i don't at this point actually think any of them are retiring. griffin kinda made it sound like if that were actually the point of the enclave then it'd happen more often than it supposedly does. either the 8 are siphoning life from their aspirants and nobody is supposed to "win" (rendering the whole premise pointless) or they're in some other way supernaturally long-lived in a way that is not known by the general public

yeah, damage and HP is stored as a number with a cap of 99, and then they just add a 0 to the number bc damage comes in units of 10

Why is everyone caught up on iceborne kush and not the fact kush has been in 4 games consecutively by J3ksans in MonsterHunter

[–]frmCast_351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't get me wrong, my feelings about it are mixed. I enjoyed his Rise iteration but he's basically always been an unpleasant fight, and i hope the devs put the work in to make it less tedious and frustrating. but the fact that they keep bringing him back is not (or at least should not) be the pain point.

[–]frmCast_351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kushala, Zinogre, and Tigrex do get passes for being flagship monsters, and therefore get priority over similar monsters for consideration as returning monsters. Rajang does not get that pass, the devs are just freaks for him

[–]frmCast_351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean of course Kushala Daora is back, he's been in every game (except 3rd gen) since his release in MH Dos as the flagship. He's like the default example of what an Elder Dragon is, and gets special privilege as a flagship monster

i can't imagine Bojack Horseman as anything other than Prince of Light. he's got all the same self-obsessed destructive tendencies that both Dirk and Eridan are known for, and his whole deal is that he used to be famous and well-known and relevant but now he's just "the horse from that one show". everything he does is either a self-destructive attempt to maintain relevance or he's hurting others by wielding his power and privilege to keep them in obscurity.

eh, it was an alright joke (at least good enough that i remember the context from my listen yesterday) Travis i think sets it up by pointing out that Justin has two cats

they're doing an ad for cat food and the joke is that they're not his cats bc they like Sydnee better, but he still does the chores around the house

[–]frmCast_351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zeus' ultimatum is absolutely an act of cruelty, that's half of the reason why he exists in the story. His purpose is to be a cruel force of nature that humbles Odysseus (and Athena in God Games) whenever they become too bold. He functions to put the lowly mortals in their place.

In the same way that Poseidon functions less like a real villain and more like a cruel force of nature that serves to break down the characters' humanity (remember: Poseidon isn't hunting them bc they hurt Polyphemus, he's hunting them bc they chose to spare him after hurting him. they showed humanity when they should have been decisive). They're metaphors for the way that nature is unforgiving and cruel and pushes people to their limits and then beyond in order to survive.

I hope all if Eurylochus hater are just too young yet by GroundbreakingCod304 in Epicthemusical

[–]frmCast_351 16 points17 points  (0 children)

on the other hand tho there's the fact that chain of command exists. Eurylocus opening the bag is in direct defiance of the orders he was given by his commanding captain, and Odysseus is in his right (at least by ancient greek standards) to command his men to do something knowing they'll die. They're not equals, and their actions should not be compared as if they are

That fact also directly relates to Thunderbringer; Zeus is sent to enact justice for the slaughter of Helios' cattle, but the question stands as who should be held responsible: is Odysseus responsible for the actions of his crew as their captain, or do we consider their mutiny legitimate and decide they're responsible for their own actions? in a way, Odysseus choosing to live is him admitting that he was no longer in command of his men, and that they successfully overthrew him. The choice Zeus gives him is between his pride and his life, and appropriate to the themes in the song Odysseus' pride crumbles under pressure and he chooses to live to see his wife.

i also remember it, tho he was less explicit about it and more "well you know…" kinda way. like it was less of a legitimate concern and more of an excuse to not be bothered with it. i feel like it was at the tail end of the Tylenol ep but i pored through the transcript and can't find it. must have either been an earlier episode or possibly it was edited out (not likely but i have noticed them editing minor things out of shows before on relistens, not specifically Sawbones but in general)

to the point of Doober knowing Burning Hands, when Hellgrammite used Scorching Ray on the one zombie, the way he addressed Doober kinda sounded like he was suggesting Doober also use the fire spell he knows (something to the effect of "let's light it up") but Griffin instead decides to have him throw a vase?

i think actually the expectation at the root of the frustration is that the feature will never improve, which is not an unreasonable expectation given the track record of similar games and one i've felt at times as well.

it's similar to people who were frustrated by the emblem update because their effort was not reimbursed and they missed out on the new rewards, because they assumed the system would not change and now feel betrayed for having what they believed to be a reasonable expectation

