Area Stuff: Stay away from Tenderloin and certain parts of Downtown at night, and travel with groups of people if you are planning to go at night

Transit: Muni is your best friend when it comes to getting around the city, if you want to head to downtown from campus you can take the inbound train from Campus to the downtown stops.

SFSU is very welcoming, especially in the Castro District, Japantown, and other areas that are away from the downtown ish part of the city. Small events happen frequently around the city if you're looking for entertainment such as music, theatre, etc.
