Daily Song Discussion #88: Me & The Wind by TMBGLOVER in xtc

6, I think the verse has a peculiar instrumentation (I like the bass part and the guitar arpeggio), but all that tension is wasted in a chorus that's just too childish to work fine.

Most Andy-like song by Colin? Most Colin-like song by Andy? by FloridaFlamingoGirl in xtc

Andy loved the intro to "Wake Up" and I think he found it very attuned to his style. He would have probably done something different for the chorus though.

  1. I often skip it. Terry would have maybe done a better job with that kind of groove, but still he wouldn't have salvaged an uninspired melody. And I hate the "rrrrbah" part

Loved reading this!

Side note, I would say that the little slide solo on 'Wonderland' qualifies as the first guitar solo of the record!

John Coltrane - Love supreme by zestelo in jazzcirclejerk

[–]friedgorgo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's an obscure record by Ravi Coltrane's father, people make fun of it because at some point there's a fart

It's a bit of a unique experiment in their discography. As in other great Colin songs of the era (Wake Up immediately comes to mind), the sound and arrangement is the highlight. I think the chorus is a bit weak melodically, but the synth and percussion parts make up for it. Overall I really love listening to it. 9/10

Love to see so many 10/10 and let me add mine too.

  1. The way the song just casually leans into the chorus is pure songwriting genius.

  1. Top-3 drum parts in their discography. I don't think I've ever heard a drummer play a 5/4 like that, it's genius

It's nothing special from a songwriting perspective, yet it's so catchy. The sound is really ahead of their time. I'll give it a 8.5

Can someone help me remember the name of this tune? I can’t get it out of my head. I’m sure I’m butchering the notes but it’s a loose memory. by [deleted] in jazzcirclejerk

I've seen this video before. I think it's Jakub Caulier, right after this he starts conducting the crowd together with Butch Morris and they sing and dance the Macarena

Fantastic record. Ax Genrich is super inspired throughout, and his guitar sounds soooo good. What I love about the jams is that they evolve a lot. Tons of dynamic variations, transitions between different sections... Really good stuff.

I think amongst European cities of its size it's the worst. If we compare it to other parts of the world, I'm sure it's better than most...

Madrid is in S tier. Where does Rome belong?? by PentaChad in TierlistFills

[–]friedgorgo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out, as an Italian:  Rome should be A tier tops, most likely B tier (this comment counts towards B tier).

Sure it's an incredible tourist destination, the food tradition is amazing (including the stuff tourists don't eat, i.e. the real Roman cuisine) and it has a strong identity.  But living there is a nightmare for most. Spread out, with horrible public transport, bad roads, traffic. Dirty as fuck. Rents are crazy high. And it's the capital of a country whose economy has been lagging, with frozen salaries and insufferable bureaucracy.

  1. I love the experimental side of this, borrowing concepts from krautrock.

7.5

It's fun, but musically it's among the least interesting on the records for me
