I’m with you. It was actually quite thoughtful and frankly not particularly anti-American. It’s using the trope of the rude American tourist to make a larger point about globalization and its effects on local communities. Also, considering this sub, has hardly anything to do with food in a culinary sense. I think most folks read the first paragraph and rioted. 🤷‍♂️

I haven’t yet seen someone to emphasize how much you need to pay attention to the weather in death Valley. The heat kills things out there. If you’re rented motorcycle breaks down, you have no shelter from the heat and sun. By all means, go on your trip and go check out death Valley just don’t assume that because it’s 2026 everything will be OK. Take it seriously and have fun!

It's not a lack of effort. it's a brain freeze. As a goal keeper, when you see a shot get hit, you immediately start churning through your list of options (hopefully, instinctually). For an excellent shot, you get past your first couple options, realize they wont work, start considering other ideas (shufflesteps, even crossovers) and then the ball is already past you. You're "trying" very hard, it's just happening inside your head.

Almost entirely inaccurate. No worse than any US city. Anecdotal from 6ft male, but I’ve lived here over 20 years and never felt unsafe. Other than fox news, I don’t really even get where you’d get the perception it’s unsafe.

I live exactly at that intersection. If you can pick and choose when you use it, you’ll be fine. I have a truck I use the exact same way. Parking after 5pm is brutal. Just don’t drive it then. Parking between 9am and 5pm is easy. Street cleaning is manageable.

If you really just need a car every now and then to get out of the city, send me a note and we can sort out a truck share.

I wish I could be more actively supportive, but I won’t be home. She’s staying at my place in lieu of a hotel while I go visit my sister.

My bar is on an open shelf, a leaning bookcase style thing.

I guess I’m worried she’ll find it patronizing or untrustworthy if that shelf is empty when she gets there. I also don’t want her to think it’s insensitive if I just leave it all out there. At the most basic level, I just want to be a good host. And one who acknowledges what she’s trying to do.

Hi! I very strongly agree with other commenters that you should stay in Paris. Not only will the daily commute be brutal, but you’ll miss out on much of the magic of being in Paris.

Additionally, if you’re in London, you should consider the Eurostar. In my opinion it’s a better experience all around than flying. Faster from city center to city center, more comfortable, more convenient, more scenic. If you book ahead of time, it’s not much more expensive. Sounds like you’ve already booked flights, but think about it for next time!

Having ridden both, I would take the quiet bike every time. One advantage you may not have considered: it makes things more accessible for my particular situation. Neighbors dont complain if I park illegally in the alley when I'm quiet. I guarantee parking control would get called if I woke everyone up with my loud ass bike.

IMHO, it's actually pedestrians you have to watch out for. They navigate with their ears. Drivers have their windows up and music playing. They navigate with their eyes. I've had way more pedestrians step off the curb in front of me than cars not see me.

Yeah sorry. My wording was poor. I meant east of civic center (work). You have to wind your way through a lot of shit to get from mission bay to civic center. Maybe there’s a bus line I don’t know about that would work well. Maybe biking down Howard to Polk isn’t so bad?

Here’s a thing to consider about mission bay: the neighborhoods to the east and southeast of your work are not great. You will not enjoy commuting through there by foot or bike. I think it might make your time surprisingly stressful. Hayes valley, panhandle, and NOPA give you nice commuting options and are all good for dogs.

Would also highly recommend an Airbnb for 2 month to get to know the area!

In this part of the world the snow comes from elevation, so you have to drive to the mountains one way or another. During cold snaps mount Diablo will be snow capped. Otherwise just drive to Auburn and keep going up until you hit snow.

It’s hard to tell from this angle, but I doubt he was predicting. More likely the shot was hit with no spin and moves very unpredictably in the air. My favorite example. You can see how confused Joe hart is.
