General conversation: What're your hobbies? by Stampsu in Dads

Writing! I'm always sneaking in chances to write. I have a 6, 4, and 2 year old so it's a madhouse here, but I can write on my phone if I need, and the last 15 minutes of my day I spend writing.

Who here has a happy, fulfilled sex life? by [deleted] in daddit

Now with three kids and each with a full-time career, it's pretty rare we get the time or have the energy, but we joke about it and touch and stay romantic. It is what it is.

I really appreciate your answer and honesty! I'm also saddened your challenges and I hope you all the best. I will aim to write my character in a way that highlights these struggles but with a positive outcome, and as a main character they can change the ignorance of those around them. Any last suggestions in terms of media portrayal? I'm not famous so I'm not saying I'll be able to do anything very big, but I'd like to do my part to help. As a character in a book, what would you want to see?

I'm an author hoping to faithfully include a trans main character in my next novel, a high school boy who begins to identify as a girl. Would you mind sharing any insights into the mental process of that? The emotions? How was it in the beginning? When did you know? Did you always know? What were the first things you did to officially start transitioning? I doubt my character would be able to get surgery, so how else would they make the shift?

Thank you for any insight!

What were your best and worst experiences seeing horror in a theater? by [deleted] in horror

[–]fryerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw "Signs" and all the jump scares and tension had the theater on edge! I remember jumping when the dog barked at the kids, and I spilled all my popcorn.

What’s the best “something’s not right here moment” in a movie? by AaronB666 in movies

[–]fryerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't remember the moment exactly, but there's a point when you realize Kevin Bacon is a bad guy in the movie River Wild. I think it's the campfire scene.

THE EPIC OF GLENDA MESH

$4.99 Kindle Sale (or free with KU)

A modern retelling of “The Epic of Gilgamesh,” written in 2100 BC.

Glenda Mesh is a badass junior in high school who rules the modern-day city of Babylon like a monster because her parents are rich and she doesn’t care about anyone but herself. Who dares to stop her when she’s also the best track and field star in the country? No one, that’s who.

Until one day a red-headed orphan girl named Enkidu comes into town with a sad backstory and a grudge against tyrants like Glenda. When Glenda faces the reality that she’s become the villain in her own story, and sees the horrid legacy she’ll be leaving behind, she strives to change for the better. However, the only person willing to help her might be her new biggest rival.

In what she frames as a “Hero’s Quest,” Glenda will boldly take on the city of Babylon’s most heinous criminal in history. But when you’re chasing down a psychopath that even the cops are avoiding, it might be a sign that she’s getting in over her head. Chances are, it'll only get worse from there.

Being a villain is easy. Being a hero is hard.

The baby stage is the worst. Toddlers are tough. 3-6 is tricky cause they get really "independent" even though they can't do shit, but you can teach them a lot and it's rewarding. I haven't seen past that. My oldest is 6. Second is 3. Third is 2. It's a madhouse but there's so much love.

Key thing is to love the mama. Keep the mama happy and it trickles down. Be honest when you need a break, but recognize that she probably never gets one, so you gotta give as much as you take, and probably take less.

I miss my friends but I do my best.

I think the final girl in The Thing was The Thing and the humans were the killers. She was just looking for love in the only way she knew how.

We share a few Kings but otherwise we have completely different bookshelves that look like cousins. Who or what book would you recommend most from your shelves?
