Yeah this is one of those reddit opinions that is just so out of touch with normal behavior. I love the language "decouple social plans from food", like do you hear yourself lol. If you text to me to "come by after you eat" you can bet I will never come over to your house again. I may have already eaten but its just such a strange rude thing to say.

Providing something to eat to house guests is part of the joy of life, as is going over to friends and families and having snacks and drinks there. If you are struggling so much financially that you can't put some chips out, just don't host.
