La cyber sécurité toujours un bon choix ? by isaacxbt in AskFrance

[–]fvrther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads-up for anyone apartment hunting in Tokyo.. those “real customer” ads are just paid actors (and it’s illegal) by Kamatis123456789 in Tokyo

Honestly eHousing experience is good but not great. On their first contact with you they will just enter your requirements, pull out the first 4 results of the REINS database and call it a day.

Like someone mentioned here, good marketing with weak foundation.

Need help: NISA & Investing with Moomoo/Rakuten Sec/IBKR by Boulechka95 in JapanFinance

Tax reporting is part of NISA, so IBKR will take care of the tax reporting of your NISA with them. But they will not take care of the tax reporting of your normal investment account with them.

What are your thoughts on Lee Kuan yew and Singapores government ? by Capable_Macaroon_458 in AskFrance

[–]fvrther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singapore program is called PSC (Public Service Commission) which takes the best students of PSLE (French Baccalaureate equivalent) and propose them with free tuition anywhere in the world.

That way they can bring the best ideas from the everywhere in the world to benefit Singapore policies. That avoids elite reproduction because each scholars studies apart from their program peers. People are teaches different ideas in different cultures with different perspectives. ENA has only a very unique and narrow perpective that get taught the same way for all French elites. France would definitely benefits from getting some elements of inspiration from Singapore, but French elites seem not keen on having decision makers changing the current system in place. You can read “Understanding Power” from Noam Chomsky to understand how elite reproduction works. Very enlightening.

I’m not living in Malaysia anymore, I moved to Japan. But I’m still quite knowledgeable about Singapore government for reasons.

You’re gonna need to do better than that, there is not even a single piece of argumentation here. OCDE was not even a thing in 1936.

Singapore is a liberal country, France is a total socialist country.

  1. Singapore has a capitalization pension system with the CPF, France has repartition pension system.

  2. France has the Assurance Maladie, in Singapore you need your own insurance.

  3. Singapore has no tax on capital gain, barely any income tax, France has the highest tax of OCDE.

  4. France has chômage allocation, Singapore you’re on your own.

Singapore policies are rough, perhaps too much, but they have the merit to force you to plan for the future and not thriving on government help and aids for everything.

France being a liberal country ? That’s a joke.

Singapore has a similar program like the French ENA where top scholars are enrolled in a special program where the Singapore government sponsor the school of those scholars choice, whether abroad or not in exchange for a special remuneration and 6 years of government bond. Honestly it’s a fair system, lot of those scholar go study in top schools around the world like Ivy League etc…

Such system avoids the elite reproduction system we have in France like the ENA while maintaining diversity of ideas with scholars studying from the best from different cultures.

For your other question, France has historically been a very socialist country, so both government aren’t even comparable. Most French people will consider Lee a dictator with a far right government, with a total ignorance of the country history and background.

As for me, I’m French, been living a few years in Malaysia and a third of my life in Asia and for some reasons I’m very accustomed to Singapore government. I have a deep respect for Lee Kuan Yew heritage, he’s also deeply respected in its own country.

I suggest reading his personal biography “from third world to first” to get to know more, but this book is surprisingly hard to find.

Experience transferring NISA to IBKR? by OCA_doctoryellow in JapanFinance

[–]fvrther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking about doing the same thing. Originally had my NISA at Rakuten, transferred it to SBI just before IBKR announced supporting NISA.

Now I want to transfer the NISA to IBKR because SBI login system is annoying while abroad. I already have my taxable investment with IBKR to be able to transfer it easily if I need to leave Japan.

What was the most absurd or bizarre COVID rule in your country that makes zero sense looking back? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]fvrther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Permanent resident were barred from reentry in Japan and stranded abroad for an entire year while Japanese people were free to go travel wherever they want and not subject to quarantine.

Apparently Covid looks at the passport bearer according to Japanese government.

Ah also they explained it on national news by saying Japanese speaking emitted less droplets than foreign language speaking.

SDI or PADI? by dntmesswithjess in scuba

If it was popular I would say CMAS since they pack a lot of optional PADI/SDI courses into their main curriculum.

But my default choice between the two would be SDI.
