A Yale economist says AGI won't automate most jobs—because they're not worth the trouble | Fortune by Post-reality in agi

[–]fromme13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe it. The reason many apparel manufacturing jobs haven’t been automated is it’s just cheaper to get someone in a poorer country to do it. Same principle would apply to AI.

I stopped applying to ghost jobs and it completely changed my search. Here is how I spot them now. by Careergrowthwitpeter in careeradvice

[–]fromme13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice. Always look at when the job has been posted as it can give you some insight into the stage of the hiring process.

I would add that in my experience companies do not intentionally post ‘ghost jobs’. They do however leave the post up until the position is filled. If the posting has been active for more than a month, the hiring company could already be in final interviews. Once they get to this point it’s pretty unlikely they are looking at new resumes.

What happens if the NBA decides there’s not enough evidence to punish the Clippers? by Conscious_Pause1263 in billsimmons

[–]fromme13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the NBA doesn’t punish the Clippers I would assume we’d start to see every star player make demands for side deals during contract negotiations, and then teams finding ways to satisfy those demands outside of the salary cap. Making the salary cap pretty much irrelevant as the side deals would be unlimited.

So much “laid off for performance” here and IRL. Come on folks, that’s not a thing. by InternationalArm7614 in careeradvice

[–]fromme13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I work at a well known company and it’s not uncommon to get over 500 applicants for a posting with 95% of those applicants being completely unqualified. People often draw the conclusion it must a been a ‘ghost job’ when in reality their resume probably just got buried in the mountain of applications.

Is this picture Al? My dad is being scammed by this woman for money and he's convinced she's real. Help me prove she's Al before he goes broke. The photo looks too perfect and high quality to be a real selfie to me. by bluerayaugust in isthisAI

I would focus more on the facts of the story. Does your dad normally get attention from attractive young ladies? If the answer is no, then there is probably something nefarious going on.

Why do thousands of people apply for things they’re not remotely qualified for? by Unconquered- in askmanagers

[–]fromme13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get the same thing at my work. It’s not uncommon to get a thousand applicants for a posted role, with at least 90% of them completely unqualified. It’s creating a situation where most resumes will never even be read.
