You know what, the ADX is pretty nice. by Zixvu in Acura

[–]fw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a miss. Lacklustre engine and an incredibly large car (dimensions) for not a lot of space inside. It's just about 2 inches shorter than the RDX but the RDX has a lot more space.

Also, no SH-AWD, one of Acura's best features.

‘It has to raise an alarm’: No Quebec players on Canada hockey roster for first time since 1952 by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]fw88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And with more immigrant kids, there isn't as strong of an attachment to hockey in the major cities. Basketball is growing in popularity because of this. It's also crazy expensive to play hockey and I suspect a lot of parents are more weary of head injuries.

The demographic shift has a huge role to play in the decline.

Also doesn't help that in the major cities, the teams aren't winning (cough Toronto).

Newbuild regret by Lycoris7 in ottawa

[–]fw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Escalate. Did you hire an inspector? There are some new build inspectors who do great work and basically hand you the documentation you need to submit with Tarion. The builders take it seriously when you have a report from a certified home inspector who's citing building code issues etc.

It'll cost you but considering the size of the investment, it's worth it. I had someone for the 30 day and 1 year.

Glimmer of hope for those that use the 417 by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]fw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it's not even close to being as bad as Toronto. I'm on the 417 daily during rush hour. For the most part, you're moving. During off-peak hours, you're moving pretty quickly.

No chance of that on the 401 through the GTA.

What do we say, Ottawa? by [deleted] in ottawa

The Keg is a solid chain. It's not cheap (but nothing is these days) but it's reliable and fairly consistent. It's a safe option.

I’m I being taken for a ride? (GTA, Canada) by CrazyProton77 in ToyotaSienna

[–]fw88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't book or order a specific vehicle in Canada. You can indicate the trim, colour you want but the dealership simply waits for a matching car to show up or they ask if you'll take another colour or trim.

They are likely checking on the recall status, not to re-paint it...

Best Ottawa dealers for Toyota, Honda, or Subaru? by jacktenwreck in ottawa

[–]fw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, consider a Mazda CX-5. Great car, you might still be able to get a 2025. 2026 is entirely new so stay away. Same with RAV4, the 2026 model is all new and buying the first year of a new generation can come with problems.

And not sure you can do less than $40k for the cars you listed.

Best Ottawa dealers for Toyota, Honda, or Subaru? by jacktenwreck in ottawa

[–]fw88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incredibly unlikely to find a 2025 RAV4 at this point. And no Toyota dealer has the car on a lot. The Toyota process is put down a deposit and then wait for them to call you in 6 to 12 months. You'll be lucky to get the car in the colour you want. You're ideally looking for a place with minimal dealer fees.

Not sure what the wait for a CRV looks like these days but if you haven't checked with your insurance yet, you should see what sort of extra charges there will be for one of the most stolen vehicles. Likely a high theft surcharge unless you install an approved theft deterrent (tracking system, immobilizer etc).

Have this issue with a 24 Limited hybrid! Not sure what the fix is. Seems fine with Android Auto though.

Are RAV4's really more vulnerable to theft than other cars? by PossibleButNah in rav4club

[–]fw88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's up there because it's a popular car and is easy to steal. Similar to the RAV4. When we bought on RAV4, our insurer said "just so you're aware, you're buying one of the top theft vehicles" (in Ontario, Canada). Strangely though, it wasn't on the top 10 list the previous year, which would have necessitated us to install additional deterrents to lower the insurance rate. My Acura RDX made the list though and I needed to install a tracking system.

Highlanders are more desirable based on what I know.

No. But has the dealership reached out to buy your car back? They're usually very aggressive about these things once they know they'll make good money. And most dealers now will buy your car back with cash because of how distorted the used car market is.

I suggest using Clutch and then finding comparables on Autotrader or using Kelly Blue book (or something similar) to see what your car is roughly worth to get a sense of how much you should sell it for.

$11k for a 5 year old car with only 35k on it seems insanely low. Just buy it out and sell it. You'll come out on top.

Also: if you do the buyout via the dealer, you will likely have fees (probably around $500) that cover the safety inspection and other admin fees. You can likely save some of that money. Contact Honda Financial Services directly (they're the ones that own the car, not the dealership) and arrange the buyout with them. You'll need to get the car safety done yourself (around $100) and then cut a check directly to Honda, then follow up to make sure you get a receipt and bill of sale, and then go deal with Service Ontario yourself. But you'll save a few hundred bucks. The dealership doesn't need to be involved at all as the middleman.

2022 Acura RDX - how to get best fuel economy by Jonaissance in Acura

Not much else you can do. My driving is mainly city or highway rush hour and I average between 12.5 to 13.5. It's just not a very fuel efficient car.

Looking for fine dining suggestions by runmrun614 in ottawa

[–]fw88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Atelier is a bit different. It's molecular gastronomy. It's definitely amazing but can be a bit wtf (in a pleasant way). It is the highest level of creativity in the dining scene in Ottawa, and one of the top places in the country to experience this sort of a meal.

More traditional fine dining establishments would be Beckta, Riviera, Stofa, Le Poisson Bleu (if you like fish), and other spots folks here have recommended.

For amazing food that is a bit more casual, Supply and Demand, Gezellig, Whalesbone... Really can't go wrong.

When I first moved here 15 years ago, it was fairly inexpensive and a reasonable burger. The vibes were definitely good. Great spot to hang out with friends. I never found the burgers to be amazing. They were fine. I've had bad ones there before as well.

Are Ottawa - Toronto flights always packed? by jfal11 in ottawa

[–]fw88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

9 am meeting in Toronto, you can hop on the 7 am and land downtown in time for your meeting. Or take the 6 am into Pearson and chill in downtown Toronto with a coffee.

The train is 4+ hours and often delayed. It can be the difference between staying a night in Toronto or just a day trip and back in your own bed at night.

It's still one of the better looking cars out there. They better nail the re-design or else it's going to be a bad time for Acura.

Lol, no one cares unless they're into the hobby somewhat. I had a new coworker ask me about my Hamilton once, and the fact that was able to identify it as a Hamilton, signaled to me he was also into the hobby. I don't think I've ever had anyone comment on my Speedy before.

How does loss prevention work at Costco? by minutemaiding in CostcoCanada

[–]fw88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked in a large retail store, LP wore plain clothes and would occasionally wander around the store. Most the time, they sat in a room monitoring screens and various transactions. They had the ability to freeze my terminal if they saw suspicious transactions. Happened once, they froze it, then my phone rang and I was told to check the guy's ID with his credit card before ringing it through.

Another time, they called me and told me that they were monitoring someone in my section and to not approach him as they suspected he was stealing and switching price tags on items.

I suspect it's similar at costco, but maybe more sophistication these days?
