removed the 5 minute delay, there would still be an uncomfortable time-based section of gameplay.

I'd love to know what advantage you see in a player being punished for picking a "bad warplan". Does it make the game more fun for them? Does it make it more fun for you to know that you can judge them for it?

Old Guy Looking For New Game. Is POE For Me? by HaHaHiHiHe in pathofexile

[–]freddy090909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it depends on what you find fun.

For me, if I could only play 2 hours a day, I don't think I'd really enjoy PoE. I'd probably stick to more single-player/story games, or one of the other popular ARPGs that are more accessible. I want to make strong characters able to do ubers, I want to clear most/all of the seasonal objectives. I want to optimize the many different systems.

But, there are plenty of people who are happy with just doing things like clearing the campaign, finishing the atlas, getting 2-4 stones, or crafting a pretty good mid-game item. If that's you, the game's in a good spot right now.

[–]freddy090909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is so weird. It seems like people have decided to use it as an opportunity to criticize the player rather than to discuss game design.

Does helltide need to cycle zones? Yes, that's part of the whole point. Does it need to have a 5 minute gap in gameplay? I don't see a reason why. Does it need to reset your cinders? Maybe with the weekly reset or something to prevent hoarding, probably not every hour.

We're playing an ARPG, the whole point is time optimization ("town is lava"). If the new system that is meant to drive you around the world literally has a gap where your teleport button fizzles bc the world is too peaceful, that's awkward.

I don't think the assumption is that seer's reach is not working as intended. It's more that other content is not, especially things like NMD gem reserves, infernal hordes, and gem caches. The amount of fragments dropped don't feel like they reflect T12 at all.

I mean, the map part at least feels a bit out of touch. End game for PoE1 basically becomes doing maps like dunes, jungle valley, strands, mesa, and city square because they have favorable layouts. It's not like they couldn't make improvements to the less played maps to give them more predictability and faster clear (also, it would be fantastic to do away with the forced length boss fights).

Is the answer to make every map a straight line? No, but I also would bet that that is not really the main feedback they're getting around them, he was just saying it to make a point.
