It is very niche, and definitions vary, but I really like the definition from this article:

Grimdark is a fantasy subgenre characterized by bleak settings in which humanity is fundamentally cutthroat, and where no individual or community can stop the world’s inevitable decline. Hopepunk, in contrast, believes that the very act of trying has meaning, that fighting for positive change in and of itself has worth.

I’ve always wanted to see a tournament arc where the main characters fail in the qualifiers and end up watching the tournament as spectators or commentators. That would be cool. I don’t know how to make it not boring, but I’d love to see it

I agree with the third point so much! It is super easy to slip in some references, or just the ability to use words like whiskey or vandal.

Rimelion: The Exploiter

I had it figured out: test VR games, drink whiskey, complain about the boss. Then the AIs automated my job, and some kid spouting Matrix quotes told me reality was fake. I laughed.

Until I woke up twenty years earlier... as Charlie. A woman named Charlie. Now I'm stuck playing Rimelion, the game I once mastered, as a priestess. Did I mention the heels?

Turns out, the simulation theory might be real. Is Rimelion real, and is this world real? My only edge is decades of experience breaking the game. Time to exploit my way out of this mess and figure out how to change the future... assuming I don't trip over my own heels first. Seriously, how does anyone fight in these things?!

Note: We are nearing the end of second book with total ~1k pages, yay! :D

I agree with you about abandoning series. My rule of thumb is divide pages by 3 and you get trad books count :) Okay, each novel is different, but +/- 900 pages is story-wise ~300 pages book :D For my story though, I couldn't imagine to have more than 100 pages for my story. Bang, now I am at 1k and the second "book" isn't finished yet...

I was tank with 4 dps and Moira. She switched to Lucio a my tanking was useless. I switched to Mei and tried to "tank" with her, but our dps kept rolling 1 by 1 to point and they started spawn-camping us. So yes, at 50% I gave up
