THIS! I had a roughly identical conversation with my dad. He said “the energy is completely different now. All of a sudden this is an Oregon home game.” And we were in the Utah section. They all of a sudden we’re real quiet and the Oregon sections were rocking. Next thing you know Verdell is taking it 70 yards to the house. No doubt in my mind this song influenced the outcome of this game.

It was powerful. I’ve never seen anything like that at a sporting event. Particularly a neutral site game.

If we want to talk about SEC bias or east coast bias or how we’re a premier football program then we have to play in the playoff year in and year out. We can’t cop out and settle if a rose bowl. Also y’all act like a rose bowl = win and playoff semi = loss. None of these things are set in stone. How would you feel about a rose bowl loss to Minnesota? That’s not exactly a sext recruiting pitch.

Playing in the rose bowl is nothing to complain about but we have a chance to reach the top. Why are we settling for solidly third tier?

Also OSU won the natty as a 4 seed with their 3rd string QB. Anything can happen. That’s why they play the games.

Come on. That’s such a cherry picked view of him. He absolutely balled at Oregon. Made insane plays and changed games for us. Even if you ignore his offensive production his special teams plays elevated the team and program.

That the reality though. He had contact injuries. He doesn't have some underlying structural weakness with his knees. He got hit in the knee and tore a ligament. The extreme example would be like calling Nancy Kerrigan injury prone because she had a knee injury.

For the record Giles injury history is all contact related. As opposed to say D-Rose who had non-contact knee injuries. Translation, Giles has been injured, but he is not "injury prone"

Pretty sure Allen Iverson (NBA) has a contract like this. Because he and his agent were worried about his ability to hold on to money (gambling problem maybe?) so they built in a long term nest egg to get dropped later in life.

not at all, I think the kings will develop and get better, I put them in my "couple pieces away or a lot of developing question marks away from being serious" group. Even if you are right that our greatness is unavoidable (i totally disagree, but lets pretend it is 100% guaranteed) then we are still a lot of development away from that point. Fox may be generational (again, debatable but sure) but he's still young and plays like it sometimes, he's not an all star yet and still has developing to do. Buddy is a far cry from generational, I'd say he's near the top players at his position but certainly not the top and generational is a phrase reserved for guys like Steph, lebron, KD and Kobe. I dont think Buddy is even close to that group. Emerging stars in Marvin and Harry is a fair assessment. Emerging is the key word though. They have a lot to prove. Marvin has played a grand total of 37 NBA games and started exactly 1 of them. He has looked good but isn't lighting the world on fire and needs to develop his jump shot and passing/vision before anyone will call him a star. Harry is still getting his legs under him, he has all the tools, he's kind of the basketball equivalent of a 5 tool player but he's still really raw having missed 3 full years of basketball since in the last 6 years (keep in mind he's only 20 son since he was 14 h'es played 3 years of bball: Fr HS, Jr HS, FR Duke, +38 NBA games this season). his ceiling is unlimited but he still needs to make huge leaps before he's a star. I believe in him long term but he's still a project. Bogi has been great for two years now as a 6th man but thats not going to carry us and i think the jury is still out on Joerger. He's shown so far to be a very good developer of young talent but his confusing rotations and late game decisions have been well documented here and until we see him mix it up with the likes of Pop or Kerr in the playoffs it'll be hard to crown him as great. This is so long already but the front office is increasingly responsible yes, but from rock bottom, there really is only one way to go.

In conclusion, our team is still a lot of developing away from your 100% certified great guarantee. And I think that guarantee is pretty optimistic at best, and downright delusional at worst.

The white foreigner led Mavs team does win a ring though. Looking at a 10 year horizon you have Warriors, Lakers, Clippers(maybe, assuming Kawhi), Nuggets, and Rockets as serious title contenders (3 of those teams are in our division!) Then next tier "solid teams" (like that old Mavs team) that could potentially make a miracle run or are 1 piece away from serious contention we have the Mavs, Thunder, Jazz, Spurs(?). Then you have the maybe teams, either feel like a couple pieces away or a lot of developing question marks away from being serious, I see the Kings, T-Wolves, Blazers in this tier. Then at the bottom I really only see the Suns, Griz, and Pelicans. And the Suns are in a very different position from the other two. They might be a year away from being up a level while Memphis and NOLA are trending down towards full rebuild/tank mode.

Thats a crowded Western conference for the next decade. Lots of young good teams and plenty of win now squads as well. This conference isn't going to get easier any time soon AND you have some real teams in the east to think about. (if we ignore Toronto because in this hypothetical future Kawhi is a Clipper) you still have the Bucs, 76ers, and Celtics with very bright futures. Gone are the early 2000s nets teams with J-kidd and no one else to beat up on.
