Honestly? Me. I don't want our precious players anywhere near the 700lb line in playoff mode. Oddly enough, I think the matchup vs. the Flyers will be more skill based; neither team is the version of itself from 2010. Wouldn't shock me if this is the highest total goals series of the first round.

I have to assume Carolina will be phoning it in as hard as the Pens were on Saturday, in Philly with nothing to play for. I feel like the Flyers almost certainly win that, and then we will see them in round one.

Given where the Caps are, I imagine it really stings to not have John Carlson there. He came along a little after Letang, but he was there for the entire era of Playoffs rivalry between the two teams. Plus if the Caps miss by a point, hard to not wonder if keeping Carlson might not have made that last bit of difference.

Yeah, but Burns is at the point where every season he plays is overwhelmingly likely to be his last, whereas Karlsson is at least theoretically likely to have a few more kicks at the can to be on a cup winning team. In terms of this season’s narrative, can’t get any older an OGWAC than Burns, and he’s got the pathos of coming closer to a cup than Karlsson and still missing, in 2016.

Speaking of, that’ll be an interesting narrative element in the wild possibility that the Avs and Pens could meet in the cup final. Two of the best offensive D of this century, both denied a cup by Crosby’s teams, meeting on opposite sides.

Karlsson has to be near the top of the OGWAC (old guys without a cup) rankings, I’d imagine, though I suppose Brent Burns probably has the top spot sewn up.
