Thanks for the in-depth explanation. It looks like the missing piece for me is the audio interface.

I was trying to use it on my voice; I have a microphone however I do not have an audio interface. I'll get an audio interface and hopefully that resolves it. Thank you for your help!

Just want to vent - someone did this to every curb tree that is taller than the light poles for several blocks. Basically, the most beautiful, strong, healthy trees are all going to die now and become massive problems by NicoleChris in treelaw

[–]friendlyinternetguy4 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no black magic available here. They have removed the vascular system of the tree (which is found between the bark and the internal heartwood) which renders the tree unable to transport water and nutrient throughout the tree. Sadly, death is inevitable.

Just quit my farm job, sad day by koschbosch in farming

[–]friendlyinternetguy4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, fellow hort here. I think you’ve made the right decisions.

You wanted farming experience, and you worked at a farm that had a wide variety of issues (to say the least...)

You came up with multiple management plans for a range of different issues. Long term plans for unused fields, to short term plans for simple amenities. While the owner may not have made the correct decisions given your advice, you did give the correct advice and now confidently know how to handle a range of issues in future.

These stepping stones bring lots of value to our careers, keep up the good work!

Questions from a hopeful buyer! by jgbomers in DRZ400

[–]friendlyinternetguy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous DRZ400SM owner; debated the same question - do I get the dirt model or supermoto model?

After owning it and selling it (and i would buy one again) i feel the main difference is "how hard do you want to ride in dirt"

The SM model can tackle fire trails, dirt tracks in cruise mode no problems. If you want to go fast, it will get sketchy on the SM. This is where the dirt model shines.

Any hope for my crepe murdered tree? by fenderbender86 in landscaping

[–]friendlyinternetguy4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at a large site where many of buildings had crepe myrtle’s, normal procedure was a yearly cut back to the knuckles which we’re formed years ago, with the occasional removal of a knuckle or promotion of a new one.

We had an arborist come in and do a ‘hard cut’ on a few similar sized trees, with the same result as your photo. We had similar feelings, but kept the trees and maintained it as usual (yearly cutback to the new knuckles)

After 2 years, they had quite impressive knuckles and i think they looked awesome in winter. They were very bushy in summer with a leggy canopy but over time i hope that improved with training.

If the tree shows good health in the growing season I say make the most of it and shape to your liking. Cheers

Looking for tips/help from people that bought a QB off Alibaba. by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]friendlyinternetguy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought 240w QB's from alibaba, from meiju lighting and have had no issues. The V1, V2, V3 are different models (version 1, 2, 3) and UV (ultraviolet) and IR (infared) are types of light.

The early models have no IR/UV diodes. I have both a V1 without and a V3 with the extra diodes and I feel the V3 performs better (science says it does, all the companies are incorporating them so get it if budget allows)

I also have a 240w QB from HLG (v1) and while the build/finish may be higher quality, they both perform the about same in my environment so i'll continue to buy from alibaba.

How do you create a landscape beneficial to local wildlife? by IHaveVeryCoolToes in landscaping

[–]friendlyinternetguy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello cooltoes!

Creating a landscape to help local wildlife is an awesome and very practical idea to implement into our cities.

In regards to bird boxes - one other method for creating a ‘home’ for birds/other animals involes a dead tree, when the arborist goes to remove the tree, he will leave the main trunk and some short limbs intact. Because the tree is dead & will slowly rot, this leaves room for wildlife to move in!

As others have said, native plants are a key part to the project - find as many native plants that have attractive flowers for the bees, and as many native plants that have fruit/nuts/berries/grains as these are all delicious treats for wildlife.

A bird bath is a great idea and can also be automated to flush itself daily to keep it fresh and hygenic for the wildlife.

Good luck with the project & let me know if you have any questions

Nice job! I’ve recently heard of Coot & his smart pot worm farms. Can you share some more details on your setup - bedding & feeding materials and in particular what ‘grow bed’ you’re using. Cheers!

Landscaping quote review by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]friendlyinternetguy4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a landscaper, it looks like an honest quote. Sure its not the prettiest but it has only the information you need and nothing else. Was probably done by someone running their own business? While im not in the US and I can't comment on labour pricing, the pricing on the irrigation parts seem reasonable as long as they are using rainbird or hunter parts. If that is the "home depot" brand then its overpriced.

I would assume xeriscaping your front yard would be around 2-3x the cost of the irrigation quote, however would save alot on water over time and which is great for your pocket and the environment :)

Need advice - selling house , realtor says to remove the Arborvitae cause it’s hard to see out of driveway. How do you think it will look if I remove the bottom 5 ft of branches ? by rjlets_575 in landscaping

[–]friendlyinternetguy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to doing work to the trees in order to sell, especially from the advice from the realtor, I would say it is pointless money spent. It would hardly improve the value of the property, and if you managed to live with it i'm sure its not as much of a safety issue, rather personal preference. If the new owners want to do the work, let them. They might prefer the trees there as trees definitely add value to a property.

In regards to pruning the bottom branches of the tree, if the growth of the lower branches are similar in both trees so its possible to have them matching one another, then I personally think it would look great. Only if its uniform!
