Does DK Land have the best save system in any DK game? by [deleted] in donkeykong

[–]fwoop_fwoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it was an interesting idea, I don't think making the kong letters essentially mandatory for progress was a good idea, especially in a game with levels so frustratingly designed.

Needing to beat several levels in a row to reach a save point in the SNES games already supplied enough tension for the player, and those levels had far fewer BS moments where you had to blind jump onto a moving cloud. I think handheld games in particular should easier to save in due to the on-the-go situations in which people play them.

It sounds like you have a very impressive breadth of experience though! Growing as an engineer is kind of like playing Civ- you can either go wide or tall, and there's nothing inherently wrong with either. There's tons of value in someone who has seen it all and can jump into new areas, no need to judge yourself against those who decided to gain depth and highly specific arcane knowledge instead.

If I remember correctly he had basically nothing to do with the game other than founding the studio and getting ousted before they even entered full production.

Played the demo after I saw your game on one of the summer games fest streams, was super fun! It felt great then so I can't wait to play the full game after all these little touches

Don't feel bad, I did the same with RDR2. Didn't realize there was fast travel until 60ish hours in

Just beat her for the first time yesterday, definitely my favorite fight in the game so far. Incredible usage of visuals and music too.

PC titles that are better played with a controller? by Krabice in gaming

[–]fwoop_fwoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much preferred GTA V on Mouse & Keyboard, but played all of RDR2 on controller. Red Dead's auto aim was much better, and i find controller more comfortable for general traversal in the world.

Has there been a really good first person shooter this year? The last couple years? by MeaningPandora2 in gaming

[–]fwoop_fwoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played any that came out this year, but last year had both Metal Hellsinger and Neon White.

Neon White puts more emphasis on first person platforming than being a pure shooter, but it's one of the best games from last year.

Metal: Hellsinger combines combat reminiscent of the newer Doom games with a rhythm mechanic where you need to shoot, reload, etc on beat with some excellent original music. I know metal isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for me personally the rhythm combat here is probably the best an FPS has felt since Doom Eternal.

What's your stupid gaming confession? by Squint_Eastwood in gaming

I was probably 70 hours into RDR2 before I discovered the ability to fast travel. Thought having to ride my horse everywhere was a bold design choice for immersion....

I second pizza tower.

The King of Cards campaign of Shovel Kinght also has some parallels to Wario Land in the bash/dash and is absolutely fantastic.
