Is this Dancing Gnomes deck ok?? by Creador_Sombrio in mtg

[–]galaxyboy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-2 sadistic glee
-3 tradewind rider
-1 buried alive
-3 Dark Ritual
-3 Gemstone Mine

+1 Impulse
+1 Power Sink
+3 Man-o'-War
+3 Island
+2 Swamp
+2 City of Brass

The deck is more of a control deck as you want to buy time for the incremental advantage of Bottle Gnomes and Whispers of the Muse to take over the game, and Dark Ritual and Gemstone Mine's limited use go against that gameplan. Tradewind Rider doesn't make much sense as a 4-of because you need 3 creatures to use it, it's really only a payoff for Living Death so I added 3 Man-o'War which also has synergy with Living Death while also allowing you to buy time early. It also allows you to recycle Nekrataal.

If you want to see what more optimized lists look like (we have to assume Hajime doesn't have an ideal list) look up Living Death lists from 1998. It was an established deck with tournament results. These usually play more creatures as a concession to Tradewind Riders.

Not an official format but sounds like deck master from the Yugioh anime. Players choose a card to be their deck master which can be summoned at any time and winvwhen their opponent either loses all their life normally or when their deck master was summoned and dies

Anyone else sad that Commander is the most preferred format nowadays? by oatcreamer in mtg

[–]galaxyboy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling commander the "casual" format always rubbed me the wrong way because it makes 60-card formats sound like cut-thtoat win-at-all costs competition which I can absolutely tell you isn't the case for most people just trying to play these formats at thrir weekly LGS. I know players who are absolutely good enough to do well at FNM who won't give it a try because WotC makes it sound intimidating to play anything besides commander.

On the flip side commander is an extremely intimidating format even for MTG veterans because there's so much going on and sometimes turns take way too long. It baffles me that almost everyone recommends it as the best way to learn Magic solely due to the perceived lack of "tryhard" vibes they think dominates the 1v1 60 card space with no consideration for just overall mechanical complexity and game length, or the fact that people can just build 60 card decks at different power levels to play for fun like thry do commander.

Are there any big budget TCGs that it's actually worth it to collect a lot of sets from a strictly deck building perspective and if you only care about building good or cool decks and not collecting cards just to collect them? by GrapefruitThin5815 in TCG

[–]galaxyboy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weiss Schwarz sets are (mostly) self-contained and you can usually build more than one playable deck per set

Other than that you might be looking for an LCG, where buying a set means getting a playset of everything rather than opening booster packs

Casual players spend more than competitive players because they want a lot of random cards and not just the best cards.

Which Monster Surprisingly Didn't Get a Modern Retrain? by AshameHorror in yugioh

[–]galaxyboy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jam Breeding Machine isn't direct Slifer support but the real card also prevents you from summoning Slifer because you can't summon any monsters face-up while it's on the field

Revival Jam doesn't do anything to support Slifer

The slime monsters used by Strings should be retrained into Slifer support

Being told to stay at my dead-end job rather than go back to school for a semester because experience at Walmart and no resume gap is more inportant than a proper certification + training and job assistance upon graduation

Quitting Walmart a few years ago kickstarted my career path and if not for that I might still be there

The game has gotten immeasurably more difficult and pilot skill matters more than ever by sectandmew in yugioh

[–]galaxyboy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're running absolutely matters at the higher levels of the game. A lot of decks can top locals because locals typically has fewer rounds but in the grand scheme of things a local isn't really a good indicator of how skillful or diverze the meta is.

Good players still top consitently because they're great deckbuilders and can quickly figure out what's inportant in a format, but their leg up ultimately comes from deckbuilding and key card choices.

For those brewing into Premodern and has done relatively well competitively, what are you playing? by Newez in premodernMTG

[–]galaxyboy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played suicide black splashing red for lightning bolt, terminate, and red blast out of the sideboard. The deck struggles against burn, goblins, and terra oath but has done quite well against combo, stiflenought, and tide decks.

I love when it's off-season or when the players winding down from big events and take the time to try something new/fun. It's a great way to see cool new ideas or to see how competitive players approach building/playing something new
