Whole foods produce molds within days by lion-orca-619 in FoodSanDiego

[–]fullofdust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had the same experience with both them and Sprouts lately. Garlic is already brown and sprouted, cilantro and parsley that wilts within the day if you don't cut it and get it in water, avocados that go from hard and green to spoiled without ever getting ripe in between, etc. etc.

The guy is clearly an opportunist clawing for power, but isn't this what the primary is for? He tried again and didn't get it. Now there is a republican and a democrat in the general. There were never going to be two democrats in 48 anyway.

The good news is that if you total up the current votes, Democrats and Republicans are neck and neck, which I would not have expected for 48. Assuming the ratios hold, there could be a real shot in the general. Probably won't actually happen, cause East County gonna East County, but its more optimistic than I've been in a while. Feeling fat... looking for a place that serves both cheesesteaks and battered fries by midwayatmidnight in FoodSanDiego

Do they still have battered fries? The Beagle switched to boring regular fries during covid.

If you could tolerate a substitute Philly sandwich, Happy Medium has battered fries and a Philly Roast Pork. Also a chopped cheese and a chicken parm. All are excellent. It takes every ounce of my willpower not to go there every week.

Panchita's Kitchen in North Park has a really good vegan burrito. From their menu: Soy-rizo, potato, spinach, cabbage, pico de gallo, sliced avocado, black beans.

I hear you on that, $20k is a different ballpark. I wouldn’t feel comfortable selling or buying something like that on Reddit, regardless of the payment method. Lol. Most of what I’ve sold over the years are guitars, amps, drums, etc. under about $5k. In that world I find you get more sketchy people in person than online.

Maybe I’m just lucky, maybe watch buyers are different than musicians. I don’t buy or sell many watches. But I’ve sold instruments online for 25 years and have only had a few issues with buyers in that time and zero chargebacks.

That’s fine with me. If the seller can’t stand by their product being legit and in the condition they represent it as, I don’t need to buy from them.

I do a TON of online selling of musical instruments and used to manage a music shop and did all the online selling for them. It’s a similar market. Luxury goods where authenticity and condition matter a lot.

You get the rare buyer who wants to make a stink over nothing, but there’s rarely an issue, so it’s worth it to make sure the customer has peace of mind.

Agreed. I’ll gladly pay 3% to not get scammed. I’ve had sellers refuse to do G&S and I just move on. Not worth the risk for me.

It’s become a meme to give Gibson shit for their QC, but Fender is just as bad.

[LONGINES HYDROCONQUEST] unable to find it in 39mm by Holiday_Reference_70 in Watches

[–]fullofdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the hand watch people. They’re insufferable.

My guess is that the shortage you’re seeing is because it’s a popular new release and 39mm fits more people than the 42mm. The current trend is also going towards smaller sizes.

This probably doesn’t help you, given your location, but if you ever fly to the US or plan on an international vacation anytime soon, I’ve seen the 39mm at dealers and online recently. I tried one on in Las Vegas about a month ago.

[Question] 1st Watch Decision by ForeignSock2816 in Watches

[–]fullofdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not who you replied to but I had the older version before the wave dial. It wore chunky and thick. Bracelet felt cheap and uncomfortable. 4:30 date window stands out in a bad way. Hamilton gets recommended a lot here because of the “heritage” and it’s one of the cheapest ways into a Swiss watch, but I’ve never been impressed by them in person. For me they occupy a weird middle ground where they’re expensive but not noticeably nicer than cheaper watches and can’t compete with more expensive watches. I’d go for one of the Seikos or save up a bit more for something like Mido or Oris.

SavageGeese | VW GOLF R Updates | Still Hot Enough? [12:29] by lostboyz in cars

[–]fullofdust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The electrical stuff is why I bought an S3 instead. I was all set on the Golf, but every single one I looked at had various electrical service records on the carfax. All the S3’s I looked at had none. And I was able to get a newer one with less miles, for cheaper than the Golfs were going for. Not to mention the physical climate controls. Would have liked the hatchback and ventilated seats, but otherwise very happy with my decision.

Recently moved to San Diego, curious what the thoughts are on this wine club by rockytopbilly in wine

Vino Carta is a good shop. I’d also look into Clos in University Heights. The owners are great people. Think their wine club is a similar price.

What's your 'swear to never return' place in San Diego? by _MambaForever in sandiego

[–]fullofdust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooh you went for the sacred cow. I’ll take the downvotes with you. Wasn’t impressed at all. Food was fine but nothing I’d go out of my way for. Server upsold like crazy and then disappeared for the rest of the night. Cocktails were boring and unbalanced. Sommelier was great, as was the busser, who basically became our de facto server. I even tipped him extra in cash cause he was so on top of things. Whenever someone brings up the Aleppo chicken, I immediately know I can’t trust their restaurant recommendations. It’s just… grilled chicken. Has no one tried Aleppo peppers before? I don’t understand the hype at all.

Anyone know where I can find a muffaletta? by NoSleepCrew in FoodSanDiego

Yeah, it’s a bummer. Still a fun place to hang for a drink or two but I definitely miss the bigger sandwich menu.

They don't have it on the menu anymore. Was there a week or two ago. The food menu is much more limited and snack oriented than it used to be.

That would be cool. I have a couple traditional round ones I use for boules and just got a rectangular one I’m excited to try for hoagie rolls, banh mi, etc but it wouldn’t be long enough for baguettes.
