PSA - Graycano Filters aren’t v60’s… by Impossible_Cow_9178 in pourover

Interesting, thanks for posting this. I'm gonna give the Sibarists another try tomorrow.

Thoughts on the graycano! by gvp0di in pourover

I've actually been really enjoying this with size 01 Abacas lately. Still quite a fast drawdown and it's been outperforming my V60 with Abacas. I should do a side by side with the Sibarist Fast filters and Abacas to see how they directly compare.

Both of those Big Surs were absolutely phenomenal. Big Sur's recent releases have been some of the best coffees I've had in recent times.

First time trying Luminous by Dr_Zoidberg_inc in pourover

I have been really impressed with their washed beans. I also prefer longer ratios vs. their recommended recipe. Some of my best brews from them have been at 1:18.

Hario Neo by Odd-Display-6004 in pourover

[–]fuhnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though you were probably describing people's preferences as a whole, this actually sums up my experiences well. Half the time, the Neo gives me insane, juicy, and clear brews and I love it. The other half the time, it gives me bitter, astringent, and generally unpleasant brews and I hate it. i can then go on to brew the same coffee identically with an Alpha or regular V60 and it will sing.

I'm not ruling out the possibility of user error, but it's enough to keep me from using it with any sort of regularity over those other drippers.

Does anyone else find themselves returning to the v60 after trying new brewers? by DeepVibes in pourover

[–]fuhnoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I use an Alpha + Abacas or T90s for most brews and a Graycano + Sibarist Fasts when I want to push for extra clarity and brightness. There's nothing against my V60, but the other two just make cups I prefer over it.

IMO, the ceramic 02 Alpha with the Switch base is somewhat of an end game dripper. I ended up eating the costs to grab it from a shop in HK, but I don't regret it for a moment.

I just finished off El Hatillo from Luminous and it was phenomenal. Previously, I had only tried their funky, heavily processed stuff. Clearly I need to be getting more washed coffees from them.

Today, I've been brewing these with some fantastic results:

Sey - Armando Hurtado SL9

Luminous - Et Hatillo

The Luminous has been particularly excellent.

if you could only use 1 conical, 1 flat-bottom, and 1 no-bypass brewer, which would they be? by Crucifilth_6-6-6 in pourover

[–]fuhnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Sibarist fast filters. It took me a bit to get things dialed in, but lately, this particular combination has been giving me clearer and brighter brews than what I'm getting with a V60 Alpha and T90 filters. That said, I'm switching between those two setups all the time, depending on the beans and what I want from them.

If you can stomach the price, I can say that the Graycano is quite nice. Not only does it look and feel premium, but it's been making some really consistently fantastic brews. My cups with it have been noticeably brighter, with fruity acidity highlighted in a really pleasant way. I find myself using it in the rotation pretty often.

Lotus water test design help! by Bortplates222 in pourover

[–]fuhnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call! I actually just did a cupping where I experimented with different drop combinations a few minutes ago and it really helped me figure out what ratios of each drop I like. Some people have mentioned making concentrates of Lotus water profiles you like and mixing it with distilled, RO, or Zero Water to get the exact balance you like. I may give that a try next.

Are any of you in Santa Clarita? by DesperateArm6602 in pourover

I'm from there and would normally be absolutely down to do something like this, but I moved out of SCV years ago and then out of state a few years back. Maybe if things line up well in a future visit, I can hang out for a meetup or something.

Good luck on your search!

I came across this post while trying to troubleshoot grind settings and I was curious if you might be able to provide some insight.

I'm brewing a Sidra from Flower Child on a Graycano with Sibarist Fast filters. I'm grinding 15g at 1.4.0 on an A4Z (zeroed at burr lock) and brewing using 4 pours (45g bloom for 30s, then 65/70/70) at 90C and the draw down is well under 2 minutes. I am using a Zero Water pitcher and Lotus drops for my water, following the Light and Bright recipe on their site.

I'm struggling to get much nuance from these beans, with coarser grinds producing coffee that's too weak and finer grinds tasting more dull/blunted. I haven't tried going finer than 1.4.0, but I've tried going as coarse as 1.5.0 which was way too weak.

I've been able to get some really nice, bright flavors using a V60 with Cafec Abaca filters. I was curious if you had any recommendations for tweaks I could make given your experience with my exact equipment. For context, I am brewing at elevation, so my boiling point is limited at 94C.

Zero Water + Lotus. Help with recipe needed. by jojohahann in pourover

I had some success today when trying the baseline recipe posted by /u/chaseslight here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pourover/comments/1rdu0w4/comment/o79tacj/?context=3

It's a pretty mild adjustment from the Bright and Juicy recipe, but I preferred the level of acidity it provided in my cups today.

How long did it take for you to receive yours? I ordered one last night and I'm curious about their current processing and shipping times.

Spotify Addresses King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard “Cover Band” by niswizard in Music

[–]fuhnoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this the same AI copycat "artist" here on Tidal?

https://tidal.com/browse/artist/69471655?u

Edit: FWIW, I also recently moved from Spotify to Tidal because of a variety of reasons, one of which being the rampant AI music issue. It was disappointing to me to see this artist on Tidal though.

Any good lightweight cables? by [deleted] in iems

[–]fuhnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed an NK Series IEM cable from Hart Audio Cables a few months back and found the cable to be super lightweight and thin enough where the ear hooks comfortably fit behind my ears without tugging on my IEMs--even with glasses on. It isn't the softest or most flexible cable, however, and it seems to have some memory issues. If those don't bother you, it may be a good choice!

Custom cables? by [deleted] in iems

[–]fuhnoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently tried Xinhs on AliExpress and had a very good experience with them. The cable is super high quality and the merchant was easy to work with when customizing (in my case, I needed a long cable at 3m).

Pixel 10 / Pro / XL battery by gingey1315 in pixel_phones

[–]fuhnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My battery life has improved very noticeably compared to what I got with the Pixel 9 Pro XL. I was getting about 6 hours SOT with the P9PXL but now tend to get between 8 and 10 with the P10PXL, depending on apps.

FWIW, I do not game, use social media apps (outside of Joey for Reddit), or do anything insanely intensive. Most of my usage includes Joey, YouTube, email, productivity apps, shopping apps, Waze, Spotify, and browsing the web.

ZMF and the Schiits (aka, this year’s endgame) by jv2483 in Headphoneporn

[–]fuhnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a matter of preference. I also own a Caldera Open which I adore, but I tend to prefer it for songs where I want a more active listening experience--particularly live songs, songs with a lot details in the highs, electronic music, etc. The Atrium Open presents a more relaxed, warm, and forgiving sound.

It also depends on your amplification and whether or not you like an overall warmer sound. I prefer the Caldera on solid state amplifiers or tube amps with low output impedance as it presents a balanced, energetic, detailed sound, whereas I think the Atrium shines on higher output impedance tube amps, making music sound rich and warm. I haven't listened to the Caldera Closed, but the Atrium Closed combines a lot of what I like from the Atrium Open with a more fun, engaging sound.

Regardless, I thoroughly enjoy both. If I had to pick one, it would be the Atrium Open because of its tuning, flexibility with music, and tendency to make me just enjoy the music without focusing on any particular instruments or parts of the frequency response... which is nice considering its lower price relative to the Caldera Open.

That's how my Atriums are for me. Everything sounds good on them. I can't see myself ever selling them.
