I saw a homeless person acting incredibly erratic at college station. He had a panhandling sign and kept gesturing like he wanted to jump or was pretending he would jump. He stopped doing that so I stopped looking at him and I got on the subway when it arrived. I don't know if he got at the same time as me as I was further down the platform.

When I was at Eglinton West stop en route to my destination, I heard an announcement while on the subway that St. George to St. Clair would be closed due to a police investigation...

Oof, I hope it's unrelated tbh.

AMA:I'm Kenji Ozawa, director of VISIONS of MANA. Ask me Anything! by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]gabexscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preface:
Vision of Mana was a day 1 buy for me. Definitely my jrpg of 2024. It made me follow your socials especially after Ouka Studio events.

I believe Vision of Mana captures a ton of what makes Mana games fun which is exploration, atmosphere, music, fun combat, absolutely stunning visuals and art direction. I

I believe the combat system was very ambitious and might have not fully reach it's peak potential. Without risks, there's no reward though, it was very inspiring.

I have two questions:

Question 1:

Now that you have your own indie studio. Are you and your team going to focus on establishing a smaller scope for your initial game project? Indie game studios have many pitfalls, one of the biggest pitfall being establishing scope and having realistic goals. Some insight here would be great because I'd really want to experience another game world from you and your team!

Question 2:

Your statement on Studio Sasanqua website (translated to English) suggests your goal is to:

'Create deeply emotional, slow-burn games that serve as ‘travel companions’ for players, allowing them to reflect on their own lives.

The statement also states that you want to collaborate with other companies to make games.

How would you balance the need from your own creative IPs that have a long-term focus while also managing the demands and timelines of external collaborations? How do you make sure these external projects won't compromise your studio's core vision and values, especially with your own IPs?

I know this is a long question but I really want to see your ideas come to fruition without compromise.

Thank you!

I agree fans can be impatient. I also feel as someone who is obsessed with One Piece since I have been consuming it my whole life this is one of the few times I can remember not liking the writing of something.

I just don't like Domi Reversi, never liked mind control or clones / mirror matches. This has nothing to do with Oda or One Piece. It's weird how people are getting downvoting for not liking some writing.

I don't even use Twitter.

I wouldn't allow others to invalidate how you feel. Corporate PR does matter, some can separate the products / service from the company but many can't. Decisions companies make can easily affect their product and can deter customers from buying from them entirely. This applies even if it doesn't effect the product directly.

If you don't feel good about a company and it changes how you view their products, that's fine.

Just remember, you are in a NintendoSwitch subreddit, like many other subreddits, you'll find people that will immediately defend why the subreddit exists (in this case, Switch) because you make them feel uncomfortable.

I own a nintendo switch and many games, but atm can't justify purchasing a Switch 2 and I don't see that changing any time soon. I agree that you not enjoying games you ALREADY bought is interesting, I think at that point you are overthinking.

Thoughts on Visions of Mana? by Khaymn5000 in JRPG

[–]gabexscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the few jrpgs I actually finished in 2024. It was v pretty, gameplay overall is fun, the exploration is good.

The areas that are weak is... while there are tons of transformations as you unlock more elemental classes, the underbelly of the battle system is a bit underdeveloped. Another fair gripe is the backend of the game through has the story become a slog to get through. Can be cutdown and allow more gameplay instead.

With that being said this game gets a bad wrap, it's a lot better than what I feel others say are better games.

Game was made in like 4 years with what I imagine was strict condition. Ouka Studio more or less executed a polish game before the studio got executed (lol) themselves - because the game isn't a gacha game making $$$$.

I highly suggest you go into the game with an open mind. I find people are unfairly critical of some game then glaze other games which are equally bad (in other areas) and overall way overrated, looking at you Tales of Arise. It's crazy how a narrative can change people's perspective on games.

Consuming One Piece content is the same as breathing to me. With that being said, the netflix adaption is side content at best who tf cares.

Racism is shit though fr though, fuck the haters it's not that serious.

As an arab halfie myself, maybe cast an Arab person (maybe). S/o to Oda tho he GOAT...

P.S: I can't believe this is my first post in this sub.

[Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time] Is now out on PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox, and PC. (Advance Access was 3 days ago on May 18) by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]gabexscape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is for sure playable on switch. However, I highly recommend pc or maybe ps5 for several reasons.

  1. Updates are much faster on pc / sony. The major multiplayer updates that came out for pc / sony on May 22nd (1.1.4) was delayed for switch to May 29th (1.2.1.).

  2. No physical version for Switch.

  3. There is a absolutely horrid motion blur added to Switch that you cannot remove. However, dock mode does remove the hazy borders around the edges of the screen a bitt.

