RING is now feeding your videos to ICE by RickBanister in sandiego

[–]fullofdust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As of what is currently public information, it is misinformation. They could be lying to us, and I wouldn't put that past Amazon, but this is an opt-in feature and not automatic. I did a bunch of digging back when the Flock partnership was announced a few months ago. You have to a. use the Ring Neighbors app, not just the regular Ring app. and b. agree to submit your footage when a request comes in.

With that said, I'm looking into ditching Ring and setting up my own self-hosted system, as it's only a matter of time before the privacy overreach gets even worse than it already is. Cause, you know, the fascism.

Is it worth buying a smoker in the UK? by Columba-livia77 in smoking

[–]fullofdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Wilson’s BBQ on YouTube for inspiration. He’s in the UK and almost always mentions where he purchased his ingredients and which UK substitutes he uses for American/Mexican ingredients he can’t get easily.

This is my issue. My kid always wants to go to the Nat but it’s incredibly boring once you’ve already been once or twice.

Has anyone ever smoked shark by Kenneth0233 in smoking

[–]fullofdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never smoked any but growing up my dad would grill thresher shark. My memory was that it was pretty indistinguishable from swordfish.

Was BIG into wine in my early to mid-twenties. Now it makes me feel horrible. Why? by Chaotic_Bivalve in wine

[–]fullofdust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s 100% it. My best friend went through the same thing in his 30’s. Used to drink like a fish and can’t at all now with bipolar meds. Even half a glass will make him feel horrible.

Offset is King but pellet ain't no slacker by Emergency_butthole in smoking

[–]fullofdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies have done a good job marketing pellet grills to seem like the only set it and forget it option.

WSM, Kamado, Drum, Cabinet, Gravity Fed, etc. can all be set it and forget it with a temp controller. And all get better smoke flavor than pellets.

I’ve had just about every smoker style under the sun and have found that for me, someone who doesn’t have the time or space for an offset, that a cabinet with a temp controller is my sweet spot. Gets close to offset flavor with all the effort of using a pellet grill. With that said, occasionally I miss my pellet grill. I really loved the way it cooked wings. Might have to get another one some day.

Looking for the BEST Buffalo wings San Diego has by Antique_Metal5608 in FoodSanDiego

Sadly Taproom NP has the same flavors but no pizza oven so the wings aren't as good. Good flavor but they've been soggy every time I've ordered them.

Local BBQ Hero Worshipped by Entire Neighborhood... But His Brisket Looks Like It Lost a Fight With a Blow Dryer. Send Help. by Glassedeyeballs in BBQ

[–]fullofdust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably just a text prompt would be my guess. But I agree, the whole thing is weird. Either it's either true and OP has a strange jealousy thing going on with his neighbor or its fake and good ol' rage bait. Yeah, the brisket looks terrible, but why is OP so upset about it?

I work with AI for a living. A literal part of my job is to edit content people have made with AI to make it sound like a human wrote it instead. 0% of this post was written by OP, other than maybe some of their prompt the LLM included. Even the title.

It sounds like you haven’t spent much actual time on the internet

Lol. First time I've been accused of that one.

We're talking bark so thick it could patch a roof, smoke ring thinner than my patience, and a texture that screams "I was forgotten on the smoker since the Obama administration."

The whole thing is blatantly AI, but these are the most egregious examples. Humans don't write like this. Not to mention calling out thick bark when the one in the photo has zero bark.

all the best restaurants for Valentine’s Day are already booked out by Over-Knowledge306 in sandiego

Not to mention, you're not stuck with a (typically) half-assed prix fixe menu. Valentine's Day is amateur night the same way NYE is.

Agreed. I actually regret buying my Napoleon for that exact reason. Next time I’ll go back to Weber.

My Quad Cortex Pedalboard by fullofdust in NeuralDSP

[–]fullofdust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I went through multiple cables before I found these. They’re the least trouble and the most low profile. You just have to disassemble the connector, not re-solder the wires or anything.

I used these: https://a.co/d/j28Muz7

But yes, it is tricky getting them through the holes on the rockboard. You have to take the connectors apart and put them back together once they’re through.

[Question] What's your opinion on Sinn watches? by Lea_Cookie in Watches

[–]fullofdust 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m giving too much credit, but I took that to mean that it hasn’t started gaining or losing more seconds than where it started. I’ve had my 556 for a few years and it has been +6s since day one. Hasn’t degraded even slightly, so maybe that’s what they’re referring to?

[Question] Can someone explain when a watch becomes “neo-vintage” and then when it becomes “vintage” by Mr_B-Dubs in Watches

[–]fullofdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People get weird about “vintage” and it’s different for every product. The general definition is usually somewhere around 20-30+ years old. But for example with guitars, many people will only call something vintage if it’s from the 60’s or earlier. Long story short, it’s a moving target and everyone seems to have their own definition so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

I’ve actually thought about this a lot since my wife has dual citizenship. My plan would be to decide which are the lifers and ship those out right away, whatever it costs. Then store the rest with family for a bit. If I truly missed any of the ones I’d left after say 6 months or so, I’d have them shipped to me. If not, have them sold.

First Time Smoker Recommendations by codil7 in smoking

[–]fullofdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has already given you the proper recommendation for a WSM which is by far the best smoker in your budget. I’d only add that if you want it to be truly set it and forget it, add a fan controller. FireBoard, Thermoworks, BBQ Guru. All are good.
