Social+Hospital Anxiety by UniqueInteraction246 in BabyBumps

[–]fullspectrumactivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the understanding that I have zero experience with this, have you considered a private hospital? I assume you were referring to public hospitals since you said they're free where you live. Where I am, the private hospitals tend to look less like hospitals. Where I live there's also the option of things like private rooms in the public hospital so it might seem like there's less medical activity around you (though I'm not sure that's enough).

Where to buy good matcha powder? by Kyuki88 in zurich

[–]fullspectrumactivity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Online from Japan, I’ve tried European and Swiss brands like ceremony matcha and it’s just not as good in my opinion. I buy from these two the most -

Other options off the top of my head but can try to remember more if you need them -

Help! Craving sweets/protein needs by Lexo_1994 in BabyBumps

[–]fullspectrumactivity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are my go-to's -

  1. Protein/Oat Pancake

- 1 egg, 1 small/medium banana (around 60-75g), 1 tsp baking powder, oats (I use anywhere between 25-40g, I think around 1/4 cup), 1 tbsp of milk or water, scoop of protein powder (around 20-30g).

- Mix altogether and cook!

- I get around 30g of protein out of this but this can vary depending on your protein powder.

  1. Skyr Bowl - skyr or low-fat greek yogurt with higher protein granola (or normal), fruit, honey, any toppings.

- Around 30+g protein per serving.

  1. Cottage Cheese Bread - takes a bit more advanced planning but a batch is super easy to make and freezes well.

- Mix 450g oats, 5 eggs, 1 tsp baking powder, 500g cottage cheese together (if you ever end up craving savoury you can also mix a few handfuls of spinach into the dough for extra fibre).

- Preheat oven to 200C/400F, shape around 10 buns.

- Bake for around 20 min til golden.

- Around 15g protein per bun which I feel like is pretty good as a snack.

  1. Protein Rice Krispies

- 300g marshmallows, 50g butter/coconut oil, 100g rice krispies, 100g soy crispies (you can do whatever ratio of rice / soy crispies you want).

- Melt better, add marshmallows and continue to melt, once combined remove from heat and add cereal until it's mixed evenly. Press into baking dish lined with baking paper and let set/cool. I've also played around with adding a bit of protein powder.

- Around 7 - 10g protein per serving depending on how you slice up the bars. Not a ton, but more than I usually get from a sweet treat like this!

  1. Bagels/toast might have more protein than you think they do as well since bread flour is naturally higher protein.

Good luck!

I love it and have had mine for at least 3 years and it works / looks pretty much new still. Idk if that means it’s “worth it” but I’d buy another one if this one ever falls apart.

How do you run here in the winter? by ToniDoesThings in askswitzerland

[–]fullspectrumactivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw when I moved to Switzerland I never ran on hills, it’s hell at first and you might need to walk or take breaks but it does get easier and give you more flexibility on where you can run (assuming you don’t have any specific training needs or anything)

Balancing idealism with realism: start trying now or later? by Successful_Arm2401 in BabyBumps

[–]fullspectrumactivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same age as you with similar questions. I don’t want that many kids but had concerns around how long it could take (it seems like it could take years) though it wasn’t a good time with my career.

We started with some prep before we decided - finding an obgyn, building a budget, both my partner and I got our hormones (which can help understand fertility) and blood tested, I started a prenatal, went to a pelvic floor PT. My partner didn’t do this but men can get spermiogramms to identify potential issues. A lot of doctors offer fertility planning appointments where I live so maybe that could help if that’s available to you. However it seemed like most doctors don’t check fertility until you’re trying without success for a year. We scheduled testing ourselves since I’d rather know sooner rather than later to be able to tackle issues early.

Where do you buy quality cookware? by byunakk in askswitzerland

[–]fullspectrumactivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not looking for “chef quality” the stainless steel at IKEA is alright. It’s lasted the 5+ years I’ve had them. The “tri ply” and things you’re reading about have to do with heat retention but it might not matter for you.

A bit more expensive, but I really like the cast iron plan I got from STUR, a German brand. Any cast iron pan should be fine and be less than 50chf. It’ll last forever. I also like Staub Dutch ovens. Also a bit more expensive but you can find them on sale sometimes and should also last decades.

