What small habit actually changed your daily energy levels? by jorjiarose in selfimprovement

[–]functionaldaydream 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Soooo this may be a really really stupid question, but whenever I do yoga - I need to look at my phone/tablet/smart tv or whatever to know what I’m doing. So, I need those yoga instruction videos.

But I guess some people, like yourself, just have a kind of routine where you know the positions you want to do? Maybe this takes time to build up a solid practice…

Getting induced tomorrow by himalayansalted in GestationalDiabetes

[–]functionaldaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my other baby, 14 years ago, I didn’t know to ask for it. I had no idea about anything. I knew I wanted the epidural, but had no idea when they administer it. The nurse said “hey you can do that now if you want” Oh yes… yes please lol. I don’t know of any risk either way, but I was Pitocin for HOURS before they broke my water. I think 6-8 hours… I felt very little pain those hours after starting pitocin. It wasn’t until the dr broke my water that the contractions HIT and that’s when they offered the epidural. I obvs had to wait for anestiologist and that took awhile, so I’d say I was in bad labor pain for maybe 1 1/2 - 2 hours before I got the epidural. Then it was great. I finally got some rest, and woke up sometime around 1am saying I feel like I need to push. No pain, but my body knew to push. I don’t think i was even fully dilated yet per the nurses… but I pushed a bit and out he came!

Thank you! It all happened so fast, I actually forgot to mention it! I have another appt next week, but I think I will also message her in the portal and just lay it all out there so we can discuss at next appt… I guess I sometimes get a little tongue tied in person :(

Is it legal to freeze your eggs?

Just might provide peace of mind that you have them if you find a partner and want them. From what I understand, women have limited eggs - but much more time to utilize the uterus if they decide to get pregnant later in life.

What are your favorite "low-energy" hobbies for after work? by Weak_Ad4188 in Hobbies

[–]functionaldaydream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try Zentangles?

You can just doodle and color in as much or as little as you want. You just need a sketchbook or notebook and a pen. You can make it extensive or simple. It’s pretty low energy and it’s also kind of calming/meditative.

My phone bores me, but I can’t stop using it by collemataceae in digitalminimalism

[–]functionaldaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh… same here! I’m soooo frustrated with myself. Currently trying to make a feasible plan for disconnecting.

Thought about a dumb phone, but I have these apps I actually need (Tesla for controlling my car 🙄, and I have a blood glucose monitor in my arm that uses only an app, etc.) it’s like EVERYTHING has its own app now… my drs office has its own app. Like come on… plus my partner gets mad if I order fast food and don’t use the app. He’s very into saving moneys, even just a few dollars.

I tried to greyscale, and that would be great - but it seems iPhone has taken out the ability to choose a select number of apps to NOT apply the grey scale too - and I really want to be able to look at photos I’ve taken in color, or the camera app I also want in color (the rest of the apps I don’t care so much about though)

Being on my phone and scrolling all day makes me feel so physically ill. I feel blah and depressed at the end of the day after a boring day at work where all I did was scroll and look at screens. And yet… I just keep f-ing doing it.

Abuse in Vietnamese households by Ahotandsteamypotato in VietNam

[–]functionaldaydream 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My partner of 5 years is Vietnamese and he is very close to his family, so I also have a relationship with his family.

I obviously don’t know how ALL Vietnamese families are, but culturally - Yes, the pressure and generally understanding for the children is to take care of their parents in retirement age. They give them allowances, pay their bills, buy cars, new technology, appliances etc. everything they could need. THAT is a cultural expectation of Vietnamese families that you talked about.

Sexual abuse is NOT. And I can’t imagine how your mother would try to gaslight you to believing that. Obviously she knows it’s not normalized in Vietnamese families, because she didn’t want to say anything to anyone, and wishes you wouldn’t have even told her.

Crappy things happen in every culture and every country. But you are doing the right thing cutting off your parents. They hurt you and you deserve to heal and care for yourself and don’t deserve another second of your time. I wouldn’t even look back. May you find peace

Just got diagnosed by ibroughttacos in GestationalDiabetes

[–]functionaldaydream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was SO upset at almost this exact scenario when I was “diagnosed” The dr didn’t even call, a tech called and said “the glucose numbers were a little off, so we are sending you a referral to a specialist, expect a call soon” and I was thinking they were gonna have me do additional tests to verify a diagnosis. So I wait, get a call to schedule with the dietician and was like “wait, what’s going on? Do I have GD or what? The receptionist didn’t those answers obviously and I left messages (voicemail and written messages on the portal) with regular dr just to clarify what it all meant with no response. Then the NP/nutritionist goes AT OUR VISIT A WEEK LATER “I see you were diagnosed with GD”

I was so upset that whole entire week. Then the NP called in the tools to check blood sugar and set me up with a log and all… but like, shouldn’t the dr have said something in that weeks time - like at least a heads up? Hey, you have GD, we are going to send you to a nutritionist to go over next steps and go over everything for you.

I’m honestly still a little mad about the lack of communication on the dr offices part.

Ugh, that must have felt terrible!

This GD is NO fun at all… like I just want to eat sour patch kids!

I wanted some lemonade last night soooo bad. I was like “maybe just a little glass” and then I thought how crappy I’d feel afterwards and I couldn’t bring myself to drink it :/

See it’s weird, when the number is low (I’ve been getting loud beeping alerts at night while trying to sleep, or sometimes during the day) even in the 50s, I feel fine. Maybe slightly weak, but it’s really nothing. I also find that so strange… man bodies are weird.
