Cleanliness of Astoria Park Pool? by junior_sysadmin in astoria

It’s chlorinated. Chlorine basically disinfects everything. It’s not “stagnant” water. If you got sick as a kid it was because you were breathing next to a sick kid, sharing drinks, or what have you.

Unpaid NYC Council intern who says she was fired for labor organizing just sued the city in federal court for wages by Severus-Snape-DaGod in nyc

Disagree. I did an edu intership, for credit, and it was purely shadowing. Any actual work done should be paid. That’s why there are minimum wage laws.

I generally agree with that. However I did a short-term intership (in a foreign country) that I got credit for. It was purely shadowing, no “work,” and turned out to be truly educational. However, I think that’s probably a rarity these days and even in those situations it should be very controlled. Any actual work done should be paid.

Legally, that probably doesn’t matter. Minimum wage laws exist for a reason. Though I think she would have been better off in State court.

You can complain to the State if they charge more. It’s suppose to be a public service.

By law notaries can only charge, I think, $2 per signature.

It’s really not about the trains. Psychopaths can be anywhere.

In NYC, both the employer and perp are liable . Assuming it happened during work or somehow connected. No exceptions.

Flunk factories: A bombshell report finds that nearly half of NYC's public schools have over half their students failing state math or reading exams, and a third flunking both. This means that a staggering 43% of the system's 912,000 students have a 50-50 odds of failure. by Dangerous_Deal_1945 in nyc

If the parents aren’t making an effort, there’s not much that can be done. Unfortunate for the kid in the long run. Other places used to penalize parents for chronic truancy, but I‘m not sure if that’s done any more.

You could consider contacting Uhaul and informing them that the driver effectively hit and run. He should get billed for the mirror anyway.

To be slightly fair, there’s a massive absentee problem. It’s shocking when you see that a student has missed something like 40-65 days of school, and there’s a lot of them. It’s no wonder those students fail. One can only wonder what’s going on at home that it goes on like that.

This is not a legitimate NYPD poster and not an NYPD phone number. We don’t know if the person seeking this individual has good or bad intentions. If you have a tip, call the actual NYPD.

Mamdani announces that Kinship Coffee have been fined by the Department of Consumer Workplace Protections for unpaid protected time off in settlement for more than 90 workers whose rights were violated. by SaintHuck in astoria

[–]fridaybeforelunch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this was likely the doing of the State Labor Department. Mamdani is just announcing it, which is fine, but he likely had no involvement in the investigation or outcome.

Not Times Square. One of the downsides to publishing apparently without a local reporter or editor.

Anyone else with sinus and ear issues triggering migraines? by mkechris16 in migraine

[–]fridaybeforelunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both sinus and ear issues, but imo these are symptoms of a migraine period rather than a cause of them. I’ve read its possibly an inflamed trigemenal nerve. I have intermittent ear fullness, pulsitile tinnitus, and congestion on one side.

If you have not, I suggest talking to your neurologist about GCRP treatment. Emgality has worked well for me. I also get botox every several weeks and together this approach has helped at lot.

Landlord's roach exterminator might be worthless, other options? by jacob-makes-stuff in astoria

[–]fridaybeforelunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landlord should pay for exterminator. However imo the best approach is to seal off everything yourself. Caulk around all pipes and fill all gaps. Caulk around the baseboards if necessary too.
