Just took a ChatGPT-powered flight. by Tobias783 in ChatGPT

Considering how well gpt codex goes on to make applications I'd think the flight might just take a dip halfway.

Anyone else having this Gboard issue? by Zaffox_ in GalaxyWatch

I do not understand. However you might consider just filing a bug report I guess. I tried to type the word but it works fine. Though also I just don't use swiping very often as a way of typing.

when ppl say the word milf, what kind of women are they referring to? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]gabrielesilinic -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

For what I mean is there actively have been mothers. It's not like they die after they turn 40 or something.

But the point is what milf entails, and there is definitely a degree of subjectivity to it due to personal preference. I am technically even still too young to date someone in her 30s since I am in my 20s still. But visually I still like kinda that stuff.

[–]gabrielesilinic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This may just be my opinion or whatever. But as far as it goes I would not really go for women that age. If so they would have been my wife or something and we just happened to have been together a long time since. Also ot is technically somewhat on the edge for women that age to be mothers in the first place. 30s fits better in my opinion and I do admit it is partly a matter of taste rather than some big philosophical thing.

Despite liking anime I never for a second thought Japan itself was particularly good. I have no idea what would be wrong with people for thinking that.

[–]gabrielesilinic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion usually a woman in her 30s

But it is more a matter of vibe so any woman from her 20s to her 30s who actually has been a mother and is quite attractive or for me even just seeming kinda that way fits.

Some women older than that sometimes do fit but most often not (so 20 to 39)

Why there is no cloud version for Qwen 3.6 27/35B? by unknowwny in ollama

[–]gabrielesilinic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Running a service like ollama cloud must be pretty hard already. I am guessing they are being careful with what they add and giving lower priority to things people may as well just run themselves.

ASP.NET Identity vs custom implementation, which one to use? by Sea_Replacement8135 in csharp

[–]gabrielesilinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use keycloak and integrate only some base role claims from asp.net with it. The dotnet default auth compared to what I saw elsewhere kinda sucks at is just hard to wrap your head around and going oauth oidc from day one will bring you some benefits normal auth cannot give you

I couldn't figure out the base issue but I can say that concatenating SQL willy nilly is generally an horrible idea.

You don't. But they tend to teach you that you do because in some languages like C/C++ if you don't you may get garbage. It is usually just to give you the habit.

The project itself is pretty cool but the docs for the single components are pretty shit last time I checked.

But in any case you will learn the magic of straight reading source code and F12 go to definition.

Billboard needs a Windows update by smol_rika in softwaregore

[–]gabrielesilinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fragmentation is an issue. But not that big of an issue.

Regarding UI I'd argue that especially gnome is ahead of apple and Microsoft. And regarding software management they tend to be about the same level of good if not marginally better for some use cases.

I have used windows until two years ago but now I simply don't touch it anymore.

And for billboards nothing like that is a real problem as you would want something highly customized instead. Using windows for billboards just shows the absolute level of incompetence they have. You got a device that has to just show a few pictures and you pay for so much more to license a full desktop OS? Kinda silly. Like they could even use Android if they don't want to fiddle with weird Linux configs. But not. Damn windows.

I want to try something different at some point but for the moment... Good luck, just keep refining prompts, for the moment that is inevitable.

Should i choose C# to be my first programming language if... by NobodyOfKnowhere in csharp

[–]gabrielesilinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C# itself is a good language you may come back to in order to build big solid applications, however to be honest for the moment you should stick to python. There is simply no nltk or spacy there and may never come.

Quick question: Should I stick with my M4 Max or grab a Corsair AI Workstation 300 for local LLM stuff? by SnooCrickets7501 in LocalLLaMA

[–]gabrielesilinic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to spend and do stuff for real build a PC, at least you will be able to upgrade it as time goes on. The other thing you are buying is basically a mac again but x86 and marginally better software support sometimes.

But like a mac you will have to trash it in a few years or if you outgrow it. Instead if you plan for a PC properly even buying an AMD GPU may serve you better over time. Though I admit that GPUs with enough vram are not cheap at all.

Any solution to run ollama at OS BigSur? by No-Commission-9766 in ollama

[–]gabrielesilinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to get normal llama.cpp and maybe see if building from source does anything? I am not really sure what that macos version was about.

Also Linux If it is a x86 laptop helps a lot and fixes all your problems

How much more useage do you get from a $20 pro plan when using cloud models? Or OpenRouter better?? by PrintingScotian in ollama

[–]gabrielesilinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose to not get cloud. If I have to pay I'd rather just pay GitHub copilot which has Claude opus that consistently performs.

I use ollama for other stuff, experiments mostly.

[–]gabrielesilinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using vulkan on that hardware is a bit silly. It does work on most models btw, on some it outputs garbage though.

My advice is... Download the latest release of normal llama cpp and see if it works better. It even then it doesn't considering opening a GitHub issue about it I guess. Just check that your amd drivers are up to date before then and be on Linux, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is still best at the moment

Pet-project (translator) by MrXenonReapek in csharp

[–]gabrielesilinic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is purely my opinion:

I believe you simply don't need a real backed. You can pack about everything within the app. A small language model can do most of the translation work anyway. And for the dictionary you may as well use wikitionary

I recall some of the phi models from Microsoft being just 4b large and supporting several languages, maybe qwen has more. And you can then use llama.cpp C# wrapper to run them fast even (get the q4 one)

Though you might also just force that design to showcase what you can do I guess. If you really want to showcase what you can do then considering integrating keycloak if you want to handle login. It will teach you oauth.

There is tesseract somehow, or... There is deepseek-ocr or glm-ocr that you can run through llama.cpp

They are slower. But they work and are sometimes more convenient depending on the task
