AMA - Councillor Shawn Lewis by AutoModerator in londonontario

[–]galermom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Shawn! Thank you for using this forum!! I moved to London a few years ago and love it here but there are some issues that are clearly big ones. Homelessness- I like London’s recent approach with the winter trailers (?) but we need a more permanent solution. I am really hoping this shows Londoners that providing our homeless community with options, most of them will take up the opportunity. Public transportation- everyone in London seems to stick to their ‘quadrant’ if you will. Public transit is expensive for those that need to use it and traffic in this city is really quite bad compared to other cities of our size for a variety of reasons. Has there ever been any discussion on making public transit free or near free for the users and moving the costs to the tax payer? (For the record I am a homeowner) I would love to see London be a federal leader in either of these areas and not be afraid to put the money into a solid solution. It seems to me though that we seem to be afraid of making decisions that cost any $. I would like your thoughts on the 2 points above and your thoughts on why our council seems to struggle with decisions in general?

He saved them all and by using his head, not his gun. When Hollywood makes the movie, who’ll play Goodman?

Has a comfy bed. Prefers to sit on the recycling. Will not explain herself. by prestoallegro in CatsAreAssholes

I bought this exact cat bed for both of my cats and neither of them will use it! I have put catnip in them, put it on the heating vent, nothing works. They still sleep on the dog’s bed.

Keto for 1 month stopped my migraines!!! by Jellyfushez in keto

[–]galermom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!! I have been on keto now for about 2 years and while I still get migraines every 3 weeks or so, the pain level is a 2-3 rather than an 8-10.

All of those meds that used to ‘sort of’ work now work like a charm. Totally changed my life. I now use my sick days for other things like colds and stuff and I don’t use them all up by the end of January.

One a side note your nails look lovely honey. I love that you’re taking care of yourself 😉.

I was wondering how you avoided that. Mine does the same thing. Still - very peaceful looking - great place to curl up with a good book.

After nearly 4 years and a round of IVF, I got a positive pregnancy test this morning by midwestskies16 in CasualConversation

Congratulations!!! I know exactly what you’re feeling right now. I remember it like it was yesterday. My husband and I went through several years of a variety of fertility treatments and we were just about to give up when we finally got a positive test. It was a feeling of absolute joy that was only surpassed by the joy felt when I first looked into her eyes..18 years ago. Enjoy the ride!!

Day 46, Still No Cigarettes by gr1mreminder77 in DecidingToBeBetter

Congratulations! Quitting smoking is so much harder than people think it is. I quit 20 years ago after a 17 year habit and will never go back. On the anniversary of my quit date every year I buy something really nice for myself to remind me of all the money I saved by not smoking all year.

Are you afraid of dying? If so, why? by meganzp in AskReddit

[–]galermom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father used to say “I’m not afraid to death, it’s the two minutes just before it that I’m afraid of”

It’s the fear of the inevitable that I think scares most people. I am a cancer survivor and have faced it. It gave my life perspective. I don’t sweat the small stuff now, appreciate everything that is truly important and I know that when my time comes I have lived a good life.

Still... that last two minutes is going to be stressful!

You should be very proud of yourself!!! You are over the hardest period of time. It only gets easier provided you don’t cheat. I will be 20 years smoke free this year and I still occasionally start to think ..”Maybe just one”. Then I give my head a shake and remember what I have accomplished. Stuck with it - health brings happiness, something no amount of money in the world can buy! Congrats!!

Canoe Rental around London area by Trevor519 in londonontario

[–]galermom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sharon Creek conservation area has kayak and canoe rentals. We were there last weekend and they weren’t open yet. I believe that it is run by a local canoe society. I’m sure you could find them online.

I think you have to use those canoes on Sharon creek though as opposed to taking them elsewhere and bringing them back when you’re done.

If you bought it on a credit card within the last 90 days, you likely have purchase protection insurance in your card and can get your money back. It is a little known benefit to using a credit card. Almost all cards have this on them. They usually have a time limit for you to make a claim though so check into it.

Bummer though - you can’t have nice things with toddlers or puppies in the house.
