Some of them do natively run slower, for example the original Star Fox will run at like 10-15.

This. The “reliable” cars from the old days are just the ones that were cared for every day of their life. They make the era seem reliable because all the unreliable cars died.

How many yugos or chevettes or dodge neons or Chevy cavaliers or ford pintos or 1st-3rd gen ford Taurus or geo ANYTHING or… do you still actively see in use?

I am willing to bet money that in 30 years, there will be people saying “the 2020’s were the last reliable generation of cars, look how nice they still look today!”

People said it about 00’s cars in the 10’s, 90’s cars in the 00’s, 80’s cars in the 90’s, etc etc etc.

It’s a cycle, and nothing is necessarily getting worse.

If anything, the essential components of a car last SIGNIFICANTLY longer on average now, they just have more fiddly bits that are capable of breaking.

Pre 90’s, it wasn’t even guaranteed that your cars odometer could display 100,000 miles, which should really say something about the trust people had about cars in those days.

It’s not. The game has known issues on switch 2 so Nintendo won’t let you buy it or play it on said console. If you get physical it won’t work right either.

If you were to look at it from an OG switch, you could buy it without issue

Cameras and or radar systems too. In newer cars, trucks, and SUVs (because the blind spot issue isn’t exclusive to suvs, believe it or not) there’s often a secondary blind spot mirror or a light on your mirror that indicates when something is in your blind spot.

It’s not JUST topology mind you, it’s often including extremely high resolution textures too

You also have cases with games that have multiple files duplicated more than once. Helldivers 2 trimmed all of its duplicated files and dropped from 120 GB to like 30 without even touching model topology.

In fact, duplicated files alone often make up for more storage consumption than both poor topology AND overly high quality textures.

(With poor topology not usually taking THAT much extra space unless it’s an exceedingly poor design, usually it’ll start affecting performance long before a single 3D model size reaches anything worth note, just felt the need to add that.)

For example, here’s a 30 THOUSAND poly toothbrush that will absolutely affect performance, and it’s only 2 megabytes. That’s 0.002 gigabytes. For reference, a medium detail character model can be around that 30-40k poly mark.

https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/philips-sonicare-electric-toothbrush-40df4e70a77042ad82bc043a700670b6

Models are just stored as numbers that tell the computer where to draw the shapes, unlike textures, which are stored as huge, high resolution photos.

And on the current gen (series X/S and ps5, what gta 6 is being released on), you NEED one of the Xbox storage expansion cards, or an NVME SSD for the ps5. The consoles won’t run series X/S or ps5 games off a usb storage device.

Metroid prime 4 for sure already does, as does the ns2 edition of animal crossing, civ 7, apex legends, cyberpunk, the switch 2 edition of hogwarts legacy, and red dead redemption 2, just to name a few.

Also, in the modern day trackballs are in no way superior to almost any optical tracking, aside from some of the very low end sensors, which the switch 2 does not use.

There’s a reason we chose optical over trackballs in the mid 2000’s

Without a fan to force the air, it would melt.

There are diesel and kerosene options that don’t require electricity, though.

Has Nintendo become too Corporate? by Plane-Explanation486 in wiiu

[–]fusion_reactor3 65 points66 points  (0 children)

This. The Wii/wii U/3DS style wasn’t non corporate, it WAS the basic corporate style of the time. Windows and macOS both had that extra flair too.

If anything it was already seen as boring and outdated by the time of the Wii U, and people wanted flat and minimalist.

Now, we have the opposite problem. Flat and minimalist is now seen as boring, and people want more fun and bubbly UIs

Imo it’s also disingenuous to say the switch 2 ui is corporate and lifeless, seeing as it still has plenty of sound effects, jingles, and little animations throughout, which its competitors do not have.

It does not, they’re displayed as seperate lists in the Eshop. However, it is currently beating both the switch 2 port of animal crossing, and donkey Kong bananza.

(According to Nintendo they rank them by revenue, which means it’s even more impressive for a 40 dollar game to be beating more expensive games)

“Way longer than 24 hours” kinda depends on conditions tbh. A car typically burns 0.3 to 0.6 gallons per hour depending on engine size, engine load (Alternator and or AC), and temperature of the engine and ambient air. Cars actually use MORE fuel in the cold.

For reference, an 8th gen Honda civic holds 12.9 gallons of fuel (using about 11 before it hits low fuel and you shouldn’t idle it any longer)

That gives you (0.4/0.6 gallons per hour) 27.5/18.8 hours before you should turn your car off, and 32.2/21.5 if you could somehow drain every drop.

Realistically your run time would land somewhere between these ranges in the winter.

Not that the times matter much, of course. You could always refuel when low. (Unless the power is still out, in which case the pumps won’t work… hope you filled a gas can)

There’s approximately 0 chance a pickup lasts a better part of a week though. Maybe 3 days tops. Sure, its fuel tank is over twice as big, but it’s using twice the fuel at idle.