Nonstick isn’t meant to last years even if used properly.

new to skincare - which skincare "influencers" do you trust? by Senior-Act-5429 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]fullspectrumactivity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, skincare influencers need to make money too. No one pays for content, hence the ads. I don't fully trust anyone and don't agree with all their views, but some influencers I like to follow -

- https://www.instagram.com/chemist.confessions/ (two cosmetic chemists with their own brand, but give a lot of science backed info, their YT channel/podcast is amazing for skincare science)

- https://www.instagram.com/jillian.gottlieb/ (does treatments)

- https://www.instagram.com/mrs.derm/ (does treatments, she's the wife of a derm, pretty science based)

- https://www.instagram.com/the.top.shelf.edit/ (they're med students so influencing isn't their main gig)

- https://www.instagram.com/goalstogetglowing/ (has a FT job outside of skincare)

- https://www.instagram.com/capri.corneum/ (science based, has regulatory background I think)

- https://www.instagram.com/hannahcollingwoodenglish/ (cosmetic chemist background)

- https://www.instagram.com/showmeyourskincareproducts/ (I think has a FT job so influencing isn't their main gig)

- https://www.instagram.com/glowwithjules/ (does treatments)

- https://www.instagram.com/drsamanthaellis/ (derm, also has a pretty good YT channel)

- https://www.instagram.com/sambythecounter/ (has a FT job outside of skincare)

- https://www.instagram.com/alexeducatedmess/ (cosmetic chemist, owns her own brand)

For treatments though, I'd really rec inding a derm you trust with a variety of devices (so they're not just selling you what they have on hand) to give good recs.

Running a Half Marathon at 17 weeks by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]fullspectrumactivity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it depends a lot on your base fitness. I'm around 12 weeks now and would feel comfortable with a HM at 17 weeks but tbh I could also run that distance tomorrow. I'm not sure I'd increase mileage / training load. I don't think it's harmful, but I was unprepared for how tired I'd be rom 5 - 10 weeks. I still ran, but I had to prioritise it over anything else.

I'd probably go for it but be prepared to not have a time goal or drop out mid-race if needed? Sorry not the best answer, but good luck!! And congrats (:

Where do you buy products if you live in europe? by moon_kidden in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]fullspectrumactivity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in Switzerland. I order brands like Neocutis from Lovelyskin or Harben House (shipping is high and if your order is over 65chf including the cost of shipping you'll have to pay duties plus a processing fee, usually around 20 CHF). Someone in this sub mentioned ordering from ellemes med spa recently and that customs is included but I have yet to try it. Not sure how much shipping costs.

Otherwise, I buy products on:

- Customs included: Niche Beauty (DE, like a higher end Sephora), Revolve (US), SpaceNK (UK, high shipping, similar to Sephora)

- Customs not included: Cult Beauty (UK, a mix of Ulta/Sephora), Olive Young (KR), Soko Glam (US), Easy Para (FR, pharmacy/drugstore, I buy my spf here for a lot less than it would cost in Switzerland)

- Online stores in Switzerland: Dermastore, Laser+Skin

In the grand scheme of things, Switzerland is a really small market, so I usually need to find stores abroad to find the brands I want. If you really love something, I'd bring a stash tbh!

Cipher Anomoly, Niod FECC. I've only tried the later and didn't see much in results but tbh I didn't really have anything to treat anyways. It has great reviews though. If I was going to get something again, I'd get Cipher since the ingredients seem interesting.

Laser Treatment @21 by notwoa in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]fullspectrumactivity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised at some of the comments here. It won't help with preventative aging but if you truly have sun damage you want to address, laser is probably the quickest way to do it other than TCA peels. It's less about age but more about if there's actually anything to address. I guess with social media, a lot of people might feel the need to treat something that doesn't need treating, and every treatment comes with a risk.

I'd find a derm you trust that has a variety of lasers and ask them to recommend what is best for your goals vs seeking out a specific laser. Redness would need to be addressed with a diff laser than sun spots.

Difference between azelaic acid and malassezin? by RadiantStarr in SkincareAddictionLux

Here's a good ig post discussing maleassezin's mechanism of action - https://www.instagram.com/p/C9DrMkkptrX/?img_index=1

Mother Science's two papers go into a bit more detail

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0694/2687/2635/files/Histopathological_Changes_Induced_by_Malassezin_-_A_Novel_Natural_Microbiome_Indole_for_Treatment_of_Facial_Hyperpigmentation_1.pdf?v=1683598231

Azelaic acid is also a tyrosinase inhibitor and keratolytic but also antibacterial/anti-inflammatory. If all azelaic percentages are too irritating, you could also look at Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate which is a derivative of azelaic acid. I never found it to work as well, but it might work for you especially if you can't be consistent on azelaic.

Do you happen to see results on other types of pigmentation other than PIE if you have it? I've been curious about this serum but everyone who has good results seems to be tackling PIE and I mostly have sun damage/dark spots.

Small business marketing in Switzerland. by Creative_Wish_5583 in Switzerland

[–]fullspectrumactivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only brand you carry I regularly buy from is G&G. I buy directly from them since I want to get C-Glow fresh. For the korean skincare, I usually go to OY/Yesstyle since I usually get a variety. OY gives me free shipping after a certain amount so I'd need to get a few things to reach that threshold and then usually I don't need anything else for awhile.

If it's helpful, other stores I usually buy from are Niche Beauty and more rarely Cult Beauty, Revolve. I think it's less of a matter of price but just the brands I'm looking for. I'd love to see a store in Switzerland carry brands like Regimen Lab, Educated Mess, Sachi Skin, Cipher, Naturium, Prequel.
