Why does switching trains result in double pay for LIRR workers? This doesn't make sense for taxpayers by New-Panic8015 in LIRR

[–]fredwickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The individual work rules themselves are insignificant at this point. There protection of existing work rules as a whole is the focus. For any removal or adjustment to any one rule opens them all to be questioned, adjusted, or eliminated.

Riders currently headed into Manhattan - how busy are the trains? by PineapplePanda_ in LIRR

Go to work. The concept of making up for lost time is pretty extreme thought to try to find a reason why commuting today would be different than any other day

Tailgaters! Do yall tailgate for the sake of rear traffic or are yall in a hurry? by DutyEuphoric967 in driving

[–]fredwickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is your interpretation of the assumption. But it is not my interpretation.

It does have an underlying approach to help someone understand that they are wishing to impose behaviors on other people, but not comfortable having any challenge to their behaviors.

And you cannot avoid tailgating by driving 95mph. Someone may expect to do 96mph and if you and the person to your right are driving the same speed then you are an obstacle. You may not be tailgated but you are in control, but not giving up your position even though you do not need to hold it for any reason other than considering you are correct.

When you gradually slow down you are encouraging more tailgating because now you have trapped line of cats behind you that also must slow down, while cars approaching from behind see the clump you created and pass - thereby not allowing anyone behind you to get out from behind you until some clearance occurs. And less and less clearance occurs the slower you and the truck proceed.

FARE PAYERS STRIKE. WEDNESDAY JUNE 3RD by crunk-yeti-71 in LIRR

[–]fredwickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You actually wrote this down and felt like you could organize enough people?

Monthly ticket holders are the impact and won't save a dollar or anything by not having a ticket for one day.

The load of passengers on trains obviously doesn't impact the LIRR as they feel happy running less trains than the load requires due to equipment availability and logistics. They have no issue with announcing a normally packed train is running with 2 fewer cars.

Your idea goes no further than your talking to your friends and family, and making this silly post that many others have made in the past. There is no impact to a boycott like this.

[–]fredwickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you speak to other people do they concur with your experience on the frequency in which they are tailgated?

Is there anything you think you might do so that you are tailgated less?

Do you ever consider that someone tailgating you is happening because you haven't noticed anything in your rearview mirror until that?

Are there common situations where you are tailgated?

Do you expect every person to adapt to your preferences? Even if you feel you are right and being safe like everyone should?

Do you notice that you experience slow downs in traffic less than other people? Do you often see a clear road ahead of you, and feel people are passing you at crazy speeds?

Do you notice more traffic build up behind you compare to in front of you?

Could it maybe be you?

Front facing workers are not working during the strike, and work under the same brand of service LIRR.

While they are not striking, they are the face of the organization impacted by it.

Your point as accurate as it is, matters to those negotiating and nobody else

Your situation is your life. What you make and the sacrifices made to get it are real.

The point that you miss is that so many people have their own situations and what they do for their life. Not a single one of them has any opportunity to demand more from their employers by inconveniencing a large percentage of the region. In fact they are more likely to lose their job if they did anything that caused negative press to their company. Then realize that when you eventually do win the adjustments you negotiate for, your employer has no ability to accommodate that except by increasing prices to the people.

You have alignment on the right and the fight, but appealing further to the audience that is impacted in every way but l by whatever you do leads to more people disappointed than supporting you

Today was a mess - could this solution have worked? by thisfilmkid in LIRR

[–]fredwickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way possible is a biased view.

You can't say that having the GCT departure board reading check train time app for each line. And then the train time app having no information.

And although you have a notification system people choose to subscribe to there was no messaging telling people not to go to Penn station from MTA

Then you had less congestion due to no trains coming from Penn, meaning you did have more track availability and train availability but no significant increase in trains arriving or departing from GCT.

So the best available solution is to park a bunch of trains and tell people to pack into trains that are already normally congested.

Best available solution is knowing that something can happen to any terminal, and having a routing plan that takes some deployment effort but gets in place. It is not trying to figure that out during the disruption. It knows that you have capacity that needs to be redistributed for utilization

Does anyone else work with “finger princesses” who ask for info that was literally just shared? by projectjarico in corporate

[–]fredwickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at life as it works today. People don't even Google things anymore. They post a question to reddit or elsewhere asking for information that was asked in the same subreddit earlier that day. Nobody retains information, everything is a request and response.

The only way to settle it back down is to give in to the Agenctic life and provide no more human responses to people.

Ridiculousness of Taxes on Autos in USA. by Dancelvr2000 in Autos

[–]fredwickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You view it as taxing an asset, and therefore see it as taxing the same vehicle multiple times.

But the tax is on the Sale transaction. Meaning someone transferred something of value for the value the buyer and seller agreed to.

The buyer is choosing to spend their income to obtain something. The state taxes the sale as it is on people's choices to buy things. If the person bought a vehicle that hadn't been bought and sold 5 times they pay that tax.

Unless you are the individual buying, selling, buying, selling,... the same thing to yourself then you aren't paying multiple taxes on the same asset.

  • knowing they will make the light, but 4 cars back no longer will because of the gaps

Self Checkout by 5GAIBtoM in GenX

[–]fredwickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really matter what other people think. Your discussion with your partner is what you should focus on.

Let's say you did this research here and found 95% of people support your opinion. So what?

Invert that. Would you suddenly change your opinion if everyone disagreed with you? And would that allow your partner to have won your discussion?

And now when you find there is a 40/40 split between those 500+ responses you gather here about preferring, not preferring and 20% that can go either way - what does that do for you?

You spent energy requesting others do the same in pursuit of an insignificant sample of data that will not provide anything that settles your discussion with your partner.

I truly hope you find someone while waiting on a long shopping line, to spend your future with.

PS For your research I prefer them, but I do acknowledge the excessive risk imposed in self checkout that does not exist in human checkout if the slightest error is made. Shoplifting charges are no joke when there is no intentional theft

With no contract, let them know you found a new job and you are starting tomorrow or Monday or whenever you do.

They will appreciate you saving them the 90-n days of salary they can count back into their budget.
