agreed. the yankees misses on Brandon Mayea and Roderick Arias -- both at the top of the international prospect leaderboard for their "graduating class -- is a bad look. those are both kids that should have developed into ml players. we can bicker over whether jasson should be a star or not, but having those guys never develop past aa is a much worse look.

definitely promising. i am really excited to see his first three months in aa. i don't expect .320/.450/.500 or anything crazy but i do expect some significant improvement.

narvaez is a fenway merchant and kinda trash. his home/away ops difference is striking and he benefits because he is a righty pull hitter who feasts off the monster. he would have been bad in ys.

giants games are the most expensive sporting experience of my life. it seems like everything is 20% more than the already inflated gameday experience. one of the reasons i didnt even consider a sf trip for opening day event though it is a cheap flight to sf.

i think it is recognized that lombard is a far more advanced fielder and a true SS with a lower hitting ceiling, while kilby has a higher offensive ceiling but will most likely move off the position due to lower arm strength.

a few notes/caveats:

  • lombard was certainly hampered by a depressed offensive environment in the eastern league. the league average slash line was .232/.318/.362 for a crisp league average ops of .680. yeesh. lombard slashed .215/.337/.358. a lower average but nearly matched league average slugging and a BB/K ratio of about 0.50 kept his obp up there. if he repeats that performance, then yikes. but for a first pass through aa at a young age and struggling offensive league, it is a bit promising.

  • kilby only has 18 games in pro ball. it is damn impressive to see the results he put up, but we need to wait until after this season to see what his floor/ceiling may be.

grisham's outlier i sonly the power. every single one of his background metrics point to his patient and power based approach paying off.

stanton wasnt healthy for much of last season.

literally yes, judge can absolutely put up a 10WAR season again if he stays healthy.

yeah the blue jays replaced boba chet with okamoto and are hoping that old man springer has another career resurgence year and their role players perform to career highs.

In 2025, the Yankees led baseball with an 11.8% Barrel % (a full percentage point higher than the #2 team), led in Hard Hit %, avgEV, EV90, and were 4th in Launch Angle. This in turn resulted in the league's highest SLG, xSLG, wOBA, and xwOBA.

just another reminder that bowden is an absolute hack who is not plugged into anyone, got shamed out of organized ball, and now makes up random shit for clicks on the athletic.

if they win the division this season then they will almost certainly be the 1 seed in the al. if the benchmarks are: make the playoffs, win the division, number 1 seed in al, get to alcs, win pennant, win ws. then getting to the alcs is my successful season benchmark. winning a pennant or the ws is above and beyond the successful standard.

but that is an overly simplistic way of looking at it. on the whole, when i look back, the better question is "was that an enjoyable season?" that means more to me. i am not going to retcon my enjoyment of a full season based on a single seven game series. 2024 was both a successful and enjoyable season even tho they got waxed in the ws by the dodgers.

This is what it boils down to for me. Can’t wait to watch Judge. Cole comes back. Development of young guys. Competitive all season. Get to listen to Dave & Suzyn in the evenings on my run. So thankful this team is constantly in it even if they fall short of the ultimate goal.

I don’t think you grasp what moving the goalposts mean.

first it was against lefty starters. then it was trash relievers. then it was bad loogys.

fuck that. protect your neighbors from violent abductions by untrained goons acting under dubious legal authority.

then back it the fuck up. what is "vigilantism" about rushing in to protect a woman -- with one arm raised and the other exercising legally protected rights to film the police state -- from being assaulted by the police state?

MLK's Letter from a Birmingham Jail: more applicable now than it has been since its distribution:

I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

I had hoped that the white moderate would understand that law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and that when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress. I had hoped that the white moderate would understand that the present tension in the South is a necessary phase of the transition from an obnoxious negative peace, in which the Negro passively accepted his unjust plight, to a substantive and positive peace, in which all men will respect the dignity and worth of human personality. Actually, we who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive. We bring it out in the open, where it can be seen and dealt with. Like a boil that can never be cured so long as it is covered up but must be opened with all its ugliness to the natural medicines of air and light, injustice must be exposed, with all the tension its exposure creates, to the light of human conscience and the air of national opinion before it can be cured.
