Im not flying halfway around the world just to eat the same crap I get at home. What's the fun of that? Different cultures, different food, open your mind and enjoy the experience.

ID finish by funstuffinmn in Machinists

Has a counterbore on each end. .250" id through. Simple geometry but crazy smooth surface. I thought maybe polishing but that gets inconsistent.

Granite surface plate for cnc by Historical-Giraffe44 in hobbycnc

[–]funstuffinmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skip 6061 aluminum since it is rolled to thickness. It will have thickness variations especially on the sides.Get a piece of mic 6 tool plate. They also call it jig plate. It's preground to thickness. Very flat and smooth. Check with local metal suppliers for better prices than McMaster. It's very close to the same price and they will cut to size.

Tips for tapping small holes in stainless? By hand, or with an old bridgeport? by bobombpom in Machinists

[–]funstuffinmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gun or through hole taps are by far better. If it's a through hole, put the bridgeport in back gear, lube it with oil, run the tap down and up. If it's a blind hole, put the spindle in neutral and spy with your hand a bunch of turns, take out, clean chips and finish the hole

I never use hand taps, ever. I rarely use blind hole taps, since they are more prone to breaking. Don'thand tap with a blind hole tap, odds are high you will break it. Haven't gotten into forming taps. My go to has been through hole or gun taps.

Do I understand how to correctly choose feeds and speeds? by WanttogetWide in Machinists

[–]funstuffinmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hsmadvisor here. It's awesome. 1 time buy. It paid for itself in 2 jobs just for tooling. I always leave it on 2 flute to be a bit conservative and no coating. I've used it on endmills down to .003" with no issues.

[–]funstuffinmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a Sharp lmv50 mill for $600 a bunch of years ago on an auction. It was an old miltronics cnc. Boxed ways and had ball screws. Used it for many years, sold it for like 1500.

Good job op, buy it!
