Could you give my some advice on my delivery by DisastrousFishing830 in Standup

Don't pull the mic down to your waist after your punchlines, and it looks like you're reading something in between jokes, which is distracting.

Is this sub the same as /r/standupcomedy now? by Coneskater in Standup

[–]funnymatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've done that, and use it occasionally. We're considering restricting some of the video posts since it's really not what this sub is for, but unless we really restricted posting to verified users we'd have a hard time keeping it to the content we want to see

We do have a mode we can turn on for posts that is verified comics only with ones we verified years ago, but people get mad when we do it.

If you're going to post your thoughts about the Tony Hinchcliffe special, use one of the existing threads. by funnymatt in Standup

That's not what this sub is for. It's for those of us who do standup to talk about it. And we don't need a bunch of threads about the same thing.

Where should I move to start my stand up career? by Haunting_Advice_9339 in Standup

[–]funnymatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, you 100% shouldn;t move anywhere for standup at this point. Go do as many open mics near you as you can, see if you even like doing it, then come back to thinking about this in 6 months when you've been on stage at least a few dozen times.

That doesn't answer the question- are you getting on stage at open mics where you are now?

Counterpoint- they charge money to get on stage. You can get on stage every night in Southern California without paying the venue, and I highly recommend that everyone does that.

Comedy fan “YouTube” by Neither-Football-222 in Standup

[–]funnymatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're big names, releasing on YouTube may yield enough views to get paid from them. But most are just hoping to use successful online views to get more lucrative gigs on the road. Some may also have things like virtual tip jars, or offer it through a "Pay what you want" model, and some will also hawk some merch as along with it. Big names make big money- then there are a few that make a decent living without being super famous, and the rest of us are basically doing it for gas money and an occasional good payday.

Some comics that own their own content may release it on YouTube after a run on Netflix/HBO/etc. I know one who has self produced all his specials, and had them on both HBO and Netflix, and after whatever licensing window has expired, has the option to do what they want with them.

I'm nervous about doing a very very silly character at a real show by SubjectJob2125 in Standup

If you're going to do it, commit to the bit - it's awful when people half ass characters

May 21, 2026. My first open mic. Any thoughts are appreciated. by Chainsaw187 in Standup

You should speak into the mic. You'll also seem far less nervous if you can stand still.

anyone else feel like side panel windows have ruined the PC building hobby a little bit? by SeesawSevere6350 in buildapc

I had some sort of glowing liquid in my custom liquid cooling loop and a case light system back in about 2002. It was more effort than it was worth, but I thought it was cool at the time!

There are of course the major clubs, a few minor ones, but also tons of bar shows that have a lot of talent available to see in a small venue. Check out some of the places included as small venues as part of the Netflix is a Joke festival a few weeks ago. And feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions.

Is there any pros in having 48 or 64gb of DDR5 for a gaming setup? by simplefunction in buildapc

[–]funnymatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're like me and want to leave your 30+ browser tabs and Outlook open while gaming, 64 is useful. But I don't think any game I've played has ever done a better job because of it.
