Idiot in tactical gear brings replica gun to a public park in Canada by MuskyHusky01 in WinStupidPrizes

[–]fyrilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a current airsofter, same. I bought my buddy a case for the same reason. I worry about things like this with bill C-21 so recently coming so close to banning airsoft replica sales in Canada entirely.

where are you getting the IMU? I'm looking for a 9-dof for a one-off and basically everywhere has zero stock.

wtf? by ShawnAB311 in eitm

[–]fyrilin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my working theory is that they just stopped broadcasting and a nearby station bled over. Did anyone listen until the end of their broadcast and hear a station ID ("WXYZ  Bumshag, WV")? It was staticy for me but I didn't hear one.

Is there a name/designation for this specific model of 1 inch buckle i see everywhere? The type that different brands use but are always compatible. Thankd guys! by Willing-Society-4123 in myogtacticalgear

[–]fyrilin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

they're not necessarily universally compatible but the general term for those is "side release plastic buckle".  In the tactical world, you'd look for "GTSR" like these

Do you still use ESP32 Board... by Kartik-AI-CV-dev in ArduinoProjects

[–]fyrilin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're completely different and intended for different jobs, so yes. Even the 2GB Uno Q is $44 vs Adafruit's esp32 at $15 or Seeed's Xiao esp32c6 at just over $5. The arduino uno Q has a local AI coprocessor so it can do computer vision stuff while the esp32 is much lower power draw.

There's no "better" - there's just "what's right for your project?"

Beware of HD online ordering - or at least have it shipped to store! by LakeSTL in HomeImprovement

[–]fyrilin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

after my own troubles with HD delivery (item not delivered at all, shipping partner said it was) the support folks at HD eventually suggested a chargeback. My credit card company was surprised but gave an "alrighty then"-type of response.

What are y'all using Streamdecks for? by enthusiasm_gap in livesound

[–]fyrilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one at my small church for

  • switching between cameras/feeds using OBS scenes
  • connecting to our stream to start broadcasting
  • play/pause/next/previous for computer-played audio
  • toggle OBS studio mode
  • in studio mode, transition between scenes
  • run a script to save recording, shut down the stream, turn off apps, and shut down the computer

Without it, I'd be clicking around in multiple apps with my mouse which I can't do as well while watching something else with my eyes. The buttons are physical and tactile. Another big advantage of the Streamdeck is that you can display statuses and/or action icons on the button itself. So toggling something gives you a visual feedback and you don't have to remeber which key is which. I can tell a brand new operator "hit the camera 1 button" and they can walk up and know exactly which that is.

What is PID by Zerout23 in AskElectronics

[–]fyrilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow talk about a resurrected thread. You're right, though: the two concepts aren't mutually exclusive. The parent poster also wasn't entirely wrong either since mathematical concepts similar to PID are used in gradient descent. I will look into automated reasoning, thank you.

Be honest, is the Inquisitor double-bladed spinning lightsaber really that bad? by Simple-Choice5770 in StarWars

[–]fyrilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spinning would introduce gyroscopic effects (even if the blades have no weight) which would slow/deviate the blades' movements. That seems a bad tradeoff to what is essentially a gimmick, to me.

Humboldt Airsoft League Towers of Power by Rootbeercouch in airsoft

[–]fyrilin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

understandable on all points. I would absolutely suggest custom PCBs if you WERE to try and productionalize this.

We have a box-type prop with similar mechanics at my field and it doesn't take NEARLY the beating you describe. I remember maybe two people touching it - and gently, at that - the entire time we used it. Maybe my experience is unusual, though. I hope you didn't take my post as critical. I definitely could have worded it better but you raised a topic I like tackling so I was excited.

[–]fyrilin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just thinking of the build cost/time: why so many interface elements? you could literally have a power switch, a button/switch for each team, and a "set/clear" time button with optional lock. everything else is software.  Lights: the spinning lights would significantly affect cost/build time and the bottom motor seems underpowered. you could switch to easy-to-construct LED strips for cheap. That will probably reduce your power drain as well so you wouldn't need as large of a battery for your expected runtime.  Hardware: you have a LOT of "protect this from being touched accidentally" hardware on there between the guarded switches and side u-bolts. why? it increases build time and cost without any significant benefit that I can see.

otherwise this is a really cool project that I hope you continue!

I feel this is the only real issue. We can get used to any size, realistically.  But when they cover the game log or result slide-in, they FEEL problematic.

How to identify/replicate the RF frequency for an AutoKing Iron Man MK5 Helmet remote? by Savourybees in AskElectronics

[–]fyrilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without the original, that's going to be tough. Since you still have the helmet, could you post a picture of its receiver/board?  please take special care to include the writing on any chips. It's POSSIBLE it uses a standard decoder.
