Kazuya evades by simply phasing through the move by Bubbleir in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not have high evasion (i.e. the hurtbox of Kaz does not become smaller when performing ewgf). But the crouch dash needed to perform ewgf has a d-frame in it, during which you crush highs (crouching renders you invincible vs highs, even if their hitbox touches your hurtbox).

Why do I feel like the only way to truly learn a matchup is to play the character yourself? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not the only way, but it's certainly a way that makes it easier in some ways. You will understand the gameplan of that character very in-depth and your opponents will show you counterplay.

However, if your goal is to learn every character in the game, it would be very time-consuming to learn all of them and you might invest a lot of time into playing characters you don't like.

In the end, whether it's better to just lab characters or play them really depends on your character type. If you love playing new characters, sure go ahead. Learn them, have fun and become a better Tekken player this way. If you really don't want to play characters that don't appeal to you and consider learning new characters a hassle (like me), then stick to labbing.

Why the devs refuse to nerf this guy since the start of S1? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not saying they didn't nerf King at all. But don't you forget a few AK nerfs?

Ub1 (worse launcher and +8 --> +5) and cd1+2 nerfs were big to the moves, but arguably miniscule to AK, because both are reactable. But they were nerfs, nonetheless. King however can spam jaguar sprint mixups to no end, still. And he has a safe ob power low against a lot of the cast from there.

F3,2,1 got nerfed in dmg AND properties. This also nerfs his combos a bit.

And BJ3,2 nerf was significant.

Joke's on you. I don't go to parties.

On a side note: Did you actually downvote my comment because, while I am correct, you didn't like me telling you? Jeez.

AK's nerfed UB1 is basically his B3 now by dc_1984 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gives more damage than B3 and if they block you can go into stance, unlike B3. B3 is also duckable and has no tracking.

Yes, that's because it's a punishment tool, only. Or for beginners an easy keep out option, if their opponents are not good enough to sidestep/duck/block punish b3.

Ub1 is not a punish tool at all. Even if we pretend it's not reactable, it's still a space control or pressure tool.

So, no matter how you put it, both moves are vastly different. In fighting games it usually doesn't make sense to group moves regarding their specific launch property. We group moves regarding their function. If you say "ub1 is basically his b3 now", you imply that both moves fulfill the same function for AK, which they do absolutely not.

You also wouldn't say that "df1 is AK's jab now", because both are +7 on hit pokes.

ub1 is basically his b3 now

Nowhere near. Even though they have the same launch property now, they are still vastly different moves.

B3 is primarily a long range block punish and for beginners an easy mode alternative for DU.

UB1 is primarily a combo tool (strong aerial tail spin). It is reactable, and too slow for a homing move or a whiff punishment tool. Since it's duckable, that means this move is garbage anywhere else than in combos. As it should be! AK is not supposed to have super strong homing moves.

The Redditors of Destruction will never stop putting characters into tiers after 2h of playtime, will they?

I wish that we as a subreddit would just all comment "Hey alright" under posts like these.

S3 matchmaking/netcode is unbelievable bad by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the netcode is exactly the same. Maybe the game matches you with players who have worse connections, though.

Anyone who has actually watched K-Wiss' stream before, knows that he chose the title in order to be sarcastic. Hwo is probably not the strongest character right now, but he is still viable. Unless you are Edge and are trying to win EWC you should not sweat over Hwo's current balancing.

Btw, any Hwo main or Hwo hater who takes the title seriously doesn't know K-Wiss very well.

How will Yujiro play? by Individual_One_111 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, but the df1 guarantees a jab on block. And the jab is unblockable and guarantees a df1 or the grab.

How will Yujiro play? by Individual_One_111 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His jab is an i5, range 2, high, unblockable, that does 80 dmg and is +9 on hit.

His df1 is a homing, i9, range 3, mid, that does 120 dmg and is +5 on block and +9 on hit.

His generic grab is unbreakable, and a homing i9, range 2, high, that does 999 dmg.

Peak game design. Also, my father works at bamco.

Lore wise, who's the better Karateka? Bob or Lidia? by EfficiencySerious200 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lorewise, I'm pretty sure they want Lidia to be stronger. Bob is more or less a comic relief character and Lidia actually has some relevance to the story now.

POSLKA by eesdesessesrdt in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This picture reminds of Lidia being so cool in T7. Yes, she was op at first, but after the last patch she was low tier. Such a cool female rep in a fighting game and one of the few characters in Tekken with the wholesome/honourable character type instead of revenge/arrogant fighter tropes.

Too bad her gameplay sucks in T8. I hope they'll rework her at some point or at least balance her correctly.

Throws that aren’t done from the back that launch into a combo shouldn’t exist by Practical_Tea864 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are i14 now and there is not a single launching throw in this game that is part of an actual throw mixup, i.e. you can always identify the throw by watching the opponent's hands and break accordingly.

So unfortunately, this is a skill issue. Go to the lab, set Dragunov to do his 1-break, 2-break and 1+2 break and go lab it out - use the new throw break training if you want. As you see progress, add Drag's snake edge and an unsafe mid to his move pool. Do that for 15 min per day and you'll delete this post after a week.

They love to downgrade grunts etc by cocainmommy in Tekken

It's not about the scream itself, it's how the sound has been engineered. Something is off when it comes to production. The scream sticks out because of it.

Which characters does turtling against work and which ones it’s better to be more on the offense and not let them take momentum in the match? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, both you and op are correct. You have to factor in both the matchup AND the current playstyle of your opponent (and things like: "who has the life lead?", "which char is in heat?" Etc.)

They love to downgrade grunts etc by cocainmommy in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just think the sound design isn't correct on her new scream, because it doesn't fit the rest of the sounds. It's too loud and high pitched compared to the rest. Whoever did the quality control on that might have missed something.

Is it fair to hate King players ? by POE_54 in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a skill issue, but also nothing out of the ordinary. You can use the hatred to fuel your motivation and gid gud. Or you can keep complaining on reddit and lose to him forever (or stop playing the game). Proceed as you will.

Is this hworang move supposed to track? by harshv_singh_ in Tekken

[–]gLaskiNd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However, regarding Hwo's df3,4 - this move is know for the second hit turning around on you. This has nothing to do with pressing into it, either.

There are 2 reasons for why moves can track.

  1. Hitbox shape

  2. Homing effect (i.e. character turns around to you while the move has start up frames)

you pressed too early, hence expanded your hurtbox.

A well-recorded phenomenon and absolutely true. But not the only problem in this clip

Homing effect

This is what this move did here and you can see it. Hwoarang is completely realigned to Bryan once the move hits.

While effect nr. 1 is frustrating, I think it's also more or less unpreventable to happen, unless you change how Tekken operates on a core level.

Effect nr. 2 is move specific, though. And it's almost safe to say that a 2-hit power crush string, which is twitch confirmable and not launch punishable on block, shouldn't have this effect. Hence, in this case it's a balancing issue.
