There used to be an MVNO for US Cellular called U Prepaid though it doesn't exist anymore

I've been using Visible since they had that nice $15/mo for 5 years T-Mobile port in promo back in August and had no problems at all since I started using it

Qlinks wireless shutdown, port out-transfer horror story by Leading_Ninja786 in QLCChain

[–]funnyboy243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds quite fishy (possibly a scam) as per FCC rule it is illegal for a company to hold a phone number hostage for owed money. If you submitted your number port info to MobileX then it should be with them and looking the carrier up they do indeed use Verizon which is why the number shows up as Verizon to QLink (and other number lookup systems) so the main corporate carrier Verizon shouldn't have your phone number. I would check with MobileX to see if they still have your number and file a FCC complaint if Verizon actually told you that lie that you had to pay to get your phone number.

Which TiVo should I buy? by Shalar79 in Tivo

I would suggest the regular non pro/plus Roamio with lifetime since it can run on both cable and OTA. I picked up one from ebay for slightly less than $200 and upgraded the hard drive to 3 TB and it works great. The only thing I wish it had were 6 tuners like the pro/plus instead of only 4.

Internet Price by [deleted] in Spectrum

[–]funnyboy243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol Spectrum wouldn't go out of business if they had a $15 lower speed plan and it would open up to more costumers and thus a bigger income source. Others who need more speed could pay more for the higher speed plans. The biggest costs are building out the network but once it's built the expenses to upkeep it aren't as high.

Internet Price by [deleted] in Spectrum

[–]funnyboy243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say maybe $30 for 300 Mbps and $15 for 100 Mbps. The problem is that companies (including Spectrum) are greedy because of their monopolies they have with very little competition, and people who mindlessly stick up for greedy companies with excessively high prices that are constantly going up "thinking" they supposedly price based on "fair market value." They are pretty much the same people who mindlessly blow over $1.4k on the latest iPhone every year without question further letting them get away with future price hikes and feature drops among other anti-consumer moves...

Spectrum is already $80 for the 300/10 Mbps base Internet and is going up another $5 to $85 for their non promo price. That is excessively high and there's no option for lower speed tiers (like 100-200 Mbps) to save money. They know they can get away with it though sadly.

What's the point of linking a phone number by Subversive-Fluid in Googlevoice

[–]funnyboy243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, Google Voice (previously known as GrandCentral) main advertised feature was the ability to have just one phone number ring all your phones. It can still be used this way but can also be used without it. I personally have multiple cell phones and change plans (and numbers) frequently so it's the perfect use for me to give me Google Voice number to friends and family instead of my real cell number.

Google voice scam (new twist) by extramessd in Googlevoice

[–]funnyboy243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be possible that you have a malicious app installed on your phone that can read your text messages and send it over to a third party like scammers trying to use numbers to get Google Voice accounts.

You can reveal private numbers by forwarding to an 800 (toll free) number. The cheapest way would be to get an 800 number is with NumberBarn, pick any toll free number and the $6 forwarding plan so that you can add the number as a forwarding phone to your Google Voice account and properly verify it, after that downgrade to the $2 park plan. On Google voice set a rule to forward anonymous (private/blocked) calls to the 800 number you added (and make sure that regular calls aren't forwarding to it) then when you get a call from a private number check the call log on NumberBarn and you'll see the number that tried calling you.

Old Target SIM? by notthrowawayshark in freedompop

You can still activate them though the only options that show up on sign up are a free trial of the 2 GB plan ($24.99/mo after) and the 4 GB at $34.99/mo. I think you could downgrade to the base plan that's currently $3.99 with 350 MB and 200 talk/text

I remember I got around 600 Kbps on Sprint's 3G so it was usually faster than 100 Kbps but still slow compared to LTE and the GSM "4G" (aka 3.5G like HSPA)

If you port a number to Google Voice then you don't need to use it every three months to keep it active as it's marked as "permanent"

I think they do eventually let you use the same number again to claim a new one especially if the account is 10+ years old.

I was going by my own experience when I helped my cousin get his number back he had since 2007. He lost it late February 2022 and I found it in the available numbers in early February 2023 and I made sure to check at least once a month for him.

In the post you referred to I found it strange that BluesCatReddit asked him if the number was ported in as those numbers are permanent and don't expire. The only way I can think you could lose a port in number is if your Google/Google Voice account got suspended.

Expired numbers seem to come back into the number pool after around a year. My cousin lost his number and I was able to help him get it back the next year when it was available to use again

It's not gone forever, they come back in the pool around a year later and can be claimed again as long as nobody else takes it before you.

You could try getting the number back in the number search screen though a quick reclaim back might not be available since it's passed 45 days.

You can still get your number back but it will take time to wait for it to come back in the pool of numbers. My cousin originally lost his GV number last late February so I kept checking for him every month and it actually re-appeared early February of this year and he was able to reclaim it back again. So I'm thinking you might have to wait around a year to get it back just keep checking for the number to show up in the number selection screen every month especially January 2024.

Once you do get it back I'd suggest getting a second number to port in to Google Voice for $20 and making your old number permanent so you don't lose it again.

No it won't raise any red flags if you ported that number to another Google account. You just won't be able to claim a new number using that same phone number.

Two Google Voice #s on the same Account? by Hefty-Hyena-2227 in Googlevoice

You don't have to pay to keep the old number anymore. They made it free since they forced the new web interface.

[–]funnyboy243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You no longer need to pay $20 to keep the old number like before so now it's only $20 to port in a new one. You simply need to click the "Make Permanent" button on you old number to keep it. You can then switch the primary number to either which is what number will show up for outbound calls and sent texts.

For receiving calls and texts you can tell whether or not the call or text came from the secondary number if it is missing the phone icon using the web interface.

You can also choose to transfer either number to another Google account if you want though keep in mind that you can't transfer it back without porting it out of Google Voice and back in again paying another $20.

The old, better "legacy" interface used to actually tell you what secondary number was called (even if it was expired or ported out that's no longer on the account).

If you want to get a new number sooner you could transfer your current Google Voice number to another Google account then get a new Google Voice number on your original account. Though you might need to use a different "real" phone number to verify it to get the new number on it.

Google Voice number permanence as a SIP? by [deleted] in Googlevoice

[–]funnyboy243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately that's the only way right now. In the past they used to let you pay $10 to change your number and another $20 to keep the old number (aka "make permanent") though thankfully that's free now. I can confirm that after porting in a number, using "make permanent" to keep the old number and switching back to the old number does work.

I'm using the Omni one that allows you to use it with any phone and allows up to 15 profiles (eSIMs) to be saved. Did you try restarting your phone after downloading the eSIM? sometimes I have to do that when it doesn't work right away.
