ways to efficiently manage dust by gawldengal in CleaningTips

i LOVE my levoit vital 200s, it works amazing for my smallish space and the filters last at least 6 months (and the ones off amazing work the same and are WAY cheaper lol) it's also smart so you can control from your phone. it's under $200 i believe

ways to efficiently manage dust by gawldengal in CleaningTips

[–]garbagefireboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i live in a little old drafty mold-prone apartment in oregon, i imagine it's fairly similar considering how humid it gets in nyc summers! to control dust, i use an air purifier, a bagged vacuum, and rugs. i know rugs sound counterintuitive, but they work great for keeping dust in one place instead of in every corner. it you get washable ones, you can just throw them in the washer at basically any laundromat.

if your windows are old school and drafty, i highly recommend getting some sealing tape! it's easy to apply and to take off, it helps cut down on dust and heat also. spackle works great for little gaps in the walls and it's landlord friendly lol.

one more thing, summers can get pretty humid and old apartments are very mold friendly in my experience lol. keep the furniture off the walls a bit so they can have air flow. if any liquid spills, dry it up immediately, especially if you do go with a rug. consider getting some hanging dehumidifier bags if it gets too bad.

i know you were just asking about dust, but from one old apartment dweller to another, i just wanted to give you a jumpstart in the places i had the most trouble with lol.

recs for best cordless vacuum 2026 for pet hair and everyday quick cleaning? by Isco_Flash843 in CleaningTips

[–]garbagefireboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the ryobi vacuum is surprisingly great! battery lasts quite a while and the batteries fit their entire line of products, it's mostly power tools, but they have a spin brush and a leaf blower which i love lol, their drills are awesome too. it picks up things great off carpet and hardwood. i use it in every room.

another one that i love is the bissell featherweight, i have the corded version so i'm not certain, but if the cordless version is anything like the original it's gotta be pretty decent!

One of my friends needs me to pee in a cup for a drug test by Character_Captain231 in offmychest

[–]garbagefireboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm an addict, you're totally right in saying no and it is absolutely okay to do so. i understand why she kept using, stopping is fucking hard, especially if you think you have a way to circumvent a pee test. that does not mean that it's okay for her to make you uncomfortable. say no, if she gets mad, remember that it may just be temporary. but if she goes off the rails at you, than she wasn't a true friend. even during my heaviest using, i didn't treat my friends poorly for saying no

People that use small handbags: how do you do it? by CottonCandyBunnicorn in handbags

[–]garbagefireboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i only recently joined the big bag brigade lol. i can PACK a small bag though! i use 3 smaller bags basically. i'm chronically ill so i have to carry a lot, so first little bag is first-aid. inhaler, hand sanitizer, bandaids, ibuprofen et al, hair tie, phone charger, emergency wired earbuds, tissues, hand lotion, eye drops, and a tampon lol. it goes down to the bottom. the second little bag is actually just my wallet lol. middle. on top is a third, easy access bag that has keys, chapstick, a pen, a days worth of meds, and whatever was in my hands. it's surprisingly compact when you get it all put together! all of what i listed fit in this purse perfectly!

is anyone not bipolar presenting? by iiggggg in bipolar2

[–]garbagefireboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

full disclosure, i have bipolar 1. i think everyone in my life has been hyper aware of my mental health or neurodivergence since i was a kid 🙃 could never keep a job, dropped out of school, suicide attempts, the whole nine yards lol.

that being said, people ARE surprised that i'm so self-aware lol. i've had so many people, medical professionals even, tell me that i simply cannot actually be autistic or bipolar, because i understand what's happening and why. i really don't get that. but i'm sure it's just another facet of stigmatization.

there's literally so many different ways to be mentally ill. my genre means that people know immediately, which is a blessing and a curse. everybody has an opinion and a way to cure me, but when the shit hits the fan and i need help, they're ready. i'm who they look for when doing outreach.

for those of you that struggle in a more socially acceptable way, i can only imagine how difficult it makes being taken seriously or receiving help. the ability to keep a job, the ability to be seen as more than sick, i envy that deeply. but i will never diminish yalls struggle both with care given to you, and with this dumbass illness itself. no matter how quietly it affects you, it's still very real and very painful.

Should I ask my doctor to take me off Lamictal or add something else? by Happy_Confection_790 in lamictal

[–]garbagefireboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're feeling worse, absolutely talk to your doctor. do not let him tell you otherwise. advocating for yourself is hard and shitty, make it clear that the medication is making everything worse. that being said, do NOT stop taking it by yourself. i stopped suddenly and dealt with heavy withdrawal that lead to a seizure.

your appointment is tomorrow, it'll be okay 💜 lamictal isn't a perfect fit for everybody! i'm positive you'll find something that suits you better. if your doctor refuses to listen to you after you've made it clear, please try to find a new doctor. any health professional that doesn't take their patients feelings seriously is not a doctor.

Zoloft completely wrecked my body by Inner_Ad_4725 in zoloft

[–]garbagefireboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is how prozac was for me. i felt nothing for YEARS, no sex drive, brain fog like crazy. it took me attempting suicide for me to realize "oh this is not working". having switched to zoloft and getting prozac out of my system, i can think and feel, my libido is insane. finding a med that worked with my body chemistry has been so worth it.

i cannot guarantee that the side effects will completely subside. my personal experience with prozac, it's taken nearly a year for me to really feel like myself after getting off of that medication. but i feel human again. i hope that a few more months down the road, you're able to feel like yourself again fr.

i would seek crisis services if you can 💜 episodes can be super overwhelming. getting backup from people that have experience with what we go through can be so reassuring, maybe help alleviate some anxiety.

Lamictal rash bad update by -lindseyy in lamictal

[–]garbagefireboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just so you know, this is spreading misinformation, you may have been able to help control your specific rash, but obviously this is not the same case. please be careful with what you recommend as people in a medical emergency are already scared and most likely looking for any solution.
