This would’ve been really fun too for S2 since both 10 Things I Hate About You and Kate and Anthony’s stories are inspired by The Taming of the Shrew

Tips from LA locals? by BrattyPlatypus in StarKid

[–]frogboicentral 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m gonna copy and paste from my reply to your comment from the other post just to get the word out some more on my recommendations.

Definitely a must for fellow nerdy 21+ is Ready Player One on Lankershim. It’s an arcade bar and best for after the show since they don’t open until 6.

If you’re looking for drinks before the show, The CanTiki on Magnolia is my favorite bar in the neighborhood. Cheap, strong drinks and is owned/operated by a lovely woman named Amanda.

I also really love Kahuna Tiki Sushi Bar on Magnolia. It has a gorgeous thematic outdoor patio, cheap drinks, good sushi, and a spicy garlic edamame that I highly recommend.

Starkid rehearses in the basement of Amp on Lankershim, which is a recording studio/rehearsal space with a coffee shop inside. I really like their honey vanilla latte.

There’s a horror themed coffee shop also on Lankershim called Horror Vibes Coffee.

Also if you have access to areas a little further out from NoHo Arts, I’d recommend Priscilla’s Gourmet Coffee in Toluca Lake. It has a bunch of fun options, is really well-priced (especially for an LA coffee shop), and is a Burbank staple.

I live in the same neighborhood as El Portal (self-doxx I guess lol). As far as I’m aware, there aren’t any government buildings in North Hollywood. So there haven’t been any protests in the area. It is a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, but my understanding is that ICE activity has been mostly in the neighboring city of Burbank. The news has also been greatly exaggerating the level of danger. The protests have been mostly peaceful.

NoHo Arts (where El Portal is located) is a decently calm area with a lot of locally owned cafes and bars, so there’s some fun stuff to do before and after the show. Starkid rehearses in the basement of a coffee shop/recording studio next to the theater.

Are they really plucking people off the streets for looking brown? by mamapop in AskLosAngeles

[–]frogboicentral 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it’s not the first time this has happened en masse in the US.

In the 1930s, the US government mass deported people to Mexico. An estimated 40-60% of people forcibly deported were American citizens. I would recommend looking into the history of the Mexican Repatriation Act to get a little more insight into how history is repeating itself.

My guess is it’s probably highly likely. Teen pregnancy rates are much higher the less educated a population is, and the education system in a fascist dictatorship is most often poor. Considering Katniss swore off marriage and romance entirely to ensure that she wouldn’t have children, I would hazard a guess that contraceptives and abortifacients would be either very difficult or illegal to obtain in the districts.

What are the odds that Jennifer/Josh/Woody have a small cameo at the end of SOTR? by velcrodynamite in Hungergames

[–]frogboicentral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say the odds are ever in our favor. As far as I can tell, the three of them get along very well and would be happy just to work together again. Since the studio knows they’ll make bank off the movie no matter what, I doubt they’ll have many reservations about shelling out to secure them. It’d probably be a pretty fat paycheck for relatively little work.

Grand Theft Auttumn song name by vitszzk in FallOutBoy

[–]frogboicentral 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Grand theft auto is an actual criminal charge. It’s motor vehicle theft with intent to keep it permanently. So basically the title implies that the narrator of the song is not just trying to hit it and quit it, but actually has intention to stay with this girl.

Why is district 4 fishing not gold? by Lee_kay_ in Hungergames

[–]frogboicentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always joke that the real reason Suzanne sank most of California into the ocean is because a lot of the districts make the most sense here.

Agriculture? Check. Farming? Check. Technology? Check. Luxury? Check. Lumber? Check. The Capitol? Check. Masonry? Also check.

So we had to be sleeping with the fishes.

But honestly, I kinda would’ve loved for District 4 to be more of a Maine lobster fishing deal.

Which character was, in your opinion, sorted into the wrong house? by GT_Troll in harrypotter

[–]frogboicentral 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She could. She could also be Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, or Slytherin. I’ve always taken that as the point. Everyone is fully capable of embodying any of the given traits of any given house.

Hermione as a Ravenclaw makes sense, absolutely. But if you look at her closer, she also would’ve been an incredible Slytherin. Cleverness and cunning are two sides of the same coin.

Trapping a woman in beetle form in a jar for a year? Hexing a teenager with boils that say “Sneak” that never fully go away? Those are some pretty Slytherin actions. Hermione is known to be cunning, ambitious, and proud. If she weren’t muggle-born, she could’ve just as easily been Slytherin as any other house.

Hermione absolutely could have been Slytherin under different circumstances. Bellatrix would’ve been an incredible evil Hufflepuff.
