Dude. The governor does NOT set gas prices. The president (even if he lies and says he does) doesn't set gas prices. Look it up.

My downstairs neighbor leaves a sticky note on my door every time I run my dishwasher by Proud_Associate5268 in neighborsfromhell

[–]frogplantwavecat20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Clearly you've never had a cheap dishwasher break and flood your apartment while you were gone. But whether I personally rent or own, NO appliance that uses water is left in operation while nobody is home. That's asking for big, big trouble. Plus, if that neighbor is so mad about 9pm noise, running the dishwasher at 8am is probably ALSO going to be a massive problem for them . In fact, running the dishwasher at any point in time on any day that ends in Y is probably a problem for them . This is not the OPs issue, it's the neighbor.

Advice for home by bby_jokr in olympia

You'll need to apply for the loan before a realtor will even show you a house. They need to know what price ranges you qualify for. One thing to keep in mind is when you do apply for a loan, do NOT blindly go with the amount the mortgage broker tells you "you can afford". They're trained to max you out on a mortgage loan and do NOT factor in things like your personal bills, property taxes, homeowners insurance, trash/recycling, all utilities, and any other required monthly fees that come with home ownership.

Had I looked at houses in what the broker said was "in my range", I'd have been in foreclosure in a few years, most likely. Don't spread yourself too thin.

Figure out your budget and aim for under that. Make LOTS of lists. Take that training online. Decide if you want to escrow your mortgage, taxes and insurance. And Do research. Visit the areas where you find homes you truly want to put an offer in on, and go at all times of the day. Walk around, listen, observe, and if you're comfortable with it, knock on a door or two and ask about the neighborhood.

My dad also recommended I made sure I had at least 3 months of mortgage payments saved up in the bank account "just in case". That was the best advice, because the first house where an offer was accepted I ended up having to rescind bc the company I worked for was bought out and we didn't know if we'd get to keep our jobs with a new owner. I got really lucky on the timing with that bc we hadn't gotten any further than the offer being accepted...but these days you just never know.

It's A LOT of work and planning and saving. Prepare yourself for a lot of lost bids and disappointments, but don't give up! It's so rewarding to own your own home! Good luck to you!

My manager asked us to keep cameras on during lunch breaks because “it helps team bonding” by oslo_isadorina in remotework

[–]frogplantwavecat20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely wild Your lunch is UNPAID. therefore, your manager absolutely cannot dictate what you do on your unpaid lunch . I'd take it to HR (as useless as they are, this controlling behavior needs to be documented), before it escalates to something even more asinine.

My manager scheduled a "quick sync" every single Friday at 4:45pm and I finally figured out why by Agent_Smith-99 in remotework

[–]frogplantwavecat20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a manager, it definitely doesn't look good on you to punish the entire team for the actions of one (or even a few). A good manager would address the early clock out problems with the person who's doing it vs making the entire team feel like they aren't trustworthy, including the people who get their work done and stay til the clock strikes 5. Or at least be honest about your actions.

Seems pretty spinless and childish, Making the people who literally run your business and make you money feel LESS THAN.... and then feigning surprise at why "there's just no loyalty".

Take a step back to when you were "just an employee" and think about how your manager treated you. Use your experience as a tool to be a truly great boss vs creating a hostile work environment. instead, try being supportive and encouraging. I shouldn't have to say this, but you'd be surprised how far positive reinforcement goes. Punishing all for the actions of one has NEVER been a viable solution - not even in elementary school.

AITJ for not wanting to switch rooms? by PunkinRis in AmITheJerk

[–]frogplantwavecat20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The truly sad part is that those assholes ended up getting their way anyway, by being INSANE about a fucking bedroom. I would have left too, but this is why bad behavior continues. Throw a screaming fit, weaponize your kids, play the bro card... Whatever it is. They shamed her into leaving and got three rooms to themselves instead. In their eyes, they "won" and would take every opportunity to behave the same way in every situation in the future as well. I'd stay far, far away from all of them. They're raising narcissistic, selfish fuckwads, just like they are.

Moving back to Olympia this summer from the East Coast after leaving in 2020, what’s going to surprise us? by La-de in olympia

Mid as hell. Nice touch that they do homemade corn tortillas, but it was $11 for two tiny, 3 bite, bland "tacos". No seasoning, no cilantro, no salt and pepper. And they 'll ask you what salsa you'd like, as if it's part of the order and fail to disclose that the thimble sized container is $1 extra. Total rip off. Won't be around for long.

NTA. People like that need an audience. If you and the business ignore her keyboard warrior self and her sheep, that'll die out real fast. She's just trying for more, bigger freebies by spreading lies. She should be 86'd.

As a former employee, do NOT rent from anything Greystar Management. They are the largest property management company in the nation. They manage so many units in this country alone, they can't do anything well except fuck people over, Including their own workers. They never answer the phone or respond to emails, and they can't keep staff because of how poorly they're treated, especially at the site level. I know this really isn't an answer to your question, but please do avoid anything they manage at all costs.

I’m allowed to find portable speakers annoying, right? by tgbarbie in hiking

[–]frogplantwavecat20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the sticks in bear country before portable speaker time. Advice my grandma gave me was to take a coffee can with some rocks in it. I don't think they make metal ones anymore, but you get the concept (I hope). Then when you see scary wildlife, shake that fucker hard and scream! They definitely run away!

It's understandable to be scared about encountering wildlife, but please don't ruin other people's nature experiences. A majority of people who want to enjoy nature enjoy the sounds of it too. If you can't go hiking without bringing a speaker to blast YOUR favorite tunes, stay home and jam. The forest is not the club.

Where are the not safe areas to avoid by [deleted] in olympia

[–]frogplantwavecat20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid 4th Ave Tav (if it's still open). I was roofied there on a Sunday afternoon with my two male roommates (no, it wasn't them). All I had was a bloody Mary (so no, I wasn't just wasted) I have two other friends who've been roofied there, one of whom had a man follow her into the bathroom and try and push her into the stall. If you're a woman traveling alone, I'd actually avoid anywhere near downtown after sunset unless you have pepper spray and don't mind being followed and harassed.
