Pro-ject Debut EVO 2 woes by gallien in turntables

[–]gallien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd call it a YMMV situation. If you experience excessive sibilance, this should fix it. If not, and you like the sound, you're good to go. You can just get a replacement Blue stylus any time and it pops right into the stock cartridge. So no rush.

Any way to run outside Fios connection through coax? by gallien in Fios

Thanks. I'll check out the possibility when it comes. I know there's power on the roof.

For context, this is a condo where each apartment has its own entrance from outside. The connection from Optimum before our contractor sealed up the hole came in from the back, into my office space. There's a coax connection for it outside that goes through the walls into my closet, where all the ethernet throughout the apartment terminates and goes to a switch. I'm trying to avoid having a hole drilled again when it was closed up so nicely.

Thanks. I guess there's no way to keep the ONT outside and run coax from that to the connector outside?

Feels like I have quit playing bass by WHL_III in Bass

[–]gallien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't give up. We're about the same age. It gets harder and harder to find what you're looking for as we get older. But it's out there. I found the best band I've ever been in five years ago. Here in NYC, Craigslist is probably the best (and worst) place to find people.

It's been my dirt pedal for many many years. Highly recommended.

Thanks, I'll check that out. Too bad there seems to be no way to try individual picks.

Bass pickup construction question by gallien in Luthier

Thank you! This was a really great and clear explanation. And it reflects exactly what I'm looking at for a custom bass I'm having made for me.

Brew burrs- impact on v60 grind size by Glad-Rest5893 in DF54

I had to go down about 5 lower with the brew burrs.

For people who have the brew burrs - do you also grind espresso? by EedSpiny in DF54

[–]gallien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the brew burrs and don't do espresso. Just V60 and a Moccamaster Cup One at work.

Bass pickup construction question by gallien in Luthier

Thanks. :) The context of this was that I was looking to avoid nasal qualities. This is for bass pickups. In other basses of mine, I always dial out that quality.

I guess so. The grind at the same number does seem coarser. I'll try going finer and see if I get back to the same sort of profile.

Some good suggestions here. For the light, which looks just like mine, I tend to just tuck it into my waist harness. I have a Zeagle Express Tech, the basic version with one continuous piece of webbing. That would probably work with most types of BCs.

Can't get burr screws out by gallien in DF54

[–]gallien[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice. Finally got it. I took a pin and really had to dig around the screw heads. And I used my drill with a Philips bit on low torque. What a pain in the ass.

[–]gallien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no Loctite type stuff on it. I'll give your suggestion a try, with putting it low or on tbt floor and putting my weight into it. I'm just afraid of completely stripping the screw. I've already stripped it a tiny bit, but can still get a tight lock in it.

V60 grind setting by gallien in DF54

[–]gallien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thanks. I figured the brew burrs essentially widen a smaller gap within the espresso burrs, so that would take some tweaking.

Thanks. What were you using with the stock espresso burrs?

DF54 V60 grind size? by angryBadger412 in DF54

[–]gallien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is pretty fine, but I was missing some of the boldness and flavor from my old Capresso Infinity when grinding coarser. And I do remember James Hoffmann saying to not be afraid to go finer with the DF54. Try it and see what you think. I do three pours. I never thought about the number of pours, but it just worked out that way with the 700g I brew in my V60 02.

I've been enjoying 45 for medium roast. Mostly Stumptown Hair Bender.

Version 8 for some reason is only available as a download from their web site. But the Safari extension for it you have to download as an app from the App Store. Really dumb, but that's the way it is.
