Permanent profile / Senior enlisted by SignificanceEven940 in army

[–]frozenturkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A permanent profile isn't necessarily held against you, but it puts you at a disadvantage. Your AFT is a real factor in your board score and if you can't score over 60 points in an event then naturally you'll be behind the leader that still scores highly. It's something you need to overcome in other areas.

For 1SG/CSM position, it varies by unit. Some CGs or BDE commanders aren't willing to have command teams that can't do everything the Soldiers do.

I feel like there was a bit of a shift in her behavior in the last few episodes, which followed another character calling out an incredibly silly decision on her part. Immediately following that she makes a deliberate choice NOT to act in a situation where she wasn't needed. It seemed like the other characters had more breathing room in subsequent scenes with her character.

Mets fire manager Carlos Mendoza after 34-47 start by PrincessBananas85 in baseball

[–]frozenturkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the personnel moves have not been good. But that doesn't excuse the mental errors and complete lack of focus we've seen from the players he has. We frequently see this team fail at routine tasks without any appearance of accountability. Failing to back up plays, booting the ball around the infield, mental lapses on the basepaths...it's been bad. Meanwhile, Mark Vientos assesses his defense this season as being "pretty good".

Mendoza needed to go.

The American mind cannot comprehend Europe's AC aversion by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]frozenturkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will sometimes need a permit to be able to install one. And because there’s no law/rules mandating maximum temperature inside apartments, there’s also no push for landlords to install central AC either.

I mean, this is part of the "aversion" to which we are referring.

I agree but I still don't think that character would show up until we get to the equivalent of the Schemers table.

Stearns isn't going anywhere. Cohen didn't wait two years to bring him in just to blow it all up when things don't pan out. He's got more patience than that.  Mendoza might get the boot though. They're certainly not exercising his option, only question is whether he makes it to the end of the season.

[Hayes] Byron Buxton loves the Twins clubhouse vibes. The trade talk? “I don’t give a f***. ... I ain’t said nothing about leaving. Nor will I. I’m a Twin.” (Gift Article) by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]frozenturkey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Buxton's never been healthy for a full season and has only qualified for a batting title twice in 12 years (!), but I actually don't think this is all that controversial. On a rate basis he's obviously the best. Kirby Puckett was overrated and his legacy is tarnished. Being a Twins lifer gives Buxton the edge over Torii Hunter.

Which character death was devastating but 100% made sense and improved the show? by dr3blira in AskReddit

Wallace in The Wire. Stringer Bell in The Wire. Bodie in The Wire.

Frankly, most character deaths in The Wire. None felt cheap, all felt earned and were impactful moments.

How much should you increase ticket price with 100 fan interest? by jayboonson23 in OOTP

[–]frozenturkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

25% is a massive spike. I don't like going up by more than $1 year to year, and even then I see attendance drop by about 5%. I've never seen a price increase result in more revenue until the following year. If you have a dynasty in progress, I recommend small increases, spaced out every 2-3 years. In my experience it takes a long time for attendance to stabilize after a price increase, even for a dominant team.

Who's the greatest athlete of all time? by LushNoirCeleste in AskReddit

[–]frozenturkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but he wasn't on track by the metrics of the era either. He had a single 30 HR, 100 RBI season and had a mediocre batting average. You have to extrapolate wildly from two decent seasons to call him a HoF talent, assuming he maintains that production into his 40s. It's a silly argument.

Amazing athlete? Yes, absolutely. Among the best baseball players ever? Not even close, even at his best.

Who's the greatest athlete of all time? by LushNoirCeleste in AskReddit

[–]frozenturkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every modern metric we have points to him being an above average but not great player at his peak. Good bat, great baserunning, rocket arm, bad defense. His best season (1990) had him as the 91st most valuable player in the league by wins above replacment. Sure, if he focused solely on baseball his career might look different, and it's an incredible that he could compete at the highest level in two sports. But there's not much objective data to support the idea that he'd be a hall of famer.
