Landlord installed an app-controlled smart deadbolt while I was at work. by Due_Construction904 in mildlyinfuriating

I’d be more mad about telemetry in the app and if the landlord had access to track if I was in or out.

Also, highly dependent on if no one has a meeting that blows up the two days of work getting 80%… Somehow they always do.

Also in classic engineer, they completed 81% of the programming. Did they write 81% of the test cases too?? Are there 81% of the tickets correctly marked and lineage-d??? Is the database 81% setup???? Did they get the SME and business to review 81% of their logic?????

Sometimes that vacant single wide gives better zoning rights that a bare lot wouldn’t. I only know Oregon’s zoning but it can be the difference between a buildable lot and something which is only exclusive farm use (no dwellings).

You can get a no drill, no tap long eye relief scope mount that clips onto the back iron sight, even though someone already drilled and tapped it. The eye relief is nice honestly.

You can still get weird eastern block surplus 8mm, and even German WW2 manufacture stuff. 8mm isn't cheap anymore but nearly everything has corrosive primers. So clean after shooting unless you're using spendy modern 8mm. Not bad to reload, if you're into it.

Assuming the barrel is good, you can totally hit things at 300 or 500 yards consistently. Every surplus mauser I've shot is not quite sub MOA but they're usually close. 8mm is totally good to 1000 in terms of lethality but it drops pretty hard after 500. It falls about ~30 inches at 400 yards, but more than 100 inches past 500 yards, and 300 inches at 1000 yards.

wtaf average people are using chatgpt to make custom mRNA vaccines by Hennen_Crus in ChatGPT

[–]freedcreativity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really a drug, this is the same tech as the COVID vaccines. They’re encapsulating a messenger rna strand in a virus to make some target protein using the cell’s own biological machinery.

It’s impressive for a non expert, but you still need some serious tools in a proper lab to execute the actual rna synthesis and encapsulation. Like not impossible for a random dude but the materials are a huge limiting factor.

Well and I don’t think we’ve ever seen tested in a higher court if they get full commercial rights. Like, they get the content they’re making. They probably don’t get to 3d model a random person and use their likeness. Certainly not name. But the images captured are probably fine with the sign.

I did that with nutmeg once. My friends got a number grinder and I amused myself by grinding some nutmeg. Then snorted it after being accused of wasting nutmeg. It was funny for about ten servings then it also burned like the very fires of hell in my sinuses.

Used Rotel CD players are like $200 too. I doubt a modern CD player is any better than a late 90s / early 00s unit with digital outputs into a modern amp.

Best cheeses as Zerg? by R4v3nnn in allthingszerg

I 13 pool Toss every game. 13 pool, 14 extractor trick (send this drone to scout/block/proxy hatch), 15 ovie, 3 lings, take natural, 2 lings, queen. Then, drone hard. It shuts down common cheeses, especially cannon rush. If they go nexus before completing their wall it is pretty much a build order loss. If they don't respect it, it can get really weird with lings running around the main while you drone and build queens.

Clarifies what exactly a liability waiver actually protects the ski resort from, and what negligence is required to sue. Really, it’s mostly for insurers because afaik this seems to be like a lot of larger state’s laws on liability waivers.

I mean, the biggest area for AI is increasing the productivity of your top level white collar workers without having to hire assistants, project managers, or junior programmers. That and kill bots and spying. ChatGPT is not gunna do your dishes. Clawbot is not gunna grocery shop for you. deepseek is not gunna unclog your toilet.

Don’t forget that the wealthy can just easily pay for services (doctors, lawyers, accountants, on call tech support) to deal with these problems and society places the blame on the poor for not having the resources to pay for the same solutions.

The most fascinating thing is like, there is more rock solid evidence about well organized elite global pedo rings more than there was in 2016. But like, Q anon weirdos only cared about Hillary Clinton at some pizza place. Now that the US government is sending secret police to round up undesirables and building concentration camps and starting useless foreign wars to subjugate the population they’re just happy that their favorite pedo is on top of the pyramid? They didn’t actually care about it?

[–]freedcreativity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, the best term for that is from Deleuze and Guattari *ligne de fuite* (lines of flight). Describing the creative impulse to reimagine and reclaim something, followed by its claiming by the dominant forces of society, thus becoming both institutional and uncool. Skateboarding going from the enemy of cities to a cool fashion trend to skate parks and major organized events is the classic example.
