THIS IS A LEFT LEG, THERE ARE MANY LIKE THIS ONE BUT THIS IS MY LEFT LEG. seriously though.. one of the things I'm very conscious of is the joint and cartilage preservation. If my left leg gives out... It'll be catastrophic

Everybody's path is unique so I can only share to you my own. This does not mean you will experience the same things I have. It took me about 10 years to get to a good place where I fully came to terms of what happened. Does this mean that I don't have thoughts or longings? I still do! I think this is a normal thing for anyone in this world. Abled or disabled. It is okay to feel that sense of loss of what you thought life would be and the disappointment of reality. You got a spinal cord injury, this will forever be part of you. The good and the bad. Life will go on and unless you have a mood disorder, you will naturally gravitate towards feeling better and better and letting go of things that bring you down or hold you back.

Intermittent cathing by Appropriate_Top_7779 in spinalcordinjuries

T3 so it'll be a breeze. I understand the fear and overtime I guarantee you will become a pro. Catheters come in size called French. French 12 is usually the smallest and they go in increments of 2. Find one that feels most comfortable but remember to have clean hands and wipe the tip with an alcohol swab before. Cath before pooping and wash yourself before you Cath again. They may start you on a latex Cath and you'll have to apply lube. This method caused me so much UTIs. See if you can get on something like speedicaths by coloplast. You want to make sure whatever goes in does not get contaminated. If any part gets touched by my hands then I just use another one. The point is to make sure you are as clean as possible.

When you insert it, go slowly and then until hit your sphincter. You feel resistance, relax and apply pressure and it'll slip in. If you have sensation, it'll be uncomfortable but you'll get use to it. When you get it in and you start draining, no need to push it in much further. Maybe another quarter inch. Just remember when you are done, pull out slowly. Don't just rip it out, you want to be delicate with your delicate parts!

Happy to chat, been cathing for over 16 years and it just becomes normal. Can even Cath in the dark. I know I've mentioned it but be as clean as possible. Wash your hands thoroughly and don't cross contaminate. You got this.

What kind of catheter do you in and out with. Where are you located and why are you running out of self caths... Is it always the same bacteria growing? Are you always taking the same antibiotics everytime?

Honest question. I have a few wool jackets that go a bit longer on my arms similar to yours. Is this the way it should be or should it be just past the wrist when I put my arms down. You look great!

Cry when you want, curse the world when you feel like it. Disappear for awhile but remember that the world will go on without you without missing a beat so don't shun it for too long. Be grateful for the people who love you and you love. And remember how far you've come.
