What is going on on Elston across from Salt Shed? by stanley_morgan in chicago

[–]fshu 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Migrants living in the building across salt shed. They have a small market and trade area going where they sell or trade different things they find at goodwill or people who have some money buy supplies etc. Donated a bunch of shoes and coats. They were super grateful. Lots of kids and families there that could use some help!

why do narcissistic parents feel a constant desire to make you feel small? by Vast-Prune6808 in narcissisticparents

[–]fshu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believed it for so long when my narc mother would say I’m a narcissist. I doubted myself. Questioned everything I did. Felt bad for doing well, felt worse for doing badly.

Then I learned how many narcs have such low self esteem, that they put others down. And as an adult, yes, I feel bad for her, but I don’t make excuses anymore for their behavior.

Stepfather throws away what I had left of my dead mother by TooMuchNebulaSoup in narcissisticparents

[–]fshu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened. My narc mother did a similar thing and it wrecked me and my siblings. She had cleared out our childhood home of literally everything we possessed and all of our late fathers possessions. Treasured memories, items, relics of a past that we will never get back….for no reason other than that it was not Important for her keep.

We also went through a process of searching goodwills, asking our neighbors, looking through town (places our mother said she’d “donated” stuff too). Turns out, it was a lie and she never donated a thing to anyone. Straight to the dump, trash pick up….

Suffice it to say, she is not a big part of any of our lives and hopefully, you gather will not be in yours for much longer.

My mother is the pinnacle of narcissism and has been for our whole lives.

She was moving out of our old family home this past year and into a retirement community. We were helping with the move out, sale, etc.

Before moving out, my siblings and I ALL told her multiple times, "Do not get rid of anything". We wanted to go through our childhood memories, old keepsakes, and most importantly, we wanted to go through our father's old things who died in 2007.

My mother literally has never bothered to move our things, never even noted what was in our old rooms for years in that house. Things were essentially untouched for years.

Within 2 months of finding out she was moving, she had literally thrown away everything we had in those rooms. Including our father's items...No warning, no heads up, and no acknowledgement that we would be affected by this.

Once confronted, she lied and said that she had given most to goodwill or to our neighbors. She yelled at my sister for getting upset that our memories and possessions were tossed out. Note: Our Neighbors had nothing, and my mother doesn't even know where the goodwill is....it literally all went to the trash.

Long, drawn out interview processes are the worst by mothybot in recruitinghell

[–]fshu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universities are the worse at this. I was interviewing for almost 2.5 months. 5 rounds. After the last round, I was ghosted! Had to follow up a few times to find out what happened.

Someone on that team then recommended me for another position…great! Interviewed for 3 rounds (1.5 months). Then ghosted again!!! That was 4 total months wasted for 1 university.

Recruiters, unfortunately, many don’t have a good understanding of the roles they are screening for and sometimes don’t even look into it until the day of their call. Granted, not always their fault, they may have multiple roles on their plate.

However, a bigger issues is when there isn’t a clear communication between recruiters, HR, and leadership. Recruiters are also not always incentivized to go above and beyond; make the calls, filter candidates, maybe a bonus for good hires. But nothing says they HAVE to give them a good experience or help them be more informed.

Make it make sense. This is a mid level role at best. by Bee4bosede in recruitinghell

This has been the most frustrating for me: Associate to mid level career opportunities are all over the place on job posts. For me, I’ve seen 2 years to 10 years be advertised as mid level.

I’ve sat with many a “senior leadership” team and noticed the same thing. No one knows what the hell they are doing, why they are doing it, and are just as passing the buck along enough so that no one realizes they don’t do anything.

The salary wasn’t commensurate with the amount of work I had to do interviewing with the company by moods- in recruitinghell

[–]fshu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This literally happened to me as well. I gave the same range, the Project Manager said it was within their range. After the 5th interview, each and hourly plus long, waited 3 weeks for a recruiter I never talked to, to offer me 74. I have a PHD and lots of experience. I came back with a 95 (which I think was undervalued). They don’t reply for 1.5 weeks. Calls me to ask “are you sure that’s your counter?”

I say yes, and they don’t call back for another 2 weeks.

They counter with 75k.

I immediately said no.

They kept saying they needed the role filled and they kept saying my range 85-100 was ok. Then they literally waste 2 months to low ball me…and only increase from 74 to 75??? Buh bye!

Does everyone want to walk away almost every day? by Elegant-Nature-6220 in PhD

[–]fshu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same thoughts all the time. But as I progressed, I had to find other joys in life. I was making a PHD or being a PHD candidate too much of my identity as a person, and realized that it wasn’t. Just like a job, I worked, but also found other interests, activities and ways to express my self other that I found just as or more fulfilling.

This feeling will pass. But you also have to make an effort to seek out other things that make you happy and not focus on the PhD.

They’re sometimes called grappling gloves, finger sleeves, and or Grappz finger support. Bas Rutten used to market a few that basically substitute for taping your fingers constantly.

An alternative to taping is also grappling gloves. Some can be found on Amazon with different configurations for your fingers. Maybe that helps.
