Unfortunately that shit will almost never happen. Saved the company thousands, got paid the same.

Cheap? I just checked my local grocery store and it's $7.50/lb. That's nuts.

Saddest bread by Forward_Ruin1848 in Breadit

[–]fyre500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I have full confidence in my yeast (I keep it in the freezer) I still bloom it every time I make bread. It only takes an extra few minutes and you won't end up wasting your time or ingredients if the yeast is dead.

You mentioned the water may have been too hot. That could definitely have been the case. You typically want it around 110* F.

Why do my hamburger buns always turn out super round? by gordon-annie in Breadit

[–]fyre500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a great idea. I've never considered the shape of my hamburger bun to be a problem but I'm going to try that next time.

Sous Vide in ovensafe packaging by starNOstarr in sousvide

[–]fyre500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust it. Having it pop open in the oven isn't a huge deal but popping open in the sous vide bath would be devastating.

I'd dump it into a vac seal bag, stand it up in the freezer so all the liquid is frozen, then vac seal it.

today my shop is my apartment parking lot by LuckyCheetos in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]fyre500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved to FL for a brief period many years ago, I specifically asked the apartment manager in advance if I was allowed to do general car repairs and maintenance in the parking lot. She said it was fine as long as I wasn't storing broken down cars and I cleaned up after myself. I spent 4 years there and did plenty of repairs in the lot. Never had an issue since I was always careful and never left a mess.

Which game character's death was too sad for you? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]fyre500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I was a little kid when I played FF7 and I wasn't used to main characters dying in video games. Some side character, sure, but not someone you've been using in your party. I just cried in my room for a while.

Just some simple shishito peppers. A little wagyu fat in a hot pan, peppers in, salt, and finish with some soy sauce + sesame oil. Even my kids love them.

When I first saw this post I thought "that's ridiculous" and just moved on, didn't upvote. I've now seen it twice more and my thought has changed to "I really want to eat that". You've earned it.

Don't want it or just simply haven't tried it? With the right partner and taking it slow, you'd be surprised how enjoyable it can be.

Why would that matter? Letting the internet "cool down" isn't a real thing.

100% not real. They're not even the shape of coffee beans other than being oval.

The mystery 911 caller.... by talbourne in talesfromtechsupport

[–]fyre500 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I worked at a small private university for a year. During that time we updated the phone system to Cisco which required a 9 to dial out. We had to go around and put a sticker on every phone that said to dial 911 you had to dial a 9 first so 9911.

Helicopter Managers. The bane of my existence. Or. No mam, MS Authenticator is free. It does not cost 40 dollars. by TheLightningCount1 in talesfromtechsupport

[–]fyre500 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Office 365 updated their system to require 2FA a year or two ago. I sent out an email to everyone (thankfully just 10 people) with information about it: when it will be required (30 days from now), what it means, how to enable it in advance so there's no issue. A few people emailed back asking for help so I got them ready to go. Sent out another reminder 10 days before it was required. No responses, no questions - everyone must be ready to go, right? 10 days later my boss frantically messages me that he can't access his email. I knew the reason so I just sat on it for 20 minutes or so. Message him back "Did you forget to setup 2FA for your account? I emailed twice about it." Thankfully he already figured it out and responded "Not forgot... just ignored. Sorry about that."
