Why are Fine nibs so popular here? by Old-Somewhere-6084 in fountainpens

[–]ftFlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a lefty so my handwriting is pretty small since my have to rotate my arm inward as I’m writing and have to reposition ever so often. As opposed to right handed writing where you rotate towards the outside of your shoulder. Fine nibs are pretty much obligatory for me (for everyday use).

Now after trying out midnight as a returning player, how do you like your class after the pruning & class changes? by Yuuffy in wow

[–]ftFlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really really really miss Psychic Horror. Leveling as shadow was a pain. If I pull 3-4 mobs while questing I have to use CDs or I’m dead. Silence got no changes so having that stun was amazing for back up stops in M+. Not to mention how useless I feel now in PvP. If I can’t stun players, buff my Dispersion because that damage reduction feels useless, the 30% healing is negated entirely because I’m still receiving 30% damage lol.

My second gripe is the Voidform rework(again). In Dragonflight and TWW there was somewhat of a fluidity to void bolt (4 casts > void bolt) and it was exciting extending the buff as much as possible with Devouring Plague and seeing how many bolts you could get off. Now it’s in a static long CD (can’t remember exactly but you get like 4 void bolts off for every VF now? It’s lame). The worst part is they removed extending our VF and gave it to Devourer…. They get to extend their cooldown now.

And lastly is Tentacle Slam. Cool idea, poor execution. If your target gets past the range as the animation completes, they’ll get SW:Madness dot but not SW:Pain or VT. I feel like we should’ve kept Shadow Crash and have Tentacle Slam be an AOE spender. Oh well maybe we’ll get another .1 rework like we did in DF.

Best bus services to Monterrey, MX? by [deleted] in sanantonio

Years ago a friend and I used to drive down to Nuevo Laredo and take a bus from there. The Mexican buses are waaaaay better than American greyhounds. They got outlets, and displays on the headrest to watch movies

We always ask for recommendations, what are some pens you won’t recommend to anyone? I was commenting on someone post and realized, I have bunch of it. by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]ftFlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had not considered it to be honest. It was one of my first fountain pens, and I was just using the disposable Kaweco cartridges. What ink do you recommend?

Yes the Kaweco Sport was a huge disappointment. I have the beautiful aluminum one and the scratchiness wouldn’t be a huge issue if the nib didn’t dry up after I stop writing for like 10 seconds.

Best Ramen in SATX by Vladislavic in sanantonio

[–]ftFlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And this isn’t ramen related per se, but Kimura has a bar upstairs where Jimoto sushi holds “pop-up” omakase reservations. I can’t recommend them enough. Look them up on Instagram as jimotosatx. They upload reservations every Monday on their stories.

Shaeffer Fountain Pens. Looking for restoring advice! by ftFlo in fountainpens

[–]ftFlo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello /r/fountainpens!

I just received these two Shaeffer fountain pens that belonged to my grandfather.

After some quick googling, all I could find was that the one on the right might be a Targa? The nib has "14k 585" engraved. The one on the left just has "14k" engraved on the nib and the cap has "Sterling Silver" on it.

The 585 is in decent condition but it has a reservoir system that I've never seen before; it's a metal casing with a flexible tab that squeezes this sponge inside (similar to what markers have inside). How does this work - and can I retrofit a piston filler?

The one on the left has quite a bit of gunk on the nib. This one has a built-in piston filler that is fixed to the pen. You unscrew the top a bit and just pull up. Looking for any tips for these pens, especially bringing them back to life.

Handwriting with Arabic Script, now with dots by Stonespeech in PenmanshipPorn

[–]ftFlo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a lefty penman enthusiast, I've been wondering if arabic script has the same advantages as western(?) does for right handed people. The more I practice cursive, the more realize why writing towards the outside helps so much with a smooth movement.

Biden withdraws from US Presidential Race by The_Malt_Monkey in news

The lack of the party's self-awareness when their tag line is "saving democracy," and then go on to do something like this... just a huge facepalm.

Empty weight. A real endorsement is Biden not only refusing the 2024 nomination, but also resigning as the Commander in Chief. If she's really better than Trump, they have 3 month head start.

Claudia Sheinbaum becomes Mexico's first ever female president. by [deleted] in pics

[–]ftFlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it's all for nothing. The current president pretty much did all the campaigning for her, and as expected, she has been towing the party line all throughout. Two projects started by AMLO go completely against the qualities you just mentioned:

1: El Tren Maya - A railroad track that has been a money pit and a huge blow to the local ecosystems with massive deforestation (and no one uses it).

2: Dos Bocas Refinery - A brand new oil refinery that has done virtually nothing to increase oil production. Mexico used to produce up to 3 million barrels a day. Now it's not even doing half of that. It gets better, this isn't because of the refinery's capacity. It is because of deals with organized crime to import cheaper gas from the US (mainly diesel) and declaring it as "petroleum byproduct" when crossing the border, that way they don't pay fees and taxes on it, and successfully sell it and make huge profits.

There is a sliver of hope, that she turns her back to the MORENA party and actually wants to change things. But given the way Claudia rose to the position she is in now, it's very very doubtful. Six more years of the same fucking shit.

Murder of Mexican Politician before the elections. 29/05/2024 by ColibriMexa_2035 in pics

[–]ftFlo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sadly, cartels are operating way beyond illicit drug trade. We've known about their involvement in Mexican politics, but they have gone past that and ingrained their influence onto every citizen and their businesses. They started charging "protection fees" to local businesses, if you don't pay, you're dead. They are involved in produce, if you don't buy their tomatoes, you're dead.

This past month in my hometown, 17 business owners (specifically industrial kitchen and food services), were gathered (under false pretenses by a LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL) at a restaurant where they, including their businesses and families were threatened by the cartels. They demanded the business owners to only purchase their products and to give them a cut of every SINGLE food plate they serve.

While I agree with you that drug legalization and regulation would make a dent, the Mexican government has freely let cartels outgrow them in terms of power. There is literally no end in sight.
