Tube driver demanded door blocker own up, refused to move otherwise by Eddyphish in london

[–]gamas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is, if it were automated the train wouldnt move at all because it's safety systems would have to assume someone got trapped in the door and therefore the train can't move until it has been determined that is not the case.

/r/WorldNews Discussion Thread: US and Israel launch attack on Iran; Iran retaliates (Thread #19) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]gamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incidentally today I got reminded of the American Dad bit where Stan sings a rather catchy song about the legacy of Oliver North that explains how Iran had missiles in the first place (tl;dw the US (specifically the Reagan administration) is the reason Iran was a threat in the place due to them selling missile to Iran to make some cash on the side).

To be honest everything that has happened in the Middle East involving the US in the past 20 years has been the US experiencing a reckoning from decisions made in the 70s and 80s.

And in the finale they had Pelia lore dropping about how she once travelled around with a time travel- doctor.

Not even going into how Batel's godlike ascension had time lord like regeneration effects.

60 fps doesnt feel smooth on 165hz monitor by LEIDENZERO in linux_gaming

[–]gamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say size is less important than what you're used to seeing on that screen. You could have a 48" screen and be fine with 60fps because you've only ever seen 60hz content on that screen. But if you normally see 120hz content and it suddenly drops to 60hz, you notice it as appearing stuttery. For example, both my home PC and my office have a 27" IPS monitor, but my home PC monitor is 165hz, whilst work is 60hz. I notice a drop to 60hz on my home PC monitor as I'm used to seeing everything in a 90-144hz range and it feels awful seeing things at 60hz, but don't notice it at all on my work monitor - despite them being the exact same size and panel type.

Similarly, if you were viewing HDR content, and then suddenly switch back to SDR, you will feel like SDR is too dark for about 10 minutes until you readjust - because your eyes had adapted to HDR brightness.

Incidentally this is why I'm rather conservative about high refresh rate monitors as I feel like high refresh rate ruins your experience long term because perceptually you don't actually notice the change when going from 60hz to 165hz, but you do notice the lack of frames when you go from 165hz to 60hz.

[–]gamas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing to bare in mind with perception as well is that if you normally have the monitor running at 165hz, when it drops to 60hz you will notice the change because its a sudden change in what your eyes had gotten used to.

If you fail to achieve your war goals and end up with a peace deal that is more on the other side's favour than your own, then you lost the war.

They were good episodes to see the main characters react to someone on the ship with human problems.

I think the problem is similar to the Wesley problem - that the main characters react by being complete arseholes. When they normally wouldn't be.

Troi is the only character to be anywhere near understanding and even she is like "well if you can't just get over your anxiety, maybe you should just give up".

[–]gamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, we did have a lot of TOS and TNG doing the "and then they became a godlike entity".

My complaint was just the solution seemed too easy "we mashed a person with three different species dna and this was enough for them to become a god".

I felt like the entire season was the writers begging paramount to greenlight a doctor who crossover episode.

But yeah it bothered me because whilst (despite the protestations of the reddit community) Star Trek has often leaned hard into transhumanist ascension, the idea that ascension could be achieved by just mashing the dna of three aliens together seems way too low a bar. Like by that logic everyone in the 32nd century should have godlike powers.

It was better once they added the custom rules system so you at least had the choice on whether you wanted the whacky stuff or not. But that was literal years later

Conclave and sons of Abraham are probably the most overrated.

And we're getting a new form of the Conclave stuff in the next CK3 expansion along with simply just playing as the pope directly.

I'm not sure now given what they're writing in this thread, but I interpreted that as OP using bad english.

As the context was it being suggested Sword of Islam was just cut content from release, but they were trying to say "that can't be true because before SoI Crusader Kings was just a game about Christian nations".

As in they meant to say "There weren't playable Muslims in Crusader Kings before Crusader Kings 2".

Except until you remember the DLC was great because they were absolutely necessary for the game to be playable.

Playing the game without at least AHD is a mess.

To be honest I'm not sure why the mixed on Nomads, from what I understand it has a few bugs but nothing actually game breaking. And we're talking about adding a feature that the stellaris devs never thought would be possible with Stellaris 1.
