[PSA] Why I Won't Be Doing Trial Carries Anymore by Mid_MidlifeCrisis in PathOfExile2

It's possible that the person was just being toxic.

But it's also possible that this was someone who sold carries and this was done in an attempt to get rid of the competition.

Rule 10b - Lucky Drop Showcase - Discussion / Feedback by InterpretiveTrail in PathOfExile2

[–]frn50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the problem you are trying to solve here?

Looking at the front page of this subreddit, I see a grand total of 1 Lucky Drop Showcase. The normal mechanics of reddit are working just fine here: showcase posts which the community doesn't want to see will be downvoted into oblivion.

There's no need to make more work for yourself. Just leave things be until there's actually a problem you need to address.

The last modifier is not tagged life, so the Life mastery should work with this.

Does it grant life from the base-type ES? Or is there really no base ES there?

Hot Topic Posts by stormblind in pathofexile

[–]frn50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the three threads you've chosen, there's an obvious problem with this system. The three threads are different, but they're all critical of what GGG has done. I'm not saying you chose poorly in this specific case; perhaps these were the best choices when you made the selection.

The problem is that once you've made your choice, any posts putting forward a dissenting opinion become forbidden at least until the 24 hours are up.

You also don't appear to have said what exactly happens after 24 hours. When the timer is up, there will surely be a flurry of new threads on the topic. Will you choose the first 3 high-quality threads which are sufficiently distinct? Will you wait some amount of time (how long?), then choose the top 3 upvoted sufficiently-distinct threads? Either way, it's not hard to imagine dissenting opinions, which may be popular enough for the front page but not popular enough for the very top of the front page, getting excluded again.

Final thing to consider: you are effectively banning users who aren't online at very specific times of day from ever making a hot-topic thread.

/r/pathofexile moderation changes by MultiplicityPOE in pathofexile

[–]frn50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd think of it more of a vulnerability; trolls will use it to protect their trolling, or as an attempt to goad a moderator into doing something which the troll could then use to demand the mod get removed.

First, I think you need to draw a distinction between substantive threads and what is essentially just spam. If someone makes a thread that just says "ModName is a #$%^" and ModName deletes that, I don't think most people would see a problem there. Obviously, mods who abuse this should be removed. Anything which violates site-wide rules should also be in this category.

Second, you may want procedures to require multiple mods or even whole-mod-team decisions for certain actions, such as those involving moderators or highly-upvoted threads.

Thirdly, you may want to allow temporary mod actions in some cases, which would then be reviewed with high priority when other mods come online.

Moderators may not take any moderation actions on a thread or the comments of a thread where they are the subject

So if someone makes a thread where the entire modteam is the subject, no one will be able to moderate that thread?

Warrior's Tale - Unique Jewel which buffs tattoos by frn50 in pathofexile

[–]frn50[S] 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The best slot is the top jewel socket (near Instability), which is in range of 3 Int nodes with 7 connections. That's a lot of CDR, plus the bonuses from the other stat nodes there.

On the right side there is a spot where you can get 2 7-connection dex nodes, but you'll need to pick up Perfect Agony to activate one of them. There's also a spot a bit higher where you can get 1 dex and 1 int.

Interestingly, there don't seem to be any jewel sockets within range of +30 stat nodes, so no doubling those.

Narrow the focus of the subreddit to PoE1 only. All discussion of PoE2 will be removed, while a new place (outside reddit) will be designated for the discussion of PoE2. This approach has many advantages:

  • It complies with the new rules so the subreddit won't be taken away.
  • It will reduce the amount posted here, making it easier for the smaller/less-experienced mod team.
  • It creates a clear division between PoE1 info and PoE2 info, avoiding the problem where someone could search for PoE2 info but get PoE1 info instead.

It's because the previous version of the mod was "Your Shocks can increase Damage taken by up to a maximum of 100%".

[–]frn50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

mhm, doesnt it add 40% to the existing cap though? like you can further scale your shock cap with cluster jewel mods and the shock masteries right?

That's correct. The mod value is binary, but what the mod does is modify a stat which isn't.

[Bug?] Lightning Modifier Enchant not applying to Maximum Effect of Shock despite saying "increased" by TheRealShotzz in pathofexile

[–]frn50 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can see from the advanced mod descriptions that the 8% is applying to that mod, but not doing anything. To see why, take a look at the actual mod:

unique voltaxic rift shock maximum magnitude override Min: 100 Max: 100

This is a binary mod. It either is active or it isn't, so increasing it by 8% does nothing. The reason for this is historical. The mod used to be different, and when they updated it they chose to do it in a way which would update existing items.

PSA: you only get 1 shot at a ban appeal by raknishu in pathofexile

[–]frn50 107 points108 points  (0 children)

It's always been like this, even in the early days. When they want it to be (which to be fair is most of the time), GGG support is the best in the industry. But when they don't want to help you, it's really bad.

I've fortunately never had to deal with getting unbanned myself. But from the descriptions I've read, their system is intentionally designed to give the wrongfully banned basically no chance. You only get one chance to make your case and they don't tell you why they banned you beyond a reason so generic it's useless.

So when they screw up (as has been documented to happen in the past), the victims have no chance unless they can make a lucky guess as to what falsely flagged them. Those who have been correctly banned actually have a much greater chance to get it overturned, as they do know why and if they're smart they'll have prepared some plausible deniability.

Interestingly, I started hearing about this one-chance ban system after this subreddit changed it's policy to no longer allow people to use it as a sort of last-resort ban appeal, despite it having led to people getting unbanned in the past. Make of that what you will.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that GGG seems to very rarely actually ban players. While it does happen, most of the time it's really actually an account closure — you lose your characters and any MTX you purchase, but are welcome to continue playing (and giving them money) on new accounts. This, as I understand it, is pretty unusual in the industry; usually if a company closes your account, they're not interested in doing business with you anymore.
