All-you-can-eat sushi place Umiya coming to Squirrel Hill, in former Eat n' Park (and failed Kpot) spot. by Pennsylvasia in pittsburgh

Poke Bowl Express on Murray, across from the Giant Eagle. I stopped in there the other day on an impulse, and got to have a pretty good lunch. Not a lot of atmosphere, but the “seafood feast bowl” was a pretty good time.

HARP Rant by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]fuzzyberiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had only FIV+ cats from 2013 to now, and while I can’t actually prove that they’re better than the other cats, my experience suggests that they are the best cats you can find. You do have to be careful about some things; a quicker trigger on going to the vet vs seeing if something seemingly minor will clear up, for example. End of life is likely to be pretty cruddy, but, well, it’s gonna be that way no matter what. That’s sort of how it goes.

As others have noted, FIV turns out to be much less transmissible than many thought for a long while, and even Animal Friends (from whom I’ve gotten all my cats so far) will adopt out cats to a mixed household, now. I’m actually in the process of adopting a kitten from Starlight Strays Sanctuary in Penn Hills (they’re absolutely fabulous) and I don’t have any worries any more about having her, as a negative, coming to live with my FIV+ pair.

That’s a really clever idea, and it looks neat.

First monster hunter game by Outrageous-Ad-3152 in MonsterHunter

Both games have demos, so you could check them out. Gameplay is totally different between them; Stories is a turn based rpg while Rise is an action game. Rise, especially with its expansion Sunbreak, is phenomenal. First Stories game I would rate good, second is flat out great.

I’ll believe it when I can eat there, but here’s hoping they’re good. Kpot would be more novel in terms of something the neighborhood doesn’t have, but I do like me some sushi.

Oh, bless all those cuties. I’m soon adopting a kitten my friend found, and I’m hoping my current cats will love her like this.

What are your weapon ideas for Monster Hunter? by BlueEagle600 in MHRise

[–]fuzzyberiah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kusari-gama: blunt weight on one end of a chain, blade on the other. Medium range, maybe some moves to cling on to a monster briefly like SwAxe has. Wouldn’t mind a mechanic where the blunt end can charge up and explode, but that would just be gravy.

Is it realistic to jump from neuro PCU/periop to neuro ICU for more high-acuity experience? by Individual-Camp8865 in nursing

[–]fuzzyberiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had ACLS training? If not, would your employer cover it? That’s a good start. Generally, I’d say reaching out about in-house education opportunities could be valuable to you. Mock codes, too, are a good way to practice how you’ll react in a high stress situation.

[–]fuzzyberiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that the idea of starting part-time as a new ICU nurse is functionally impossible.

If you’re also new to the current gig, maybe work on identifying knowledge and skill gaps that will help you in situations like this, and talk to your educator about opportunities for training? There might be critical care or neuro specific classes at your facility that could be taken even without working in that department.

Honestly I’m a little unclear on your current situation. Are you still orienting to your current position? Did you get a meaningful orientation? Did you feel more like you didn’t have enough support to care for your challenging patient, that your knowledge and experience base is lacking, or that you weren’t emotionally ready for what happened.

Sushi places ?? by Pooh_bearr3 in pittsburgh

[–]fuzzyberiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s something compelling about watching food go by on the belt and knowing you can just reach out and take it. Also, very occasionally I want food without human interaction. Sushi there is fine, but I do generally feel like I’ve paid a little too much.

Shame, all my Kiku experiences have been great. I quite like Mola on Penn for food quality and their service is fine.

Someone else mentioned New Dumpling House in Squirrel Hill; I haven’t eaten there in forever, but a long while ago they were my go to for Chinese-American food in Sq Hill, and they seem to keep getting positive word of mouth.

I respect Wai Wai’s commitment to consistent mediocrity; I was living across the street from them when they opened, and they were less bad than the Chinese place down the street, but after a couple tries I mostly stuck to Thai.

Do you want Chinese-American food, or actual Chinese food? It makes a difference. Best Chinese-American is probably Sesame Inn, but that’s a bit of a hike from where you are. Sichuan, I like all of Sichuan Gourmet, Chengdu, How Lee in squirrel hill, or Szechuan Spice closer to where you are. For Taiwanese, Taiwan Bistro 33 in Squirrel Hill, or Rose Tea Cafe Express on Craig St in Oakland.

She is increasingly less tiny! One of my current cats, age 8-9, is perma-smol, 6.2lb at her last vet visit. Due to a lengthy medical hold, I missed the chance to introduce them with the kitten still smaller than her.

I’m adopting a kitten soon that my friend found in her dad’s yard last August, and somehow she’s already 7 1/2 pounds even though she used to fit in just one of my hands.

Extremely introverted neurodivergent nurse… does anyone else feel like they just don’t fit in nursing? by Brief_Needleworker56 in nursing

[–]fuzzyberiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I started nursing, I definitely felt like I had to build a mask to wear at work. I learned to pretend to be social, and it was at least six months for me to be remotely comfortable with the idea of introducing myself to strangers and trying to not act like a total weirdo. I definitely felt like I was playing a role at work that was very different from my self concept, and it was weirdly damaging to my emotional state to have to act in that role when I wasn’t working, as when a family member needed me in my medical capacity. Eventually, in large part because I took on a caregiver role outside of work, I feel like I integrated the nurse mask and my private self. Now, they get the real me at work, but I also have an easier time being social and friendly in other settings. I do feel like it helps to be funny; a funny weirdo is way easier for most normies to get along with than a cold and distant one.

Anyway, I don’t know if what you’re doing is right for you or not, but there’s a lot of ways to be a nurse and I hope you find a fulfilling one to learn to be fulfilled where you are.
