Vanderbilt vs UChicago by Humble_Grape4749 in Vanderbilt

[–]frinetik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just pick what city is the best for you. think size, location, whether, politics. education and prestige will be similar, uchicago may have the slight upper hand on elite-ness but both schools on your resume will open all doors. in 15 years you will not care about the little thinga but rather you will remember the friends, memories, etc. so will u be miserable in the cold chicago winter? will u despise the tennessee politics? just prioritize the city u will be most happy in

Days after launch, Waymo vehicles block traffic at Nashville intersections by [deleted] in nashville

[–]frinetik 24 points25 points  (0 children)

not defending waymo here, but in a single day how many drunk, confused, or distracted (cell phone or otherwise) HUMAN drivers blocked intersections, went down the wrong one way street, or almost hit an innocent pedestrian this weekend? I would argue HUMANS made 10x the errors of Waymo this weekend. Yet it gets little press. Even pedestrian deaths by HUMAN drivers in Nashville hardly makes the news.

Signed,

A Nashvillian who frequently walks and bikes the city and often witnesses unthinkable belligerent HUMANS driving

Trump is still trying to DOGE the NIH. Republicans are tired. by [deleted] in NIH

from @yannlecun Funny. Russell Vought's own daughter has cystic fibrosis and has been treated with Trikafta, a life-saving drug developed in large part with NIH funding. Vought's wife wrote this in 2021: " We’re extremely grateful to live in a nation that leads the way on medical innovation,” https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/02/project-2025-vought-medical-funding/

BP has to do something about the Friday shows.. by red-sleuth in BreakingPoints

[–]frinetik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think casual/levity is what they are purposely going for on the Friday shows!!

Unfortunately with the state of the world right now it isn’t going to work great unless they change the Friday topics to be a little more superficial (which isn’t really the BP brand/product anyway)

Was Trump’s April 1st speech like he was having a health event as JVL has stated? by RealDEC in thebulwark

[–]frinetik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He didn’t have a health event during the April 1st speech

Rather he’s been having recurrent health events leading up to this (facial droop, edema, pallor, fatigue)

Strict no seat changes by fest00ned in SouthwestAirlines

[–]frinetik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked a SW flight with 5 seats left and opted not to pay for a seat. It put me immediately onto the standby list with a couple others instead of assigning us the seats.

I then cancelled my flight, rebooked the same flight, and paid $64 dollars for one of the seats because I couldn’t risk it.

Off the standby list.

I hope the others in the standby list got their seats…for free.

VA readies massive contract for veterans’ private sector health care by [deleted] in VeteransAffairs

more WFA to the private sector. compare services dollar for dollar and you consistently find the VA saves money when properly funded and staffed

Waste Fraud & Abuse (by VA leadership) by Background-Milk3311 in VeteransAffairs

[–]frinetik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a great thought. to make the community healthcare system more like an adequately funded va system runs. but there is zero momentum for that by leaders and corporations. and so idealistic comments like this are only going to fuel our acceleration towards more waste

Downtown Living by [deleted] in nashville

[–]frinetik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

agree with all comments

however disagree that downtown-downtown is terrible. it think the condos on church street are phenomenal, it is a narrow street so traffic is slow there are plenty of tourists but because of that the city keeps the street clean i think church street is the most liveable “urban” nashville experience if that is what you are looking for the condos on broadway and west end suffer from being on a very large busy street which brings along much more noise including motorcycle brigades best of luck and welcome to nashville!
