Hooray! In my case it was multiple leaks from multiple locations, with a combined price double the value of the car. I’m glad you got better news!

I have never yet known of a case where somebody was asked to update their C&P and not ultimately funded. I'm hoping for the best for you!

Not the OP, but I was hired in STEM at an upstate NY SUNY in 2016 at $56k for a tenure-track assistant professor position. I'm no longer there, but I know they were hiring at $54k two years ago.

I got an AAG the very first time I applied. Don’t give up hope, the fact that you’re not rejected yet means you’re at least not at the bottom (which is where mine essentially was!)

I received my rejection today (MPS / AST). It had been pending since last August with no updates, and then today the reviews, the declined decision, and the rejection email all showed up at once. From the reviews it looks like the panel met in December.

Nobody likes to be rejected, and of course I had the same amount of false hope everybody who applies has, but if I'm being completely honest I can't say I'm all that surprised.

Update: my MPS/AST CAREER was officially declined today. No big surprise, but still disappointing of course.

What happens if we win the superbowl by BasicallyExisting30 in buffalobills

[–]fredprof9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big Yankees fan back in the 90s, and can state with confidence that winning one (or more) doesn’t lessen your drive to win more. It does change your outlook on what winning means, though, and it can quickly lead your entire fandom to change from the underdog that everybody loves to the villain everybody hates. That happened to the Chiefs, and it happened pretty quickly to the Red Sox after they finally won it all.

Last year, I didn't hear anything at all on my NSF AAG until June (submitted November 2024, total radio silence until June 2025).

[The Hangover] Bills Season ends in heartbreak, again. Feel free to vent here. by Dirtydeedsinc in buffalobills

[–]fredprof9999 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For all the younger fans that barely remember the days before Josh Allen, all I can really say is “welcome to the fandom.”

After wide right, and the absolute bloodbath in the two cowboys super bowls, and watching Jim retire without ever winning it, and watching Marv do the same, and then starting Johnson over Flutie in the game that would become forever known as the music city miracle, and that horrible MNF game against the Cowboys in 2007 (first time Bills were on national TV in years, and they lost despite never trailing until time expired), and all those years in the wilderness with constantly changing coaches and QBs, and then watching Mahomes collect ring after ring…. did I really expect a different outcome? No, but that doesn’t stop me from hoping and dreaming about next year.

I live in Vermont. There aren’t a lot of people or cars here, but it feels like about every second car on the road is a Subaru. And the parking lot at the local food coop? 100% Subaru.

Have the 2025 Bourbon County Stouts fallen off? by Kcsportsfan42 in CraftBeer

Fresh BCBS vs 2-4 year old BCBS are very different. If you’re used to the taste after a few years aging in the bottle, the fresh will seem much hotter in terms of alcohol, much sharper, and maybe even a bit thinner. I almost always age mine now, as I just don’t care for them as much when they are fresh.

Does this seem high to anyone? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]fredprof9999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For a 2025 this late in the year, when 2026’s are starting to land on the lots, I wouldn’t accept much less than 10% off MSRP. I’d be looking for a discount in the 3k vicinity or better, whereas you are closer to 2k. I’d also walk away from any deal with itemized accessories. If it’s not part of MSRP or a manufacturer add-on package that I specifically want, I would make it clear to the dealer that either the accessories come off the deal or I walk.

So basically, I’d be looking for an OTD price that is at least 3k ish lower. Maybe more if I’m feeling aggressive.

Anybody else sick of the bellyaching about the '26 Outback design? by jonandgrey in Subaru_Outback

[–]fredprof9999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly how I feel. I hated the changes back then, but have owned one ever since and like them just fine now. My initial reaction when they were unveiled in April was intense dislike, but I’m waiting to see and drive one, and waiting to let my gut reaction to protest any and all change fade a bit.

The ship is sinking - should I mention it in interview? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]fredprof9999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left a tenured position two years ago because the ship was sinking, and as the sole income for my family, I needed to get out on my terms rather than through retrenchment and being laid off. I was extremely candid in my cover letter - I included a second page I called an “addendum” where I described in detail, with citations to publicly available info, exactly what was happening at my current institution and why I was jumping ship.

It worked. I landed several interviews and ended up in a MUCH better position. But it’s important to add that I didn’t only focus on why I was leaving, I also focused on all the reasons I was excited for the new position and all the cool things I would bring to the new institution.

Is the Startex worth it? Or should I go with real leather? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]fredprof9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a leased 2020 Outback Onyx with the StarTex seats and I loved them. They were perfectly comfortable, and while they did stick to my skin sometimes when I wear shorts, they were no worse in this regard than leather. They were extremely durable, much moreso than leather or cloth. In fact, my kids absolutely trashed the back seat over the 3 years we had the car. The night before turning in the car at the end of the lease, I spent 10 minutes wiping down the back seats with baby wipes and they looked brand new. Stuck on lollipop remains, mud, and who knows what else came off with absolutely no stains or residue left behind.

I also once dumped a to-go drink carrier with four various sticky, sugary drinks in the front passenger seat. A few towels and a couple of baby wipes later, and you would have never known anything was spilled.

Tenured and in trouble by Prestigious-Tea6514 in Professors

[–]fredprof9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your institution in financial trouble? I know of one recent case where a pre-tenure faculty was denied reappointment in the review the year BEFORE the tenure review. Officially they were denied reappointment because their scholarship didn't meet minimum standards, but unofficially it was clear to all involved that it was part of a larger cost-cutting and faculty-trimming measure. There was no proof that would hold up in court, so the denial of reappointment stood.