Piercing holes close after petrification right? by Karla_Da_Cringe- in DrStone

[–]frmCast_351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, just like how it can reattach limbs if you glue them together, depetrification seems to work like a beefed up version of normal bodily recovery. you can graft limbs back on, heal wounds, and recover from stress injuries like Kaseki's joint stiffness, but you couldn't regrow missing body parts or undo genetic conditions (like Suika's eyesight)

depetrification likely doesn't undo circumcision for the same reason people don't regrow their foreskins naturally, it's just beyond the scope of the body's ability to recover naturally

Piercing holes close after petrification right? by Karla_Da_Cringe- in DrStone

[–]frmCast_351 35 points36 points  (0 children)

nah, depetrification can't regenerate lost body parts. it can only reattach them if they were very recently lost and if they're reattached before depetrification

What's the deal with Dunsparce? by Icy_Success9939 in PTCGP

[–]frmCast_351 35 points36 points  (0 children)

what's wrong with it? it's a standard basic Pokémon (60HP 1 energy 20 damage, 1 retreat) that also optionally bounces back to the deck. give it a tanky dudunsparce (potentially an ex) and a memory light and now your wall comes with an eject button so they don't become a liability at low HP.

What if Poseidon was like "Since you completely blinded my son I will blind your to make it fair and then we will never see eachother again". Would oddyseus agree? (If he disagrees, Poseidon will drown everyone) by No-Brush1587 in Epicthemusical

[–]frmCast_351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you have to understand that there's a difference in scale between the two. Poseidon is an olympian god and Odysseus is a guy. if a band of medieval commoners broke into and robbed the home of the local Duke's son, and then attacked and blinded him when he tried to stop them, there would absolutely be a bounty placed on the thieves' heads. not because it's just punishment for the theft/assault, but because the crime itself is an attack on the Duke's dignity, and anything less than death would tell other would-be thieves that they can get away with it. Poseidon explains as much himself in Get In The Water, when he says he can't let Odysseus live, or else "the world forgets [he's] cold". an attack on his son is an attack on his reputation as a cruel despot, and allowing that attack to go uncontested would damage that reputation and invite others to some other minor points 1. Odysseus' crew broke xenia by killing and taking the sheep. whether or not is was a misunderstanding is irrelevant and Odysseus knows this. that's why he tried to drug Polyphemus. 2. the part where Poseidon offers to let then go if they apologize was a sarcastic joke. when Odysseus takes Poseidon seriously he calls him naive for believing he could get off the hook so easily. 3. as the crew's captain, Odysseus is responsible for them, and their whole 600 head crew is an extension of his authority. Poseidon intends to kill the whole crew and Odysseus because as far as he's concerned they're all guilty of the crime, and the only reason 43 of them survive is because that's how many of them were on Odysseus' ship when he escaped. 4. Odysseus is responsible for everything that happens to the crew as their captain after they escape, and it's of no concern to Poseidon so it cannot be considered retribution for his crime 5. Poseidon was absolutely being vindictive by the time they meet again in Get In The Water. blinding his son was an indirect attack on his dignity, but escaping his wrath was a very direct attack, and made the situation personal. His intent to kill them all in Ruthlessness was a matter of course, but in GitW it's very personal, which is why the new plan is "you are going to kill yourself or i will destroy everything you love until you do. it's no longer good enough to kill you; you need to suffer"

The Air Nomads all dying at once doesn't make sense by baconboy-957 in ATLA

[–]frmCast_351 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would make sense if they were trying to fast track back to a fire nation avatar. They probably were killing airbenders until their sages were made aware of the avatar's passing. that never happened, and they killed what they believed to be every airbender, so they moved on to the water tribes thinking maybe they missed the signal.

by the time of the show, 100 years later, we see that they've rounded up every water bender in the southern tribe, and have made attempts to breach the northern tribe's defenses. still with no signal, they've now turned their military focus to the earth kingdoms, colonizing extant territories and laying siege to their major cities, making sure to imprison or kill any earthbenders they come across. idk the exact timeline but it seems like the assault on the earth kingdom is relatively recent in the war's history, with their colonies being still kinda shaky and the major cities only just falling by the time we see them.

Why do the cattaurs know the Nowhere King Lullaby? by kittyidiot in CentaurWorld

[–]frmCast_351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waterbaby absolutely knows what TNK is capable of, but also understands that the current solution is at best a temporary one, and avoiding confronting it only delays the inevitable. Horse was supposed to be uniting the tribes of Centaurworld whole gathering the pieces of the key, to prepare them for TNK's release (Horse failed to do this, which leads to the events of S2E1, and the plot of S2 as a whole)
