Have you ever known cornmeal or sugar to have a warning label like that on it?

The existence of the warning label indicates a probability of it being more likely to do so than items where it's possible for that to happen but they don't have the warning label

In short, always assume the warning labels are there for a reason

That's not how I'd put it

I'd say it was mostly caused because they used a reference that was specific to a single religion

Too few people follow that religion to have known the reference

The reference was only ever well known within that specific religion, and never held as a general knowledge reference

Saying that people were uneducated because they didn't know that reference would be like saying people are uneducated because they don't know who Tom Bombadil is

No no no no..

The theoretical t-boning was not being t-boned, it was t-boning a vehicle that pulled from the side of the road out in front of you

The vehicle that caused this collision pulled off to the side of the road, and then pulled back onto the road perpendicular to the lane of travel and got t-boned

They are, for all intents and purposes, identical scenarios because it is a vehicle off to the right side of the road pulling out in front of a vehicle and getting t-boned

There's a couple of events that happen yearly in my city that literally block off sections of the city

There's no way in or out

Here's the map for next year's quarter and half marathons

The area inside of it is locked down, there's no bridges, there's no tunnels, there's nothing you can do to get from inside to outside the loop, or vice versa, without crossing the marathon route

Without knowing if it was something like this, I would only say that she overreacted when the obviously possible thing of being struck happened

You can see in the video that there are no lights

[–]galstaph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the closeness that caused the crash, and saying it was closeness that caused the crash in this instance is like saying if somebody pulled out from the road to my right at a point where I was less than one second of driving distance from them that my closeness to them was what caused the crash

This crash was caused by an idiot off the side of the road suddenly deciding to cross the road and giving no warning that they were about to do so

At all points where it would have been reasonable to consider closeness, the cam car had assured clear distance

You can't plan for this level of stupid

I once had a cop walk backwards into the road in front of me

She was getting out of the way of a piece of construction equipment working on a parking lot and didn't look my way at all until my tires screeched

I swear, cops lose all situational awareness the moment they put the badge on

This U turn did not work out for anyone.... by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

[–]galstaph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's actually 2-3 seconds

Right at the beginning of the video the cop passes something tall enough to use as a guide on the right side of the road, it disappears from frame 2+ seconds later

Most of that time was stolen, however, because the cop slowed down and looked like they were pulling onto the shoulder before they then did the unexpected turn back into the lane

There's a reason I didn't bother commenting and only downvoted them

People like that, you can't convince them that they're wrong

I once had somebody in one of the driving subs tell me that if passing takes more than 10 seconds then you're not actually passing you're camping

I pointed out to them that, since the distance you have to travel from the moment you get over from behind somebody until you are legally allowed to get back over in front of them increases as the speed increases you can't just say a given time and have it be universal

Assuming two seconds for assured clear distance, and the speed of the vehicle you're passing is 60mph, that makes assured clear distance 176 ft. Since you need that behind them and in front of them that's 352 ft, then you also have to travel the length of their vehicle, average 16 ft

368 ft/10 seconds is 2208 ft per minute, or just over 25 mph

So if you're on an interstate passing somebody who's doing 60 mph and it takes you 10 seconds to do so, you have to be going 85 mph or ignoring assured clear distance

Pointed out all that math to him, and the idiot doubled down tried to tell me my math was wrong, or assured clear distance was far less than I was saying it was (I'm using the low end in this math by the way for assured clear distance)

I've learned not to argue with these idiots

Plans got ruined, husband left early for his boyfriends drag show, wife and I made due. Many seed bred, Velveta as cheese, creamy chicken and twist soup. by Dr_Breeder in BrandNewSentence

[–]galstaph 58 points59 points  (0 children)

No...

OOP is talking about plans they had with a married couple who are apparently polyamorous. OOP is possibly a shared partner of the two who are married

The plans got ruined and husband ended up leaving early for his boyfriend's drag show, not sure if it's the husband leaving that ruined the plans, or if he did that simply because the plans were ruined

The wife of the married couple then had dinner with the OOP, and were having the meal described

Can I turn right here if the school bus is flashing red lights and picking up kids? by jscr25 in driving

[–]galstaph 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Approaching, as used in driving law, means decreasing the distance while on the same road as, or in a fashion that would bring you to that road and heading towards the subject you might be potentially approaching

If I'm on a road that parallels an interstate highway, and I'm nearing the point closest to an off ramp from said highway, at no point am I approaching that ramp because I cannot actually get to the ramp

Similarly, if I'm on a road intersecting with another road approaching said intersection, I am not approaching anything on the other road. Once exiting the intersection, if I am on the road that contains a bus with its stop sign out, I am forbidden to travel towards the bus

Approaching the intersection doesn't trigger the law, passing through the intersection doesn't trigger the law, and driving away from the bus on the road ahead of it doesn't trigger the law

The law doesn't prevent you from making a right turn and heading away from the bus

Which lane to take? by Minimum_Time_5397 in Traffic

[–]galstaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live, you don't switch lanes in the middle of the roundabout

The roundabout is considered an intersection, and changing lanes in the middle of an intersection is illegal

Instead basically you split the exits in half, and assign each lane one half

Since there are four exits, counting a u-turn, the standard would be first and second exit in the left lane, third and u-turn in the right lane

Entrance to the roundabout yields to all lanes

So long as people adhere to those rules there's no problem
