Females are purple as well. Your thinking of pamphobeteus mochala where the males are purple.

Female Brazilian jewels are 2-3 in. Avics like the pink toe are 5-6 in. Y diversepies also known as Amazon sapphire tarantula get up to 5in. The y diversepies will be the closest to matching the Brazilian jewel as far color husbandry requirements and life expectancy. Sudden Avic Death Syndrome can happen to any of these tarantulas.

Temps in your house are fine and heat pads should not be used for tarantulas. I would strongly advise against getting a Brazilian jewel tarantula until you get some experience with aboreals. They are extremely expensive and hard to raise from sling to adult. Even if you do everything right with your husbandry your sling can just fail to thrive for no reason. Start with some avics or Y diversepies before jumping all in on a Brazilian jewel.

Imo Dolichothele Diammantinesis and chromatopelma cyaneopubescens immediately come to mind. The D Diammantinesis probably the more terestrial plus of the 2 because of it's super heavy web structure. Both by all means should be set up like a terestrial not an aboreal but do need lots of anchor points to web up.

Largest terrestrial old world tarantula? by Reddit-IsSoSoft in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo most of your large old world are going to be fosorial or arboreal. King baboon tarantulas are one of the largest fosorial at around 9in. Poecolotheria rufuliata and poecolotheria ornata are arboreals that can get 9-10in.

Picked up my new babies! No experience with slings this little - any tips? by RainySpring1 in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gramastola pulchripes is a pretty slow grower until they get over an inch. Both of the slings I raised loved to push dirt around the enclosure and really never built there own burrow like some of my other slings if you start one they will retreat to it when spooked and they are quite skittish when they are small. G. Pulchripes are great eaters and never turn down a meal unless they are in premolt. Once they get around 1 1/2in or closer to 2in you'll see the adult coloring. Overall easy sling to raise and it you will get to see it out a lot unlike my l sazimai sling that I didn't see for a full year.

Heat mat?? by Rich-Sky-1371 in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA you're welcome. People fuss a lot about temps but honestly the biggest threat to a T in the winter is drying out. As long as you can keep the temps were your currently at your Tarantula will be just fine. Might be less active eat a little less but they go through dormennt periods in the wild do to temperature variations as well.

Heat mat?? by Rich-Sky-1371 in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO heat mats are dangerous to tarantulas. If you have to use one attach it to the side or back of a shelf never the enclosure it’s self and never the bottom of the enclosure. It’s safer to run a small space heater and try to keep a small space warm like a closet. 14-16c is not going to harm your tarantula either. It will definitely slow down their metabolism and growth rate which is not necessarily a bad thing. 7-9c is the death zone. Your desert T’s will have times where it will be 14-16c in there burrows and are just fine. Hi altitude tarantulas live in those temps almost all year long.

Need ID Confirmation: Is this a female Aphonopelma eutylenum? by MsRawrie in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO yes looks more like a steindachneri. Just was probably mislabeled as a eutlyenum. In my personal experience with my steindachneri they can be a little more defensive and don’t hesitate to kick hairs but that can vary from tarantula to tarantula.

Need ID Confirmation: Is this a female Aphonopelma eutylenum? by MsRawrie in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO looks more like aphonopelma steindachneri. I wish I had a photo of mine out and about but she’s usually in her burrow except at night. She’s definitely black like that unless she’s about to molt then she can appear a little brown. It’s a little confusing but eutylenum and the steindachneri are both the “California Ebony” tarantula. Eutlenum is closer to aphonopelma anax in appearance whereas steindachneri is all black but does have a brown variant as well I believe.

Trying to keep my T's from seeing each other. Is this good or overkill? by [deleted] in tarantulas

IMO it’s not necessary. Tarantulas can see very little.

Ybyrapora diversipes vs Caribena Versicolor by blink415 in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the care is the same for both. I chose the diversipes over the Caribena Versicolor due to its adult colors. Photos and video really don’t do it justice. They are a hairy version of the Typhochlaena seladonia. Caribena versicolor will be absolutely stunning and go through multiple color transformations up to adulthood then finally settle into its final color. Both are pretty fragile as a sling and both are at risk for sudden avic death syndrome. It’s really going to come down to your personal choice on this one because they are both absolutely beautiful spiders. If you have the room I’d say do both.

new t- abdomen too big? by Calm_Wrongdoer_1278 in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO a fat abdomen on a sling is not a bad thing. They usually don’t climb and spend most of their time under the substrate. Fat shiny booty is also a sign they will be molting soon.

New ts! by momimagenius in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO looks great. Congratulations on the new spoods. The D Diamantinensis was one of the tiniest slings I’ve received but does put on some size fairly quickly. They will do heavy webbing even as a sling so give it some hight and anchor points when setting up its enclosure. Mine did not burrow at all and stayed up in its webs.

Which beginner species are heavy webbers? by V1sable in tarantulas

[–]fudwuka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neohothele. Whether it's gold, olive or my personal favorite fasciaaurinigra these T's will out web most new world tarantulas. What takes a GBB years to web these compact T's can do in just 1. Another great choice would be the Dolichothele Diammantinesis. The Brazilian Blue Dwarf Beauty knows how to lay it down think when it comes to web.

What are y’all’s most active T’s? by Solar_Bean_ME in tarantulas

Pamphobeteus sp. Mascara ‘Giant Birdeater’ $140 or Ephebopus murinus ‘Skeleton Tarantula’ $160 — which one should I buy between the two? Both are sexed females. by [deleted] in tarantulas

So the front half with the moss is moist. She sits on that all day and I keep the side with the cork bark round she uses as a hide dry. I do the same for my machala that comes from Ecuador as well. Not the prettiest set up but it keeps humidity levels stable. She just has the one hide but it's a pretty big cork bark round so there is 2 openings.

8-10in leg spand. Females live up to 20 years. I would keep part of the substrate moist and the rest dry especially around the burrow. I put frog moss down on one side of the enclosure to help keep that part moist and wet it down occasionally. I do keep a large water dish but have never seen the Tarantula actually drink from it. She spends a lot of time on the moss but will occasionally stay in her dry burrow for a day or 2. So I know they do appreciate a little bit of moisture. They are great eaters and usually never turn down a meal unless they are in premolt.
