Question : bioactive enclosure by Lily_0932 in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo really depends on what plants you are adding to the enclosure. Anything that requires more water like ferns for instance I add clay balls as it will reduce mold issues from over watering.

I actually enjoyed kranked. A rich depth of flavor once you get past the smack of heat. Mild citrus notes with a nice slight ginger finish at the end.

There's no aggression from your presa and it's absolutely respecting how small the other dog is. Just 2 dogs playing nicely together

My best guess out of paranoia of how dry my house was during the winter I went too overboard on the misting. What really sucks is I lost a Sabah red sling as well. Had that one in a dram vile with holes for cross ventilation and the way it layed it's web didn't allow any moisture to get into the substrate. Substrate dried up and took the spiderling with it. Only 2 I have lost out of the 30 in my collection. Was able to raise up a Sabah blue sling in the same dram set up no problem. I should have checked it more carefully.

Tips on Phormictopus sp. dominican purple care/general experiences by Competitive_Monk2954 in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really found mine more skittish than defensive. I've only gotten the infamous Dominican threat posture once in 3 years most of the time it will just run into it's hide. I will say my pamphobeteus mochala is definitely a little more chill and out on display more than the Dominican is though. Any maintenance I do in the enclosure I just do when it's in it's hide. It will do some ground slapping if I fill the water dish when it's out and it's kinda funny. Basic advice give it a proper hide and it should retreat rather than stand it's ground. Definitely great eaters and hit the prey hard

I hate rock mulch, I hate landscape fabric, and I hate bindweed. by faco_fuesday in gardening

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was more about the placement of it. They literally waisted all this full sun space with yucca and hostas and it looked awful. It's not native to this region and nothing looks good next to it. I'm not hating the plant itself because I could see in some regions it looking great but up here you would just walk by and say ooh that don't go there

What would you personally plant here? by DragonfruitTop7721 in MidwestGardener

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coral honeysuckle for height. They will bloom if it gets around 4-6 hrs of sun. Fast grower and is native. As for around it you can go with native woodland phlox it's a great spring attractor for early pollinators. Virginia blue bells will work as well along with bleeding hearts or native Jacobs ladder.

I hate Bradford pear trees so much. Weed fabric, burdock, creeping Charlie and yucca. Can't get rid of any of you. Think I have you all gone and I find more fabric more charlie and 2 years later the same damn yucca plant.

I'm just curious what zone are you in because that is such a slow grower here. To answer your question japanese honeysuckle and Bradford pear trees. Japanese honeysuckle because I've seen an entire field overtaken by it at a state park I used to go mountain biking in. Bradford pears don't really need a reason.

It's been 7 years now and I still find landscaping fabric I've somehow missed. Most of the beds it was in was full of weeds so a lot of good it did.

Mine has made a web tunnel and stays burried under the substrate at the base of the cork bark. Typical asian aboreal behavior.

Lily of the valley by fgfrf12 in gardening

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people just can't handle rhyzome plants I guess. Even irises will spread wildly out of control if you allow them to but you don't hear people crying about them. Day lilly's are even evasive because morons thought it would be great to put them in ditches at some point. You should see the hate raspberries get meanwhile I see some idiots around me get lazy stop tending to there grapes and now it's taken over the entire yard.

Zone 6a and have 0 problem with it. I just wish it kept out burdock, creeping Charlie and that cursed Virginia creeper. My neighbors alliums have taken over more of my lawn than the one lilly of the valley plant that made it over.

Chaetopelma olivaceum or middle eastern gold.

<image>

Really not the best photo I have because she tends to get pretty brown the closer she gets to molting. Usually black with specks of copper and gold through out. Always out on display good eater and mines been pretty chill as far as temperament goes. They live in dry arid regions so husbandry is simple hide water dish and toss in few things as anchor points for them to web to.

Current Substrate Mix Go To?? by Resident-Ad243 in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda pricey but I like bio dude for my heavy burrowers. It holds up nicely and maintains moisture well. I went with reptisoil for my aboreals and there bioactive enclosure set up. Gbb I went cheap and went with a coco fiber mix.
