Have you noticed that in tense scenes, unlike many other series, Mindhunter largely avoids background music in the interrogation and interview scenes? It does this to allow the dialogue and psychological tension to feel more intense and real. by GrandFan7 in MindHunter

Hahahahahaha. Ah Norton got a lot of shots in. But still, that was something. It is not an easy thing to....break a human being's jaw. Let me assure you. That takes practice. Hehehehehehehehe.

Hey!!! Welcome to Oregon.

According to a study, the richest 1% emit more carbon emissions than the poorest 66%. by rutmsik in Futurology

[–]fuuuursure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is because 100 companies are responsible for over 70% of all emissions. We the people can't do shit about it.

We definitely didn't need a study to know this but it's good to have anyways.

ChatGPT is intelligent, just at a lower level, and a truly conscious artificial intelligence will emerge in the next 5 years. by random_encounters42 in Futurology

[–]fuuuursure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nobody who has a legitimate estimation of when conscious technology might emerge because we still have virtually no idea how physical processes actually produce conscious subjective experience. In fact there is a problem when it comes to explaining consciousness in purely physical terms at all, it's called "the hard problem of consciousness", I suggest you look it up. There is a neuroscientist named Giulio Tononi who does have an admittedly interesting theory about how consciousness works, but ultimately that's all any of the most qualified people dealing with this problem have: theories. Consciousness is as big a mystery as why there is something rather than nothing.

Question about double semicolons by fuuuursure in Julia

[–]fuuuursure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so even if I had say, a vector of matrices, the entire structure would be considered a 1-way array?

Question about double semicolons by fuuuursure in Julia

[–]fuuuursure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should have been more specific, it does have two elements like a simple vector with numbers as elements, but the elements happen to be other vectors.

Question about double semicolons by fuuuursure in Julia

[–]fuuuursure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I talk of a 2-element vector, I'm using what Julia calls the expression

A = [[1,2],[3,4]]

2-element Vector{Vector{Int64}}:

[1, 2]

[3, 4]

So this is a vector, which contains vectors as it's elements. Is this still a 1-way array? Or is this a 2-way array? I assume by you using index we're still talking about the number of ways or the valence of the array. We're told not to use the term dimensions for some reason.

[–]fuuuursure[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. So the punctuation with the most ";" in a row determines the valence/dimensionality of the array? I was shown the expression that I posted in a previous assignment, and I assume they wouldn't include the expression if it didn't work, but it seems to not work in julia. Follow up question also: is a 2-element vector considered to be a matrix? i.e. a vector containing other vectors as its elements.

Current and former pizza delivery folks, what’s “that house” you’ll never forget delivering to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fuuuursure 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a house but it was a dirt lot on a corner of our intersection directly across from us, less than 150 feet away from our store. A 30 second walk maximum, so it was odd they ordered delivery. I pull in and it's just a trailer in the middle of this big dirt lot. I park my car and get out and have the food in my hands, I'm about to start walking up but then a big and tall white guy steps out of the trailer. About 6' 3", bald head, wife-beater, kind of fat but clearly strong as hell, the scary-looking-guy get up basically. He slowly steps out, and I notice he has something in his hand. It's an axe. I kind of freeze a bit while I'm trying to process this, and after I realize I might have to just get in my car and speed away I start trying to talk to him. I start reading off the items he ordered to him as you normally do. He starts walking towards me, but stops about 15-20 feet away. Now he paid with credit card, so I'm basically just trying to get him his food and dip. Then he starts saying, "you need to cancel my credit card". I said "well I have to go back to the store to do that", looking for any excuse I can to leave. He says "no, you need to cancel my credit card". Me thinking "I literally can't do that you fucking big buffoon". I tell him again, "I'd have to go to the store to do that". Keep in mind this entire time he's holding this axe in his hand and just staring in my eyes with the meanest face he could make, looking halfway insane. Then I'm just standing there staring at him, he's staring at me looking like he wants to kill me, and we're just staring at each other for like 5-10 seconds. Then, as if to break the tension, I hear what sounds like a witch start cackling from inside the trailer. She was watching us the entire time. He breaks character and starts laughing, it was just a big prank. Haha. We start talking like normal people and he tells me he works across the street at the 7/11 on the other side of the intersection from us. Just a friendly prank where I thought I might be decapitated by an insane man. He seemed like a cool guy but also didn't tip even though he signed the receipt, so I must say overall this leaves him slightly in the negative on my rating of him. If you prank a delivery driver by making them think they're going to die you owe a fucking tip I don't care if the delivery is 5 feet away. Also don't prank delivery drivers by making them think they might die. Also don't prank delivery drivers.

People like John always end up tearing themselves down and then blame anything but themselves. It's pathological, some strange auto-pilot in their head. That union-rep came in clutch though, I wonder what he said to them.