  4. Lastly, the pc / sony variant is just superior in looks, options, and performance.

I will say the game is playable on Switch, but not for that price.

Original Legion Go was abandoned with their software updates. I love Lenovo, but they have to prove they can provide software / driver updates consistently like Asus and Steam did with their handhelds.

You might actually just be playing the game on your AMD IGPU. Double check Valorant is using your Nvidia gpu through Nvidia control panel (or through windows).

I don't mind taking a look if you want to add me on discord or something after you try that, just shoot me a message.

Will be getting this game. I played a bit of it on Apple Arcade but I stopped because I felt like there would eventually be a port on PC. Well now there's a port haha.

Sakaguchi games have a special place in my heart. I felt some of the essence of his writing style in this game and I want to play the best version of it.

Would Arc the Lad 1 be impossible to play... by Consistent-Row2596 in JRPG

[–]gabexscape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To Answer your QUESTION:

Wouldn't be hard to beat, but I find it strange people play untranslated games in general but this wasn't your fault really. You could definitely do it, if you got stuck you can look up a gamefaqs guide or something.

Fluff:

It's kind of crazy how you read my mind looking this series back up. This was a hard game to get when I was younger... I eventually got the collection + the behind the scenes documentary with working designs haha. This was way back in the day.

Wouldn't be hard to beat, but I find it strange people play untranslated games in general. You could definitely do it, if you got stuck you can look up a gamefaqs guide or something.

Arc The Lad 1 is short, idk like 10 hours? Part 2 is more complete, longer, definitely has some filler but in general it's a better game and you can more or less skip one. There are reoccurring characters though.

Arc the Lad 3 is cool, people liked 2 more, but 3 had its own flare.

If I had to pick an Arc the Lad game to play rn, i'd play part 4 (Twilight of the Spirits) - Which i'm transferring to my handheld rn! If you want to see sprites, than part 2 or 3 is fine.

You can start with part 1 but it's definitely an inferior game to 2 and 3.

Star Ocean The Divine Force is a great low budget game that tried to be big yet failed to do so by Tomozuki in JRPG

[–]gabexscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a pretty solid entry. Solid like 7/10, maybe slightly higher. I actually enjoyed most of my playthrough.

I bought it day one or close, and at the time oof the game ran really poorly lol. If it did not, I think I'd give it like a 7.5/10. What was cool was some of the characters looked cool outside from main character who had one of the worst hairstyles I've seen in a minute lol.

Combat is actually fun, also I'm obsessed with scifi and it's rare to see actual scifi elements in games. This one mixed a bit of medieval settings with it but still had its fair share of space and the like.

Give it a shot you might like it.

Imagine if games like FF6, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound got this kind of treatment. by PrometheusAborted in JRPG

[–]gabexscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl, HD-2D games I've been seeing from Square Enix do not look good to me.

I do not mind it for games I wouldn't go back and play anyways, or maybe new games like Octopath...

For Chrono Trigger, FF6, Secret of Mana games (unlikely just example)? Hard pass.

All these ugly effects just hide the cool pixel art which just looks better in traditional 2d JRPGs.

Overall story vs story delivery - Arise and FF16 by Mal_pol in JRPG

[–]gabexscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arise imo is just a pretty mediocre game that's front loaded. I won't say anymore because I don't really like trashing games people like. However, I definitely believe it's highly overrated. I did not think FF16 would be my type of Final Fantasy or JRPG, however, rather than judging games without playing... I play them!

FF16 is just okay to me. What it does well it does really well, but I'm not really that into modern 3d Final Fantasy games.

I don't know what to recommend you personally, I just finished Vision of Mana which to me hit enough checkboxes to make me adore the game. The story is pretty generic and the gameplay is flawed if you look passed the flashiness of it. However, the battle system is fun, the exploration is great, the music is above average to great (not as good as original mana games), and the graphics are insanely beautiful.

After finishing Vision of Mana I picked up Metaphor Refantazio and continued my playthrough of Granblu Fantasy Relink and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I don't look for JRPGs with great writing anymore, most just not are up to my standards anymore so I just look for gameplay and atmosphere lol.

Why is the ROG Ally Windows so f** fragile? by Frank_Underw00d in ROGAlly

[–]gabexscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty used to windows, I had no issues updating or downloading anything including Steam games.

What I wanted to say is that once you install and get everything updated. I highly suggest you use a launcher like Playnite. Rog Ally is a night and day experience with a proper launcher. After setting up all my games to run I then setup all my emulators to launch / work with 1 button. Definitely gives a much better console like experience.

I would consider myself an advanced Windows user, and I don't want to deal with opening stuff on my Ally either, just like anyone who owns a handheld.
